With the big news that Tom Holland will be starring in Christopher Nolan’s new movie also starring Matt Damon comes word that Holland will likely reunite with Robert Downey Jr. in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Monday saw the trades offer different reports about the Holland and Nolan news, but in THR‘s article, the site reports it’s a done deal.
Worth a mention is that Robert Downey Jr. just starred in Nolan’s Oppenheimer and won an Oscar. Holland just said he still talks to Robert Downey Jr. and kept the Doctor Doom info a secret. So it’s not a stretch to think the two discussed Nolan.
So what does that mean for Spider-Man 4?
As we recently went over, Holland made is sound as if they need to get Spider-Man 4 done pretty soon (guessing because of Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027).
However, according to THR, it sounds as if Tom Holland will also be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday which gets released in 2026, and Holland will also be doing Spider-Man 4, which doesn’t have a release date as of yet.
THR offers that Holland signing on for the new Nolan movie “may come with some ripple effects” as the Nolan movie will start to film in early 2025. Obviously that means Holland won’t be able to film Spider-Man 4 in early 2025.
THR adds that Holland “will spend next year juggling” the Nolan movie “as well as Spider-Man 4.”
Avengers: Doomsday films next year, too
Regarding Avengers: Doomsday, the film has a May 1, 2026 release date and will also film next year.
THR adds, Holland will also have “a likely stop for Avengers: Doomsday.” That sorta sounds like Holland might just have a small role and not a large role, but what it does is reunite Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland following Tony’s death in Avengers: Endgame. Tony played a father figure to Peter, so obviously Peter seeing “Tony” again is a huge deal. However, what happens when Peter realizes it’s not Tony but Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom from another universe and a villain to boot? Woah. We can guess the story will conclude in Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
Spider-Man 4 delayed?
THR also makes it sound as Spider-Man 4 has been delayed and that the delay will enable Zendaya to star in Spider-Man 4. There are currently rumors that Spider-Man 4 will feature a new female lead.
THR says: “Spider-Man 4 was delayed enough that Holland’s co-star Zendaya will now be shooting Dune 3 in early 2026 rather than next year.”
So that sounds like Spider-Man 4 will film later in 2025(?), as Zendaya will film Dune 3 in 2026.
Spider-Man 4 before Avengers: Secret Wars?
Avengers: Secret Wars has a May 7, 2027 release date. Again, recently, Tom Holland seemed to hint they needed Spider-Man 4 done before that.
”One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine, and that machine has got to keep running. You need to make sure that you can fit into that timeline at the right time to benefit the bigger picture,” Holland said while appearing on the Rich Roll podcast. “So that’s one of the challenges we’re facing, and the time in which we need to get that done is a tall order but definitely achievable with the fantastic people we have working on it now.”
