The Venom 3 opening box office happens to be tracking all over the place, in a wide range.
Estimates offer Venom 3 could open to a franchise low of a potential $70 million, or on the flip side, a franchise high of $100 million. The first Venom opened to $80 million, with the sequel to $90 million.
This could be another flick where fans wait to see what word-of-mouth has to say. As of late, it seems more and more people are hesitant to go straight to the theaters to watch something. It seems like movies need to rely on word-of-mouth and then hope to have good legs.
Even Deadpool & Wolverine was initially tracking on the low end of estimates, but once word got out how good the movie was, it exploded to a $211 million opening weekend and is presently at $1.3 billion worldwide. Worth a mention is the reviewers also gave Deadpool & Wolverine the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of the franchise, so again, what fans think seems to count more.
Sony also has been doing cool marketing for Deadpool & Wolverine. I also think letting it be known that Knull will be in the film, rumored to be played by Venom 2 director Andy Serkis, is making a big difference in the eyes of the fans. They’ve already teased more Knull is on the way. So what’s that mean for Tom Hardy’s future as Venom? Well, go watch Venom 3.
After the taste that Joker 2 left in my mouth, I’m looking forward to watching a fun comic book movie. Maybe it will be another big hit like Deadpool & Wolverine?
Venom: The Last Dance opens on October 25, 2024 directed by Kelly Marcel, written by Marvel and Tom Hardy, and stars Hardy, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Stephen Graham.
