Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Alien Monster May Connect To Doctor Strange

A few days ago saw new digital art released for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 by artist Andy Park.

The art features the Guardians battling it out with some sort of alien space creature.

James Gunn was asked about the creature during a Facebook Live event and offered details.

“What is the name of the alien monster in the promo art? That’s an Abilisk. A multi-dimensional being. The Guardians have been hired to fight him,” Gunn said.

Mention of the creature being multi-dimensional is rather interesting as Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson also mentioned dimensions noting that Doctor Strange was the start of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse and teased “other-dimensional psychotropic violence” for the film. It’s also been confirmed that Dormammu, another extra-dimensional being, will be in Doctor Strange.

Fans of the Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning Guardians of the Galaxy 2008 comic book series should also recollect that the Guardians battled extra-dimensional creatures from The Fault and the Cancerverse, which came to a head in Ream of Kings and the highly fan-favorite and critical hit The Thanos Imperative.

It would be pretty cool if Marvel’s Phase 3 films with Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War led to Marvel’s Phase 4 with The Avengers 4 battling some of those extra-dimensional beings — or even alternate versions of themselves.

Ant-Man even featured a different dimension of sorts with the Quantum Realm.

Avengers: Infinity War Saved Captain America In Civil War

While Captain America: Civil War may have seemed like more show than actual substance as there seemed to be no ramifcations, now two things are learned about the movie offering what went down in the movie actually mattered.

The film took a different road than the Civil War comics in that Captain America actually survives.

Now we find out why.

It’s because of Thanos.

Captain America: Civil War directors and writers spoke with HP about the ending to the film. They not only let it be known that Cap survived because of Avengers: Infinity War, but also that Steve Rogers no longer considers himself “Captain America” anymore; so we do see the end of the movie with Cap dropping the shield and the Avengers splitting actually makes its way throughout other Marvel movies.

Regarding dropping the Captain America mantle:

“I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity,” Joe Russo said. “[It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”

Why Captain America survived:

“There’s a big purple guy coming. He could be very helpful,” added writer Christopher Markus.

“The Avengers: Infinity War” has a May 4, 2018 release.

We’re Still Not Ruling Out Avengers X-Men Crossover

There’s been rumors stating that Marvel and Fox are planning an Avengers X-Men movie crossover, with one even stating it’s supposed to happen in 2020.

To add fuel to the fire, Kevin Feige booted Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter from being involved with the movies. Perlmutter was a potential roadblock to working with Fox as reportedly Perlmutter is feuding with Fox over the Marvel character film rights.

In addition, Marvel is working with Sony on Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Spidey recently debuted in the MCU during Civil War, leading to speculation an Avengers X-Men movie could happen.

While we can all dream if an Avengers X-Men crossover movie will ever take place, it may not be in the cards, at least according to Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo.

“As far as we know, right now there isn’t talk regarding the X-Men,” Russo said while promoting the Captain America: Civil War Blu-Ray, reports Screen Rant. “I don’t know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven’t heard of any… Sony and Marvel had a relationship through Kevin [Feige] and Amy [Pascal], and through us and Amy. That’s really how Spider-Man came about. It requires a certain alchemy and a very special situation for studios to share properties. There was not talk on Civil War about the X-Men.”

While Joe Russo offers potential bad news about an Avengers X-Men crossover, the good news is that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige actually has a good relationship with Fox and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

“I would love it. I would love it,” Donner said a couple of years ago in an interview. “I personally have close ties to Marvel because of Kevin Feige, because Kevin worked for me. But to take our characters and mingle them in the way that they were written, yeah, absolutely.”

Likewise, back in April while promoting Deadpool, Tim Miller and Simon Kinberg offered they would love an Avengers X-Men crossover.

“I would love to some day in part heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers,” Tim Miller said.

“Yeah, I think we all would,” Simon Kinberg added. “There’s so much crossover in the comics it would be neat to one day be able see those characters share a movie.”

“Kevin [Feige] is so awesome,” Miller continued. “Did you see my little pizza box in one of the scenes? ‘Feige’s Famous Pizza’ — that was my little.. trying to bring these worlds together.”

“Both of us are actually quite close with Kevin and have a profound amount of respect for what he does,” Kinberg offered. “And it would be fun to all team up one day, somehow, together, if that could work.”

“I think it’s a super smart move with Spider-Man. I mean, he’s great,” Miller said.

Deadpool also featured a Marvel Studios Hellicarrier at the end of the film (at least in concept art), so maybe we shouldn’t rule out an Avengers X-Men crossover just yet?

Marvel Comics Releasing Avengers #1 For November

Following Marvel Comics getting crushed by DC Comics in terms of comic book sales, per the norm, Marvel is relaunching brand new #1 titles for November, one of which is Avengers #1, and it comes with more than a half dozen covers.

We see the price on Avengers #1 is still rather high, coming in at five bucks, while DC has actually lowered all their prices back to $2.99.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months. DC has actually seen the amount of comics ordered increase, which is opposite of the typical comic book market. Normally, sales by issue six or so are a shadow of the first issue’s sales. Marvel likes to tip the scales with a gazillion variant covers as well as adding issues to various geek box subscriptions which artificially inflates sales for the issue; however, as noted, the number of actual readers who stick around is only a small percentage, hence the reason why Marvel keeps relaunching.

I’ve said it before, fans are getting tired of characters and stories being shoved down their throats by Marvel. DC is taking a fan-friendly approach to their publishing, which is working; eventually Marvel has to do the same if they want to compete — making us all winners in the long haul.

Vin Diesel Confirms Guardians of the Galaxy For Avengers: Infinity War

It looks as if the Guardians of the Galaxy make it out of the sequel unscathed as they will be appearing in The Avengers: Infinity War.

The Russo brothers previously confirmed Star-Lord Chris Pratt for Avengers: Infinity War and Rocket Raccoon has been said to be a part of the film; now Vin Diesel, the voice of Groot, confirms all of the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy for the third Avengers movie.

“…the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War, and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page you knew before everybody,” Vin Diesel posted on Facebook.

Likewise, a while back saw Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely confirm the Guardians of the Galaxy: “Let me put it this way. You know who owns that gauntlet, right? And you know who’s in another movie? His kids are in that movie. It’s a big universe” McFeely said, with Markus adding, “You do the math!”

We can speculate that something may take place at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 that possibly causes the Guardians to sync up with the Marvel Earth heros for Avengers: Infinity War.

James Gunn has been pretty adamant about no Avengers or Thanos for Guardians of the Galaxy 2; however, Gunn may just be trying to throw fans off.

Winter Soldier was recently confirmed for Avengers: Infinity War as well.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits May 5, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War lands May 4, 2018.

Tom Hiddleston Explains Why Loki Was Cut From Avengers 2

Originally, Tom Hiddleston was supposed to appear in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron; however, Marvel ended up cutting Loki from the film.

Now we find out why.

Tom Hiddleston reveals to Variety that it was because of test audiences.

“It was a part of a dream sequence. It was a part of Thor’s nightmare. Thor has a dream where he meets Loki and Heimdall,” Hiddleston explained. “It was a day long shoot for me, loved seeing Joss [Whedon] again and Chris [Hemsworth] and Idris [Elba]. As they were testing the film, the initial audiences were like ‘oh Loki is controlling Ultron!’, and Kevin Feige and all the guys at Marvel were like ‘um, no, he’s not’. So they just thought it was confusing. So they were like we have to get rid of it.”

Joss Whedon also said why the scene was cut was because it didn’t fit with how Thor was portrayed in Avengers 2 and more.

The good news is that Tom Hiddleston will be back as Loki for Thor: Ragnarok, which hits November 3, 2017.

Watch the video below for more from Tom Hiddleston.

Suicide Squad Beats Out Captain America: Civil War & The Avengers 2

How about that?

Suicide Squad, despite the poor reviews, has again beaten out Guardians of the Galaxy, and now also beats out Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War and The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

Following Suicide Squad‘s record breaking August and Monday screenings, now it’s learned Suicide Squad has broken the record for the Tuesday August box office.

Suicide Squad netted $14.27 million, which is actually up 9% from Monday. The number also passes Guardians of the Galaxy‘s first Tuesday and also beats Captain America: Civil War‘s $13.76 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron‘s $13.1 million and Batman v. Superman‘s $12.7 million Tuesday.

Suicide Squad is near $300 million worldwide:

U.S:        $161,087,183
Foreign: $133,300,000
Total:      $294,387,183

“Suicide Squad” is directed by David Ayer starring Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Scott Eastwood in an unknown role.

Synopsis:

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?

Sebastian Stan Confirmed For Avengers: Infinity War

It’s revealed that Sebastian Stan will be returning as Winter Soldier for Avengers: Infinity War.

In THR‘s report on getting cast in We Have Always Lived in the Castle, it’s mentioned Sebastian Stan will shoot Avengers: Infinity War early next year.

Last we saw of the Winter Soldier, he was back in stasis under the watchful eye of Black Panther as shown at the end of Captain America: Civil War. With the info about Sebastian Stan appearing in Avengers: Infinity War coming out, we can speculate that possibly Winter Solider may be freed in the upcoming Black Panther movie, or it’s possible Winter Soldier could simply be freed to help out the heroes in Avengers: Infinity War.

Sebastian Stan hasn’t yet been confirmed for Black Panther, which hits February 16, 2018, followed by Avengers: Infinity War‘s May 4, 2018 release.

No Marvel Marvel Movie & TV Crossover Because Of Marvel Creative Committee

Fans have been asking (begging?) for their favorite television personalities to appear in the Marvel movies.

While you may have heard the reason being that the Marvel TV and movies schedules don’t sync up, the real reason is because of the Marvel Creative Committee.

The Marvel Creative Committee consists of Marvel CEO billionaire Ike Perlmutter’s boy’s club of: Alan Fine, who came with Perlmutter to Marvel through Toy Biz; Marvel Comics writer Brian Michael Michael Bendis, Marvel Comics publisher Dan Buckley, and Joe Quesada, the former editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics and the current Chief Creative Officer of Marvel.

To add to that they are all good buddies with head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb.

Long story short, last year saw Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige part ways with both Perlmutter and the Marvel Creative Committee over interference in the movies and creative differences. Captain America and Avengers: Infinity War director Joe Russo stated the following back in May:

“We’ve been on that [Marvel] journey from Winter Soldier, and it may have been some story points from Civil War that caused the civil war within Marvel. I think that there were years when Kevin was absorbing the pain inflicted on the company. [Marvel Studios is] much healthier, happier” [and is paving the way for] “really compelling choices.”

Regarding the crossover between Marvel Studios and TV not happening, head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb recently appeared on Nerdist’s Comic Book Club podcast where he was asked about The Defenders appearing in the movies with mention there’s friction because of the Marvel Creative Committee. Via reddit:

When asked if The Defenders would be in the movies, he scoffed and went on and on about how Marvel Television is a 3 year old company and how they want to do their own thing, but specifically mentioned that they’ll see where the company is in 2019.

He then mentioned that Marvel Television projects are still all under the thumb of the Marvel Creative Committee, so that could also cause some friction between the possibility of television and movie crossovers.

Adding in my own two cents, if you have been a fan of this website or any of the Marvel COSMIC comic books, you know the Marvel Creative Committee aren’t fans of COSMIC-type stories. With the upcoming Marvel Studios movies looking like they’re heavy cosmic flicks (Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Captain Marvel, Avengers Infinity War, Avengers 4, Inhumans, rumored Richard Rider Nova movie), it’s no wonder Feige booted them from being involved (in addition to whatever trouble they caused).

It’s also apparent the Marvel Creative Committee and Marvel TV like to use their comic book creator-driven work as: Agents Of SHIELD is heavily influenced by the Bendis comics; Netflix is heavily influenced by Quesada’s favorites, and Jeph Loeb went so far as to cancel the 2007 Nova comic book and replace the character he now uses in his animated TV series. There’s also the fact that Bendis cancelled and took over the 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series when word of the movie getting green lit became known (and fired the writers on the Nova and GOTG comics that inspired the movie and new billion dollar Disney franchise).

It also recently became known that Kevin Feige is introducing the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse in Doctor Strange. Is Kevin Feige going to make Marvel TV a part of the multiverse and directly disconnect it from the movies, which would enable Feige to use the same characters, but with different actors?

Jeremy Renner Wanted Hawkeye Killed Off In The Avengers Movie

If you didn’t know, Jeremy Renner wasn’t a big fan of how Hawkeye was portrayed in The Avengers movie.

Renner first appeared as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in Thor, but when it came to Avengers, his character didn’t see too much development as he became a minion of Loki.

Now in a new interview, Jeremy Renner goes so far as to say he wished Hawkeye had been killed off in The Avengers and even faked heart attacks on set to give Marvel Studios the hint.

“I just had a heart attack in every scene — I’d just be walking with… Scarlett Johansson, and just like be, ‘Ugh!’” Renner said during a Q&A (via Yahoo). “And they said, ‘What are you doing man?’ [I said,] ‘I’m giving you an option, if you just want to kick me out of this movie. Just you know, at any given moment, if you wanna kill me off, daddy’s gonna be having a heart attack.’“

Renner explains he wasn’t happy with Hawkeye’s direction.

“I was just getting to know who Hawkeye was, and then zap, I go round like a zombie, I’m like Loki’s minion,” Renner offered. “So I’m a little frustrated, because I was so excited to figure out who Hawkeye was.”

The good news is that now with the release of The Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War, Renner no longer feels the same.

“I don’t really want him to die now,” Renner said. “I really got to explore him a lot, and I can’t wait to explore him more, and there’s some really cool ideas coming up. Really cool ideas.

Renner then joked about Hawkeye being killed off.

“Great deaths!” he joked. “Amazing ways to die.”

Thanos Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts Get Recalled Due To Burn Hazard

It’s learned 360,000 Thanos Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts are being recalled due to a fire hazard.

The Infinity Gauntlet Mitts were an exclusive part of the Loot Crate Power-themed geek box.

Thanos creator Jim Starin shared the news on his official Facebook page.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission lists the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts mitts as a hazard: “The oven mitts lack thermal protection, posing a burn hazard to consumers.” Adding: “The firm has received 241 reports of burn injuries, including reports of the glove melting and burning consumers’ skin.” It’s advised: “Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled oven mitts, destroy them and contact Loot Crate to receive a replacement product of equal or greater value.”

The Loot Crate website is offering free replacements for the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts.

Hello, Looters. Every month, we strive to bring you unique, interesting, and fun items based on your favorite pop culture franchises. However, more important than providing something cool is the personal safety of our subscribers. Recently, we received reports that some of the Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts found in May’s POWER-themed crate could not withstand certain levels of high temperature. An unexpected and unfortunate development for one of the most powerful items in the galaxy. Based on these reports, we believe it’s possible some of the oven mitts sent in your Loot Crates may pose a safety hazard and are issuing a voluntary recall on all Infinity Gauntlet Oven Mitts. We’re deeply sorry for the inconvenience but we’ll be offering a t-shirt and Simpsons key chain to make up for it upon your submission of certain information below. Please see below for instructions on what to do with the mitts and how to claim your replacement items. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to recover the Infinity Gems either.

Second Avenger Rumored For Spider-Man: Homecoming

A second member of The Avengers may be joining Spider-Man: Homecoming.

In addition to Robert Downey Jr., possibly Scarlett Johansson may be appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Black Widow.

The tidbit comes from a Twitter account that has been posting Spider-Man: Homecoming set photos out of Atlanta.

“Well, well… hi Scarlett. What’cha doing here?” the Atlanta Filming Twitter account posted.

The account also posted that Robert Downey Jr. had returned to the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming the day before, so it’s likely Tony Stark and Black Widow would be featured in the scene.

Scarlett Johannson did recently finish filming on Ghost in the Shell so she does have time to shoot Spider-Man: Homecoming, and if she is in the movie, more than likely it’s in a cameo role.

Below you can check out some Spider-Man: Homecoming set photos from the Twitter account.

Chris Evans has also stated he wants to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but as of now, the only Avenger confirmed is Robert Downey Jr.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” has a July 7, 2017 release directed by Jon Watts starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
