With the X-Men reboot coming after Avengers: Secret Wars as part of Kevin Feige’s new age of mutants, rumors offer Black actors will be in prominent roles.
Feige actually got his start under X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner at Fox.
It’s claimed that Feige wants to differentiate his X-Men from the previous versions, which includes Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, and Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. Stewart and McKellen are confirmed to be returning in Avengers: Doomsday.
What are the X-Men rumors?
The X-Men rumors come via Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic.
While going over the possible actors playing the Spider-Man 4 villains, Sneider mentions the old rumor that Sadie Sink was playing Jean Grey, which doesn’t look to be true.
Jean Grey rumors
Sneider says he has heard actress Daisy Edgar-Jones is up to play Jean Grey in the X-Men reboot. She’s known for Twisters, War of the Worlds, and Under the Banner of Heaven. Sneider says Disney thinks she is going to be a huge star and has their eye on her. Recently also saw the news that Daisy Edgar-Jones has been cast in the new Netflix movie, Here Comes the Flood. Well, she joins Robert Pattinson — and Denzel Washington.
Magneto rumors
Sneider goes over previous rumors that Denzel Washington may be playing Magneto in Feige’s X-Men reboot. Denzel has also confirmed he has a role in Black Panther 3. Interestingly, director Ryan Coogler recently shared that he (himself) is a big fan of the X-Men.
So Sneider says he continues to hear that Kevin Feige wants Black actors for the roles of not only Magneto, but Professor X as well.
Professor Xavier rumors
With Denzel Washington possibly playing Magneto, Sneider says it would be interesting if they had a “Black counterpart as Charles” and says, “Coleman Domingo is someone who I think is high on that list.”
Coleman Domingo actually voices Harry Osborn in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man animated series, which originally was going to be set in the MCU. He’s also known for voicing Batman in the Batman Unburied podcast. He also starred in Fear The Walking Dead, Lincoln and more.
Cyclops rumors
Sneider also goes over Cyclops rumors and thinks Harris Dickinson will be too busy with Beatles to play Cyclops.
Patrick Schwarzenegger (White Lotus, The Boys: Gen V) is also a name previously rumored for Cyclops (note: that image going around looks to be from a different movie set, not the set of Avengers: Doomsday).
X-Men MCU details
Feige’s X-Men has no release date. Recently saw it reported that Thunderbolts director Jake Schreier is being eyed to direct who is also said to be a big X-Men fan.
Michael Lesslie is penning the screenplay, who recently wrote The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes starring Rachel Zegler.
The MCU also looks to be getting the reboot treatment following Secret Wars.
