Zack Snyder Wants DC Return With Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Exclusive)

Zack Snyder Wants DC Return With Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Exclusive)

I’m currently at the NYCC and following the huge disappointment of James Gunn’s Peacemaker Season 2 and finale, I reached out to my insiders about the state of the DCU at Warner Bros.

More to come but I’m told that Zack Snyder wants to return to DC at some point at do an adaptation of the Batman comic, The Dark Knight Returns, by the legendary Frank Miller and Klaus Janson.

Regarding any chance Snyder will return to his DCEU Justice League movies, I’m told that ship has sailed and that everybody has moved on.

I’m told if Snyder ever comes back to DC that he only wants to do The Dark Knight Returns.

While it’s reported Netflix might be eyeing the purchase of WBD, and that since Snyder is currently at Netflix, it seems there could be the possibility of a reborn DCEU, recent reports shed doubt on Netflix buying WBD.

I’m also told the DCU projects have been stalling because of James Gunn’s interference, and that Gunn is out when WBD sells.

Batman The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 Review

Zack Snyder wants to end superhero career with The Dark Knight Returns

Back in December of 2023, Zack did say he would end his superhero career with The Dark Knight Returns,  “a true representation of the graphic novel.”

When WBD is sold, I’m told it could happen.

“If you look at Watchmen where Alan [Moore] took like basically iconographic characters that you could superimpose over a lot of, you know if Night Owl is Batman and Doctor Manhattan has Superman-ish qualities, you can make all these different sorts of archetypical hero analysis over the top of those heroes,” Snyder said at he time.

Snyder continued, “The thing asbout Dark Knight Returns is it is literally Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman and the deconstruction is so obvious and so palpable. For me, it was like comics grew up in a single moment. When I read that book I was completely laid bare, everything I thought about superheroes. For me, it’s the greatest comic book ever written. If I could do that then I will have done Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns and I would be pretty much done with superheroes.”
