Avengers: Secret Wars Reboot Dumps Brie Larson, Tom Holland, More

It’s claimed that Kevin Feige is going to use Avengers: Secret Wars to reboot the MCU and has dumped plans to use Brie Larson, Tom Holland, and more in favor of the Young Avengers.

The reboot plans were said to involve Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange as the new leaders of the MCU.

However, it is now claimed Kevin Feige is instead going with the Young Avengers who in the comics are a group of teenage superheroes that have already been teased in the MCU.

Kevin Feige hints at MCU reboot

The author of the MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios book has stated that Kevin Feige hints at Avengers: Secret Wars rebooting the MCU (the film gets released May 7, 2027).

“We have a quote from Kevin Feige sort of implying that, like, Secret Wars will serve as a soft reboot in which they can prune everything,” Robinson said during an appearance on The Watch podcast. “That’s not to use a Loki-ism. [They’ll] prune everything that’s not working and just keep what is [working], or bring back people you thought were gone forever.”

The MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios book also happens to feature a passage at the end that hints a reboot is coming to the MCU.

“Feige had to learn different lessons from the comics: how superheroes periodically needed to be rebooted, how to stop variants and spinoffs from spiraling out of control, how an annual mega-crossover event could unify a disparate line of characters,” states the book.

The New MCU Trinity that almost was

Regarding the MCU reboot, the book goes over how Chadwick Boseman said he was the future of the MCU with Tom Holland as Spider-Man and Brie Larson as Captain Marvel while on the set of Avengers: Endgame.

“[Chadwick Boseman] told me the story about how on the set of Endgame, he and Brie Larson and Tom Holland sat around and talked about how they were the future of Marvel and how exciting that was for them,” said Robinson.

So what happened?

Chadwick Boseman unexpectedly passed away, the fans didn’t take to Brie Larson (she is said to have been disillusioned), and issues with Sony who owns the Spider-Man film rights.

“[Then] you look at the breakdown between the Sony-Marvel deal over Spider-Man,…you look at Chad Boseman passing away, and you look at Brie Larson either not being a great fit or just, you know, being damaged by toxic fandom…so many factors… came into play that sort of knocked their plan out under them,” explained Robinson.

Paul Rudd and Benedict Cumberbatch were involved

Robinson also said the reboot plans involved Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

“[Marvel] had a plan. They’re like we know we’re losing our varsity players, we know they’re leaving. So they’re seating in Paul Rudd [and] Benedict Cumberbatch. They put Chadwick Boseman in a really prominent important place. They put Brie Larson in,” said Robinson.

What do the Avengers: Secret Wars rumors say?

Per above, following what appears to be confirmation of an MCU reboot with Avengers: Secret Wars, the CanWeGetSomeToast Twitter account chimed in with further details, as apparently, the account may have first said Avengers: Secret Wars is going to reboot the MCU.

“Honestly, the reboot is just a way to recast all the actors who cost more than Marvel can afford,” states the account. “The more movies they make, the more they gotta pay the actors. It’s just not sustainable to pay their long-time stars so much money. It’s why RDJ got $10M for 8 mins in Homecoming.”

The account also says the original plan was to have Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther, Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, and Tom Holland Spider-Man as the new “trinity” of the MCU replacing Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Tony Stark as Iron Man.

“Marvel was intentionally setting up a new ‘Trinity’ to replace Cap, Thor, and Iron Man. Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther was definitely going to be a big part of Marvel’s future. RIP to a King,” tweeted CanWeGetSomeToast.

CanWeGetSomeToasts added, “Kevin Feige always knew that Chris Evans, RDJ, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner would all eventually leave as the MCU progressed.”

The account continued, “It wasn’t to replace the Trinity’s relationship, but more so the roles they inhabit. Black Panther replaces Cap as the head and leader of the Avengers. Captain Marvel replaces Thor as the insanely powerful space god. Spider-Man replaces Iron Man as the quippy tech boy.”

Doctor Strange was also involved.

“Doctor Strange originally would’ve been propped up in his own mystical corner of the MCU,” tweeted the scooper.

Avengers: Secret Wars is said to be the grand finale involving the Multiverse war, with plans said to involve all kinds of different Variants of Marvel characters and universes. Hugh Jackman is said to be appaering as Wolverine from Deadpoool 3 and lots more.

Young Avengers reboot rumors

So with Chadwick passing away, problems with Brie Larson, and Sony, CanWeGetSomeToast says the MCU reboot now involves the Young Avengers.

“Marvel was intentionally setting up this new ‘Trinity’ to replace Cap, Thor, and Iron Man. Obviously, things have now changed with Marvel setting up the Young Avengers,” tweeted the account.

The account continued, “The set up for Young Avengers will be better and make more sense after #TheMarvels,” said the account.

The account added, “It’s not like Marvel could anticipate Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing, the toxic backlash to Brie Larson, AND Sony playing hardball with the Spider-Man rights.”

A fan questioned how young will the characters be that make up the Young Avengers in the MCU?

“Young enough that the OG Avengers would still consider them as kids,” tweeted CanWeGetSomeToast.

What about the Hulk?

Rumors have offered that the Smart Hulk is out and Savage Hulk will be returning to the MCU and also that Captain America: Brave New World deals with multiple Hulks, as it is said Harrison Ford will play Red Hulk.

CanWeGetSomeToast says there will be more about Hulk on the way.

“Hulk: Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk is a bit of a different story. Kevin Feige is conscious of how the rights situation with Hulk always kept him as more of a supporting character rather than one of the mains. With everything Marvel has set up in She-Hulk and #CaptainAmericaBraveNewWorld, there’s definitely a plan in place for MORE Hulk in the MCU’s future,” states the tweet.
