Venom 3 will introduce Marvel fans to the god of the symbiotes, the villain Knull, who is popular in the comics.
It’s also thought the flick is the last for Tom Hardy, so does that mean Knull is a one-and-done throw away character?
In a new interview, Venom 3 director and co-writer Kelly Marcel confirms more Knull is on the way.
“We were always aware of Knull, but knew that we needed to lay the foundation of the Venom character, and his relationship with Eddie, before introducing him. This is just the beginning for Knull,” Marcel confirmed.
Marcel continues to tease the appearance of Knull and says more is on the way.
“We’re in spoiler territory now and we hope some of the fun of watching this movie is not knowing what will happen, but trust me, we know full well how important Knull is to the fans, so just as we laid a foundation for Venom, we hope we are doing the same for Knull,” she said. “The King in Black is way too powerful for ‘one and done.’”
Marcel also confirms that Knull isn’t the big bad of Venom 3 but that comes at a later time.
“This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story,” Marcel added. “Marvel’s greatest film villains are developed over time. Here, Knull is the threat lurking behind the danger that tests the absolute limits of Eddie and Venom’s partnership — but it’s their relationship that remains the heart of this story.”
If Tom Hardy is really done suiting up as Venom, the continued use of Knull is interesting as what does that say about Venom? Does the symbiote latch on to another character? Or does it simply mean the Tom Hardy Venom movies are over and that Hardy will continue on in another movie franchise?
Rumors actually offer Hardy may be teaming up with the Tom Holland Spider-Man in Spider-Man 4 to take on Knull. Who knows? Maybe a big surprise in December’s Kraven is another appearance from Knull?
Venom: The Last Dance opens on Oct. 25.
