Christopher Nolan’s New Movie Rumored To Be Horror, Vampire Rumor Likely Fake

Update: Nolan’s secret Matt Damon/Tom Holland project turned out not to be a vampire film at all — it’s The Odyssey, his adaptation of Homer’s epic, opening July 17, 2026. See our full Odyssey cast list and complete Odyssey movie guide for everything confirmed.

Rumors are swirling that Christopher Nolan’s new movie starring Matt Damon and Tom Holland is a vampire flick, but that actually might not be true, but what may be true is it could be a horror film.

Is Nolan Really Making A Vampire Movie?

Gizmodo reported on a rumor they heard, that the movie is a vampire film set in the 1920s. However, according to various reports, that’s a rumor going around Hollywood that numerous insiders have heard, and it’s thought to be fake.

Worth a mention is that Ryan Coogler is doing his own period piece vampire movie starring Michael B. Jordan with Sinners. So Nolan is going to do something similar? It’s possible but seems doubtful.

Hollywood Already Has A Lot Of Vampire Projects

There also happens to be Nosferatu coming out at Christmas time, Wesley Snipes just returned as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, and AMC also has their Interview with the Vampire series.

Marvel also pulled its Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali off the release schedule. The original plan – yep, you guessed it – was to have the flick be a period piece with Blade battling vampires in the 1920s or so.

I suppose since it’s “Christopher Nolan,” he can do what he wants, and if his vampire movie is good, people will just forget about the other vampire stuff. However, I am guessing, it seems the vampire rumor was put out there to throw people off the scent of what the film is really about.

Could Nolan Be Making A Horror Film Instead?

In their report about the Tom Holland casting, THR did say the movie is not set in the present day, so if it’s not about vampires, it could be a period piece horror film about something else.

Nolan is developing his new movie at Universal Pictures, where he did Oppenheimer. The film already has a release date, July 17, 2026, is confirmed for an IMAX release, and will film early in 2025.
