Disney Star Wars Trilogy actor John Boyega reacts to the news that The Acolyte has been cancelled by commenting on Amandla Stenberg’s Instagram account.
Disney, last week through the trades, announced The Acolyte wouldn’t be getting a Season 2 and has been canceled.
An official reason by Lucasfilm hasn’t been given but it’s thought to be due to the high cost of the series and the lower viewership. The Acolyte scored the worst ratings for a Star Wars show on Disney+.
Finn sidelined
John Boyega has his own experience with Star Wars cancellation as an argument could be made that his character, Finn, had been cancelled. It seems as if when Finn debuted in The Force Awakens that he would go on to become a Jedi and possibly even get involved in a relationship with Daisy Ridley’s Rey. However, it seems Boyega’s Finn was severely sidelined in the sequels.
Boyega previously insinuated race was to blame and at one point even seemed to say he was done with Star Wars, but last year the actor said he is open for a return. It could be possible John Boyega and Finn return in the upcoming Daisy Ridley Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
What did John Boyega say about The Acolyte cancellation?
Regarding John Boyega reacting to The Acolyte cancellation, he posted a comment on Amanda Stenberg’s Instagram of a GIF of Han Solo giving the “scoundrel’s salute.”
It’s not a way of saying “adios” but a way of saying “welcome to the club.”
Not only does Han Solo use the “scoundrel salute” but Luke Skywalker used it in Return of the Jedi. Woody Harrelson’s Becket uses it in Solo: A Star Wars Story, as as does L3-37. Lando Calrissian also uses it. See below (via Reddit).
Amandla Stenberg has also reacted to the news of The Acolyte cancellation and her co-stars, Manny Jacinto, and Lee Jung-jae have acknowledged the cancellation.
