Venom Game Reportedly Canceled Over Tony Todd’s Death, But New Claim Raises Questions

Venom Game Reportedly Canceled Over Tony Todd’s Death, But New Claim Raises Questions

A Venom video game from Insomniac Games is back in the rumor mill, with Miles Morales actor Nadji Jeter saying the project was canceled following the death of Tony Todd.

However, another claim is already casting doubt on the story.

Jeter appeared on the Love It Film podcast, where he said Insomniac had been working on a standalone Venom game tied to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

He said the game would have built off the Venom gameplay sequence from Spider-Man 2, where players briefly control the symbiote inside Oscorp.

Nadji Jeter Says Venom Game Was Canceled

According to Jeter’s comments, the actor said Insomniac was developing a Venom game but that the project isn’t happening after Tony Todd died in 2024.

Todd voiced Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and became one of the standout parts of the game for fans.

Jeter said, “We were going to have a Venom game, yeah, we were going to drop a Venom Game and Venom DLC, but we lost Tony Todd.”

Todd died on November 6, 2024, at the age of 69.

Jeter continued, “They showed me how it was going to start. They showed me how everything was going to be. It was gonna be a Venom video game. Like just straight Venom. Y’all played the Venom playthrough. It was just gonna be a Venom video game.

“They were going to make a Venom video game, but then, you know, we lost my uncle Tony Todd. We lost my uncle Tony Todd and I love him to death, I and still wish he was here. I still cry about him,” explained Jeter.

Reported Game Dev Pushes Back

That said, the cancellation claim is not being accepted at face value.

A post on ResetEra, later shared on Reddit, cites a reported game developer who pushed back on the timing.

The user said: “Unless it was canceled in the past two or so weeks… this runs contradictory to what was being discussed at GDC. And Todd died way before GDC 2026.”

GDC 2026 took place March 9-13 in San Francisco, well over a year after Todd’s death.

So if the Venom game was still being discussed around GDC 2026, as the reported developer claims, that would conflict with the idea that the project was canceled directly because of Todd’s passing in 2024.

A recent report from last September also said the Venom game was in early development.

Venom Rumor Remains Unclear

The timeline raises questions. Jeter may have been told the project was no longer happening and connected that decision to Todd’s death, or plans may have changed after GDC. It is also possible the Venom game never moved far enough along to survive changes at Insomniac.

It should also be noted that Insomniac never officially announced a standalone Venom game. The project surfaced through the 2023 Insomniac ransomware leak, which reportedly included internal plans for a Venom spin-off.

The interest is obvious. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gave players one major Venom sequence, and fans wanted more, especially after Todd’s performance.

For now, Jeter says the game was canceled because of Todd’s death, while a reported developer says that does not line up with what was discussed at GDC 2026. Until Insomniac or Sony comments, treat the Venom cancellation talk as rumor.
