With the recent debut of the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens (watch below) came with it a bit of controversy surrounding the look of the new lightsaber.
Some fans complained online that the crossguards might hurt the wielder as they appear to be energy shooting out from side-to-side.
Another theory is that whomever built the lightsaber didn’t know what he/she was doing, which is why the crossguards were built to possibly funnel away excess energy.
Well, just maybe the person that did build the new lightsaber was smarter than everyone else.

They test the crossguard out to see if it would indeed hurt the wielder or it it would be an effective weapon against an opponent.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has a December 18, 2015 release directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
