Ryan Coogler’s reboot of The X-Files just got even more personal. Speaking with Variety, the filmmaker revealed the reason he signed on to reimagine the iconic sci-fi series: his mother.
“Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom,” Coogler said at the Cinespia “Sinners” screening at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. “My mom means the world to me — she’s actually here tonight — so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans.”
Coogler also noted that his mother has even read some of the scripts he’s written for the project.
“She’s fired up,” he added.

Casting Rumors: Danielle Deadwyler, Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny?
When asked about the rumor that Till and The Harder They Fall actress Danielle Deadwyler may be leading the reboot, Coogler laughed and replied, “I can neither confirm or deny.”
The same goes for potential appearances by X-Files veterans Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, though Coogler recently told Last Podcast on the Left that he has spoken with Anderson.
“She’s incredible. Fingers crossed there,” he said at the time, also promising “really f—ing scary” episodes that aim to satisfy longtime fans and maybe bring in new ones.
