Geoff Johns In As “Kevin Feige” Of DC Movies Following Batman Vs. Superman Fallout

With Zack Snyder 0 for 2, Warner Bros. is not waiting for the third strike to end the game.

THR reports Geoff Johns and executive vice president Jon Berg will co-run DC Films in an “attempt to course-correct Warners’ comic book movies,” which is a direct result of the failed reception and performance of Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman.

Along with the recent addition of Ben Affleck as producer on Justice League, both Johns and Berg have been named as producers on the Justice League movies as well.

The report says: “With Berg and Johns, Warner Bros. is attempting to unify the disparate elements of the DC movies with a seasoned film exec and a comics veteran that together can hopefully emulate the way Marvel Studios has produced its films under the vision of president Kevin Feige.”

The report makes no mention of the further involvement of Zack Snyder other than he had the opportunity to shape the DC movie universe to 2020, but it’s noted critics and fans “ripped” into Snyder. It’s further mentioned that Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is nearing a billion in its first two weeks, while Batman Vs. Superman didn’t come close to the number.

Jon Berg has already been involved with Batman Vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Justice League. Berg also has a good relationship with Ben Affleck as the two have worked together on Argo and Affleck’s upcoming Live By Night. Affleck and Johns also co-wrote the Batman solo movie, with Affleck assumed to be directing.

Johns, in addition to his comics gig, is also responsible for the stellar performance of DC TV, with Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. I’ll also say this, that more than likely the failure of the Green Lantern movie is not Johns’ fault (we know this is going to be brought up). DC TV executive producer/showrunner Greg Berlanti recently spoke about the failure of Green Lantern in which Berlanti offered up that he (Berlanti) didn’t have much to do with the finished product — Berlanti was fired from writing and directing. Johns was probably more or less an advisor on Green Lantern, offering his two cents when someone would listen (and they probably didn’t). Berlanti is now involved with the DC movies as well, as a Booster Gold film is in development that Berlanti wants to direct (more of Berlanti is always a good thing).

It’s also noted Johns is still sticking with the DC Comics division, so no worries there.

The report also mentions WB is smoothing out the third act of Suicide Squad as “WB wants to make sure audiences expectations are not only met but exceeded,” and that Geoff Johns is involved in post-production.

It’s reported the reason WB parted ways with Seth Grahame-Smith over directing the Ezra Miler The Flash movie is because they didn’t want a newcomer on board — they want a seasoned vet who can make his stamp on a movie with a $150 million budget.

My two cents on Zack Snyder is that WB gave him too much free rein. It was a mistake to kill both Zod and Superman (among other things), something of which Christopher Nolan argued against. I think Snyder made the mistake of thinking he could do whatever he wanted with these iconic characters — thinking that fans would like whatever he did just because they are said iconic characters. I think Snyder made the mistake of intentionally attempting to go in an opposite approach than Marvel, with Marvel’s route being to basically stick pretty close to the comics and a big desire to please the fans. Snyder at times did what he wanted to do and laughed about it. Not a good thing, which Batman Vs. Superman, and Man of Steel to a lesser extent, proves. I think Snyder is a good visual director and there is a place for him in the DCEU, it’s just that he needs someone (Johns, Affleck, Berg) to rein him in.

Captain America: Civil War Nearing A Billion; Crushes Batman Vs. Superman For Second Weekend

Captain America: Civil has the one thing Batman Vs. Superman doesn’t — and that’s staying power.

Though both movies had similar opening weekend numbers, now with its second weekend, Captain America: Civil War has begun to show why Marvel is on top.

Civil War netted $72,563,000 for its second weekend, a drop of around 59.5% from last weekend, while Batman Vs. Superman saw a drop of over 69% for its second weekend with $51,335,254.

Captain America: Civil War has also already passed Batman Vs. Superman in worldwide box office gross and is closing on the magic billion dollar number.

Captain America: Civil War has a $295,892,078 gross in the U.S. with a whopping $645,000,000 internationally for a current worldwide total of $940,892,078.

Batman Vs. Superman has finished with $328,214,243 in the U.S. and $540,600,000 for foreign receipts for a total a total of $868,814,243 worldwide.

The numbers for Captain America: Civil War have also helped the Marvel Cinematic Universe pass $10 billion worldwide for all their movies.

Disney also saw its Jungle Book take the #2 spot this weekend.

Batman Vs. Superman Blamed For Captain America: Civil War Lower Box Office

So why didn’t Captain America: Civil War open to $200 million at the box office?

Blame Batman Vs. Superman?!

According to John Campea, who is known around the movie blogosphere, the negative response to Batman Vs. Superman affected Captain America: Civil War‘s box office.

Campea argues most of the general audience doesn’t know the difference between a DC and a Marvel film, and that since they didn’t like Batman Vs. Superman, the audience figured they wouldn’t like Captain America: Civil War as well, so some didn’t bother to go out and see it.

While Batman vs. Superman might seem like a good scapegoat, could the lower box office draw for Captain America: Civil War have anything to do with the fact that Avengers: Age Of Ultron wasn’t as well received as either The Avengers or Captain America: Winter Soldier? Perhaps some of the audience figured since Avengers 2 wasn’t that good, that Civil War wouldn’t be as good as well?

Or could it have been as simple as Civil War not being titled Avengers 3? General audiences might not have realized Civil War was essentially a third Avengers film and chalked it up to another Captain America movie, which obviously sees less of a draw than Avengers.

Or we could even argue that Captain America: Civil War simply wasn’t that good of a movie. Word-of-mouth may have caused the lower Captain America: Civil War box office draw as perhaps not enough buzz was created as Marvel played it too safe with the movie by not killing any characters (like the comics) or really anything important happening at all. Is Captain America: Civil War a “must see” movie? Looking at the big picture, it doesn’t seem so.

We all know Cap and Iron Man will make up and reteam for Avengers: Infinity War, right? So aside from the cool special effects seeing the Avengers battling each other, what was so good about the storyline? They killed off Crossbones right away (lame). Daniel Bruhl’s villain was rather bland until he teased more at the end (at least in my opinion), and Tony Stark seemed out of character. In addition, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, Black Panther and Hawkeye were shoehorned in to the movie (good or bad), which felt oddly enough pretty similar to Batman Vs. Superman‘s Justice League characters.

I could also argue Marvel and Disney – once again – revealed way too much footage online, which may have caused Captain America: Civil War to come off as rather underwhelming, which, in my opinion, is what happened with Avengers 2.

Another question to consider: Is it possible Marvel made a mistake by greenlighting Captain America: Civil War as a direct result of Warner Bros. announcing Batman Vs. Superman? Since when does Marvel play catch-up?

Perhaps the blame is not with the direct competition, but right in the mirror on this one?

Captain America: Civil War Passes $700 Million At Box Office

Captain America: Civil War has passed $700 million at the box office, which has also led to Disney topping $1 billion in sales at the U.S. box office in only 128 days, the fastest ever.

Currently, Captain America: Civil War has a $705.231 worldwide gross, with $192.431 million coming from the U.S. and $512.8 from international receipts.

For those keeping track regarding comparisons to Batman Vs. Superman, BVS bested Captain America: Civil War on their first Monday screenings: Batman Vs. Superman made $15.040 million to Civil War‘s $13.291 million, though BVS did have the Easter Monday holiday.

In its first four days, Captain America: Civil War has brought in $192,431,018 domestically, while Batman Vs. Superman saw $181,047,843 million, a 6% difference.

Captain America: Civil War also sits at 90% with critics at Rotten Tomatoes and 92% with fans.

Regarding Disney topping a billion, in addition to Civil War, the Zootopia movie and Jon Farvreau’s Jungle Book also added to the mix. The previous fastest studio to a billion at the box office was last year with Universal who did it in 165 days, which Disney has blown away this year.

Captain America: Civil War Scores Fifth Highest Opening At Box Office

Estimates are pegging Captain America: Civil War with the fifth highest opening off all time at the domestic box office.

While Captain America: Civil War didn’t hit the $200 million mark, it did bring in $181.8 million for its opening weekend, which is a tad bit lower than some of the estimates of $188 million, but obviously nothing to complain about.

Captain America: Civil War also scored a huge international box office gross with $496 million.

To date, Captain America: Civil War has already amassed $678,391,000 million worldwide.

For those keeping track of the Batman Vs. Superman box office comparisons (opened $166 million), Batman Vs. Superman beat Captain America: Civil War in its Thursday and Friday screenings, but Civil War is estimated to come out on top for Saturday and Sunday.

And if you are wondering, the top four grossing movies for opening weekends goes to:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens  ($247.996m)
Jurassic World  ($208.806m)
The Avengers  ($207.438m)
The Avengers 2  ($191.271m)

“Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Batman Vs. Superman Bat Crypt Creature Concept Art & Figure Revealed

Check out concept art of the “Bat Creature” from the Wayne Family Crypt scene in Batman Vs. Superman as well as the DC Comics Multiverse action figure.

The text on the concept art reads:

The nearby family crypt containing the remains of his parents, Thomas and Martha, is also in a similar state of neglect. It is a reminder of the night they were murdered, when the three of them went into the city to take in a movie. The loss of his parents at such an early age was the impetus for his crime-fighting career, but that event still has the power to invade his sleep with nightmarish visions, all these years later.

Looks a bit like Man-Bat, too.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Ben Affleck Named Executive Producer On Justice League Movie

More than likely as a result of the lackluster performace and reviews for Batman Vs. Superman, Ben Affleck has now come on board the Justice League movie as executive producer.

Deadline reports Ben Affleck “will work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be.”

The article also notes: “Affleck is doing this to be supportive of Snyder, with whom he worked well on Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” and also that: “Warner Bros is still figuring out its stylistic superhero mojo, and Affleck will help.”

Affleck is also co-writing, directing and starring in the upcoming standalone Batman movie.

Batman Vs. Superman has grossed $864 million, which is shy of the $900 million needed for the movie to take a profit and well shy of the magic billion dollar number WB was hoping for.

There have been a lot of rumors and controversy as of late surrounding Zack Snyder and Batman Vs. Superman ranging from comic book professionals telling Snyder FU, to The Flash losing its director, to the panic button being hit.

“Justice League” has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe in an unknown role.

Captain America: Civil War Trails Batman Vs. Superman For Thursday Advance Screenings

Round 1 goes to Batman Vs. Superman.

Captain America: Civil War opened last night with advanced screenings and brought in $25 million domestically, which is less than the $27.7 million Batman Vs. Superman did for its own Thursday night screening and less than last year’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which did $27.6 million.

Civil War is still expected to have a hefty opening weekend, close to or even surpassing $200 million, with some estimates stating $188 million.

My thoughts:

I saw the movie last night and honestly felt it was “okay.” It didn’t blow me away, though the airport scene was pretty solid. Similar to Batman Vs. Superman, I felt the story was a bit lacking (and felt the Civil War comic book was a lot better). It was pretty much a “popcorn” movie, not that there is anything wrong with that of course. I’ll also add Disney released way too much footage online, which is a reason – similar to Avengers 2 – that Civil War may come off as underwhelming for some. I also felt some of the camera work was off in certain places (some fight/action scenes seemed too fast and CGI wasn’t that good).

“Captain America: Civil War” is now in theaters directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Gerry Conway Says FU Zack Snyder About Batman Vs. Superman & More

Zack Snyder has come under fire for his depiction of the DC Universe: Batman kills, Superman kills, just about everything Superman has been butchered, etc.

Now legendary comic book creator Gerry Conway reacts to Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman and DCEU.

Quotes Zack Snyder made back in 2008 have surfaced, which caused Conway to take to Twitter to slam Snyder with a big “FU.”

Here are Snyder’s quotes:

You could call it “high-brow” comics, but to me, that comic book was just pretty sexy! I had a buddy who tried getting me into “normal” comic books, but I was all like, “No one is having sex or killing each other. This isn’t really doing it for me.” I was a little broken, that way. So whenWatchmen came along, I was, “This is more my scene.”

and

Everyone says that about [Christopher Nolan’s] Batman Begins. “Batman’s dark.” I’m like, okay, “No, Batman’s cool.” He gets to go to a Tibetan monastery and be trained by ninjas. Okay? I want to do that. But he doesn’t, like, get raped in prison. That could happen in my movie. If you want to talk about dark, that’s how that would go.

Here is what Gerry Conway, co-creator of Punisher, writer of Amazing Spider-Man, writer of death of Gwen Stacy, writer of JLA, creator of Firestorm, had to say:

Fuck you, Zack Snyder. “Zack Snyder’s baffling vision for superhero movies, explained by Zack Snyder”

The real mystery is why Warners gave him their whole superhero franchise after “Watchmen” and “Sucker Punch” flopped

Ah, the “sunk cost fallacy” in action, illustrating the Escalation of Commitment principle

Which part is garbage? Snyder’s obnoxious view of superheroes, or calling him out for those views? Warners’ continued support of Zack Snyder despite evidence he’s a terrible choice for superhero movies, explained:

But they ARE Snyder quotes and clearly reflect his current thinking as evidenced by #BvS. Seems relevant to me.

To be fair, #BvS is kind of a “fuck you” in its own way. Google “Jimmy Olsen fun Zack Snyder” if you think otherwise

Ezra Miller Batman Vs. Superman Flash Revealed

Images revealing a close look at Ezra Miller as The Flash from Batman Vs. Superman have hit the net.

A user on reddit posted the pics.

The scene featured what is thought to have been either an alternate universe Flash or a Flash from the future (or both) reaching out to Bruce Wayne to warn and tell him to form the Justice League.

“Bruce! Listen to me now! It’s Lois! Lois Lane! She’s the key! Am I too soon?! I’m too soon! You were right about him! You’ve always been right about him! Fear him! Find us bruce! You have to find us!”

The Flash costume used in the scene seems to resemble The Flash from Injustice: Gods Among Us. Maybe Elseworlds, as well.

This also apparently won’t be The Flash costume in Justice League as Zack Snyder previously teased a look (see below).

The Flash & Aquaman Said To Lose Directors Over Batman Vs. Superman Reaction

It’s being said that The Flash movie has lost its director, and Aquaman may have lost its director.

Regarding The Flash movie, THR is reporting Seth Grahame-Smith (whom WB never actually officially announced) has left The Flash over “creative differences” which is set to star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen.

Now Birth.Movies.Death, who was the source of the Suicide Squad reshoot info, is stating James Wan is having second thoughts about the Aquaman film.

The reason?

Batman Vs. Superman.

BMD says:

Both Zack Snyder and Geoff Johns were “taken aback” by critical and audience reaction to Batman vs Superman.

WB execs are now said to be at odds with Snyder over his vision of the Justice League movie and the DCEU moving forward.

WB was hesitant to take any action regarding Snyder on Justice League because they felt it would hurt Batman Vs. Superman‘s box office, as Justice League films so close to the BVS release date.

It’s said there are “lot of fights” between Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. executives as well as “lots of pressure” from WB on Snyder.

Regarding Aquaman, it’s said James Wan is in “tremendous amount of trepidation” about doing Aquaman, and that he really doesn’t need it as he has Conjuring 2 and Lights Out coming out soon.

It’s further said Wan is trying to decide if he needs the “hassle,” and that Aquaman may be delayed.

The report suggests Wan has the “upper hand” regarding Aquaman and may be able to get it made the way he wants.

Snyder’s Justice League is said to basically remain as Snyder envisioned it (too late in the process for changes).

Suicide Squad looks to be a hit, as well as (obviously) the Ben Affleck Batman movie.

It also means possibly that Dick Grayson is Nightwing in the DCEU.

“You helped raise the bar on Superman training today!” The Man of Steel actor posted. “I did 1 million reps in honour of you guys…just kidding, it wasn’t anywhere near that many but I did want to say thank you for the continuous support you have shown for the things that are dear to my heart!”

Cavill also tagged the post with: “#ThankYou #SupermanTraining #Superman #JusticeLeague.”

Following Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman, Henry Cavill returns for Justice League, which is currently filming in the UK.

Both Cavill and Justice League co-star Aquaman Jason Momoa have been hitting the weights pretty hard as of late. It’s thought we’ll see a duel between the Last Son Of Krypton and the King of the Seven Seas at some point in the film.

Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Wilem Dafoe in an unknown role.

Captain America: Civil War Is “Everything Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice Wasn’t”

It should probably come as no surprise, but Captain America: Civil War is projected to open huge.

Deadline reports, at least in their opinion and probably the opinions of at least a few others, that Captain America: Civil War  “is everything that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wasn’t in its execution:  Funny, politically savvy, and just a great ride.”

Captain America: Civil War is projected to have a  $190 million+ opening weekend in the U.S, which would not only pass Batman Vs. Superman‘s $160 million opener from last month, but it’s said the projection is at the low end, meaning Civil War could end up scoring one of the best opening weekend’s ever — possibly even better than The Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million).

Internationally, it’s said Captain America: Civil War is projected to open between $200-$230 million.

The report also mentions to expect Captain America: Civil War to be a lot better than Whedon’s Age of Ultron as Civil War “drops the Avengers action into fifth gear.”

Some other stats mentioned include:

• Fandango reports that Captain America: Civil War is already selling more advance tickets than all previous Marvel movies.

• Movio says advance ticket buyers are mostly males at 73%, with the average age being 32-33 years old.

• In addition close to half the crowd is made up of ticket buyers aged 22-40.

• 45% percent of presale tickets are for Thursday night, with almost 90% of tickets for Thursday-Saturday on opening weekend.

Civil War is surpassing Avengers in interest.

Captain America: Civil War has a 97% rating at Rotten Tomatoes.

“Captain America: Civil War” has  a May 6, 2016 release date directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Kent Farm House Returning For Justice League

It’s learned the Kent Farm House looks to be returning in some form for the Justice League movie.

The Superman Home Page reports locals have seen movement in the area where the Kent Farm is located in Yorkville, Illinois.

It’s said security is patrolling the area and boards have been taken down from windows.

More than likely crews are preparing the Kent Farm House for filming Justice League at a later day. The farm house was specially created for Man of Steel, and then used again in Batman Vs. Superman.

With the Kent Farm House returning, it’s probably a safe bet Superman’s mom, played by Diane Lane, will be back for Justice League as well.

Perhaps something at the house plays into how Superman comes back to life?

Zack Snyder recently joked in an interview that Kryptonians decay slower or differently than humans. Well, Zod didn’t come back from a broken neck, but Superman is going to be able to return from getting a big whole punched through his heart? Should be interesting to see what happens. Any theories?

“Justice League” has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Listen To The Batman Vs. Superman Podcast With Zack Snyder, Charles Roven & Deborah Snyder

With Batman Vs. Superman now out, listen to an Empire Online podcast below featuring director Zack Snyder and producers Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven.

Some highlights:

Zack Snyder starts off with talk of why he killed off Jimmy Olsen, noting in the upcoming director’s cut, the character will identify himself as Jimmy Olsen. Snyder says he killed off Jimmy Olsen to help the viewer realize this is a world they haven’t seen before etc.

Mention is made of doing a possible Man of Steel sequel, with Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven explaining why they went with Batman and Wonder Woman.

Deborah Snyder also says Lex Luthor knew all along the identities of Superman and Batman.

Zack Snyder says Superman didn’t know Batman was Bruce Wayne until the end.

The reason Zack Snyder showed Batman’s origin was to tie in the “Martha” moment later on between Superman and Batman.

Deborah Snyder hits at the existence of further metahuman by teasing maybe there are files on metahumans we don’t even know about, yet.

Charles Roven says Lex Luthor is the ultimate puppet master, because he set everything up (such as the Superman Lois desert scene).

Roven says Luthor did end up losing it with creation of Doomsday.

Regarding controlling Doomsday, Deborah Snyder hints that Lex Luthor may known more than we see as Lex has communicated with the ship or who he has been communicating with, and Lex has the knowledge of 100,000 planets from the ship. Roven also says that since Doomsday is in part made from Lex’s blood, Lex thinks there may be a connection between himself and Doomsday, “rightly or wrongly.” It’s Lex’s “Frankenstein.”

Regarding the death of Superman, Roven says another reason why they killed him off was so there would be a reason to go out and form the Justice League. You wouldn’t need a Justice League if you had Superman.

Charles Roven also says the reason they went with Ben Affleck and an older Batman is to make it clear that this isn’t a continuation of the Christian Bale Batman.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Henry Cavill Says Superman Is Better Than Captain America

The DC vs. Marvel Flame Wars have officially begun.

Following comments made by Chris Evans that no one can copy a Marvel movie, now Henry Cavill fires back on Facebook by stating Superman is better than Captain America, and uses an image of Scarlett Johansson to get his point across.

Cavill posted an image of himself as Clark Kent with a microphone holding it up to an advertisement with Johansson’s image.

“Reporting in from the Huawei P9 launch event in Shanghai and according to my sources Superman is indeed better than Captain America,” Cavill added, along with tagging the post with: “#P9 #Huawei #Shanghai #ScarlettJohansson Chris Evans #girlscoutcookies.”

Regarding Evans’ comments, he recently said about Marvel: “They’ve got a monopoly on it, they’re doing it and no one else can try and copy it.”

The battle between Captain America and Superman will officially come to a head when Captain America: Civil War opens May 6th. Batman Vs. Superman saw a huge opening weekend with $166 million. Will Cap be able to top that?

Henry Cavill has also started filming on Justice League, which opens November 17, 2017.

While Cosmic Book News is siding with Team Cap for Civil War, we might have to go with Team Superman when it comes to the battle of the boy scouts.

Batman Vs. Superman Passes $800 Million

Batman Vs. Superman has now passed $800 million at the box office.

The current numbers for Dawn of Justice have the movie at $800,801,288.

Domestically, Batman Vs. Superman has now netted over $300 million: $301,201,288.

Internationally sees Batman Vs. Superman approaching $500 million: $499,600,000.

Batman vs. Superman doesn’t look to be hitting the billion dollar mark anytime soon and continues to have slow weekday viewings (as much as a 50% drop compared to Man of Steel).

The good news is that WB doesn’t seem to be phased by the low numbers as WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara recently remarked Batman Vs. Superman “set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020.”

Justice League is currently filming in the UK for its November 17, 2017 release, and Zack Snyder recently addressed CinemaCon with a message from the set and cast.

A solo Ben Affleck Batman movie has also recently been confirmed.

Ben Affleck To Direct & Star In Batman Movie Confirmed

It’s confirmed Ben Affleck will both direct and star in a new standalone Batman movie.

Affleck also wrote the script with DC Entertainment chief creative officer and comic book writer Geoff Johns.

Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara confirmed the news Tuesday at CinemaCon, stating WB is movie forward with the Affleck Batman movie.

Kevin Tsujihara also had good things to say about the record opening of Batman Vs. Superman, which leads into Justice League.

“It set up a great foundation for our DC slate, which includes at least 10 movies through 2020,” Tsujihara told a packed room, reports THR. “I’m also excited to know that we will be working with Ben Affleck on a stand-alone Batman movie.”

Previously it was reported that Ben Affleck was only contracted to do two more movies following Batman Vs. Superman with Justice League parts 1 and 2, but obviously now we see Affleck and WB have extended the Batman deal. Ben Affleck is also appearing in August’s Suicide Squad movie.

The new Batman movie has yet to have a release date, but WB did just announce release dates for two DC movies – Oct. 5, 2018, and Nov. 1, 2019 – with one more than likely for Affleck’s Caped Crusader film.

Warner Bros. also showed off a DC Cinematic reel at CinemaCon which was introduced by Amy Adams (Lois Lane).

“You get your first real taste of this expanding universe,” Warners film chief Greg Silverman said in the clip.

Earlier rumors surrounding the solo Batman movie have mentioned the Red Hood.

Here is the current release dates for the DC movies:

August 05, 2016 – Suicide Squad

June 02, 2017 – Wonder Woman
November 17, 2017  – Justice League Part One

March 23, 2018 – The Flash
July 27, 2018 – Aquaman
October 05, 2018 – Untitled DC Film

June 14, 2019 – Justice League Part Two
November 01, 2019 – Untitled DC Film

April 03, 2020 – Cyborg
June 19, 2020 – Green Lantern Corps

Original Batman vs. Superman Cut Was Four Hours Long

Maybe if Zack Snyder’s longer cut of Batman Vs. Superman was screened in theaters, we all would have been happy?

Not only is there the upcoming Blu-Ray director’s cut of Batman Vs. Superman that is three hours long, but the original cut was actually closer to four hours long, with still another cut about three-and-a-half hours long, and then down to three hours, and finally down to 2 hours 33 minutes.

It’s learned the longers cuts of Batman Vs. Superman contained a lot more story focusing on the individual characters, which I felt was blatantly missing from the theatrical version and made the movie suffer overall.

The editor on Batman Vs. Superman as well as Man of Steel and the upcoming Justice League, David Brenner, spoke in length with Pro Video Coalition about the editing process of movies where mention was made about Dawn of Justice.

Some highlights:

“In the script there were more story lines than you see in the movie today. That was probably our biggest editorial issue in trying to get the cut down to a reasonable length.”

“For us, the trickiest section was the beginning of the film, until the point where Bruce Wayne tells Alfred the truth about what is on the ‘White Portugese’ ship… the truth about his plan.”

“Also in terms of building this beginning we had to move things around. In the script, Lex was introduced much later, but we found that in watching the movie – because he’s such an important player, it was best to set him up sooner.”

“It was a lot to juggle. So the plot lines of a couple characters had to go.”

“So what was once a nearly four hour cut with absolutely everything was ridiculous – ended up being about a three hour cut, once all these added storylines were refined with the fat was cut out.”

“I remember being a little worried.  Three and a half hours, okay, that’s fine for a movie of this size, the way Zack likes to work.   This was more daunting.   But we cut down ‘Man of Steel’ from about 3 and half hours, I knew we’d get this done.

“[Zack Snyder’s] a super visual guy. He was a painter before he was a director, and more than anyone I’ve ever worked with he thinks in terms of pictures. He storyboards his movies himself.  The whole movie from start to finish, he draws. He keeps books. ‘BvS’ had maybe three books of his drawings.”

“Right now he’s so busy in London prepping ‘Justice League,’ I’m the last guy he has time to talk to. I have questions, so I’ll wait till I go to London at the end of the week and I’ll figure it out. I think the more the work with somebody the more you understand that there’s a shorthand and it’s all going to be answered and there’s less anxiety about it.”

Hit the link above for more. It’s a good interview.
