Batman Vs. Superman Approaching $800 Million

Update: Batman vs. Superman has now passed $800 million.

While Batman Vs. Superman has been taking some heat (at least rumored) regarding its box office returns, the movie is now getting close to making $800 million worldwide.

Batman Vs. Superman currently has a $783,485,542 worldwide gross: $296,685,54 in the U.S., with $486,800,000 internationally.

Following a slow week that saw Batman Vs. Superman actually perform less than Man of Steel and Ant-Man, this weekend saw things pick up a bit as Batman Vs. Superman netted around $23.3 million domestically.

It’s estimated that Batman Vs. Superman may come in at #2 this weekend, falling to Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss, but the difference is marginal at best, possibly as little as $45,000. Full numbers will be known Monday.

Regarding why Batman Vs. Superman has been taking heat, while $800 million may sound like a large number, when Batman vs. Superman‘s total budget is accounted for, it’s rather low.

It’s probably a safe bet to state WB expected Batman Vs. Superman to hit a billion – especially with adding Batman into the movie – as Nolan’s two previous Batman movies scored over a billion. If anything, it goes to show a good story and writing goes along way rather than simply adding in something people consider “cool.”

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Ezra Miller & Grant Gustin Flash Have Nothing To Do With Each Other

For fans hoping one day the DC movie universe would cross over with the DC TV Universe — keep dreaming.

Gran Gustin is uber-popular right now starring on The CW’s Flash TV series.

Meanwhile, WB cast a different Barry Allen actor for their Justice League movie universe, Ezra Miller, who made his first two apperances recently in Batman Vs. Superman.

While Ezra Miller has previously mentioned parallel dimensions regarding the two Flash characters, and the Batman Vs. Superman Flash cameo hinted at multiple dimensions, producer Chares Roven says there is no connection at all.

“The Flash on the television show and the Flash in Batman v Superman don’t have anything to do with one another,” Roven told Coming Soon. “They don’t exist in the same time, place, universe or even dimension.”

Roven goes on to state it will be rather interesting to see the response to the two different Flash actors.

“Television is interesting. It’s going to be interesting to see if you can have two characters in two different mediums have the same name, have many of the same attributes and still coexist harmoniously because they’re from two different universes,” Roven said.

It also doesn’t appear as if Warner Bros. plans on having two characters exisit at the same time on TV and the movies ever again. WB already killed off Suicide Squad characters in Arrow, and most recently saw Zack Snyder kill off Jimmy Olsen in a post-release BVS interview (they didn’t even name the character in the movie); CBS’ Supergirl has their own Jimmy Olsen with Mehcad Brooks. It’s also known Batman and Superman don’t exist within the CW Arrow/Flash universe, and Superman has only been a blur on Supergirl. Regarding Gotham, Ben McKenzie and J.K. Simmons are probaby far apart enough in age where it won’t much matter much regarding Gordon.

WB Panic Button Rumored Following Batman Vs. Superman

Following the slew of rumors suggesting adjustments are going to be made, and that quite possibly Zack Snyder may lose control of the Justice League universe, now a new batch of rumors hits the net.

This time Variety says Warner Bros. is “close to hitting the panic button in Burbank this week.”

It’s noted:

• On Batman vs. Superman‘s 13th day of release, the movie is performing less than Ant-Man, Man of Steel, or even Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman (I recently went over how BvS is peforming 40% lower than MoS in the past four days).

• “Hitting the magic $1 billion figure in worldwide grosses seems to be out of reach.”

• It’s been said due to Batman Vs. Superman‘s poor performace, WB will now be doing less original movies and instead focus on the big tentpoles (DC movies, Harry Potter spinoffs, LEGO).

Batman vs. Superman is said to have become a “corporate vision.”

• Mandates were put forth to lay the Justice League groundwork (hence “Dawn of Justice”).

• Christopher Nolan stalled the DC Universe by making his Batman not set in an extended universe (The Dark Knight came out the same time as Marvel’s Iron Man, 2008).

• What’s clearly missing is vision, with it noted WB lacks a Marvel’s Kevin Feige.

• Geoff Johns is already stetched out too thin to have the “Feige role” for DC movies.

• Zack Snyder has been making the bulk of creative decisions.

• Production executive Jon Berg and and Time-Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes are said to be “taking more of a hands-on approach now, paying closer attention to overarching story concerns.”

• It’s again said WB wasn’t expecting such negative critical reviews.

Batman vs. Superman is said to have always been a “transitional film, bridging the gap between Man of Steel (which was produced with no plan in place to expand the universe) and anything approaching the Avengers/Super Friends mold.”

• It seems WB is still sitcking with Snyder as it’s said: “Justice League will be a crowd-pleaser more suited to Snyder’s talents, and that the upcoming two-part event is ‘extremely kinetic and visual.’ It will be far more straightforward than existential in its handling of superheroes.”

• It’s further suggested the “bounce-back will be considerable” when Justice League premiers November 17, 2017.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves.

Batman Vs. Superman To Be Less Profitable Than Man Of Steel

I just reported how Batman Vs. Superman is currently peforming 40% less than Man of Steel at the box office, and now it’s being said the Dawn of Justice will be less profitable for Warner Bros. as well.

Bloomberg reports Batman Vs. Superman will bring in a profit of $278 million to Man of Steel‘s $300 million, according to industry analyst Wade Holden.

Though there have been a slew of rumors suggesting Warner Bros. may make adjustements to their Justice League universe, the article notes WB is still pretty happy, otherwise they wouldn’t have announced release dates for two new DC Movies, with one thought to be Batman.

It’s also said Batman Vs. Superman will not reach a billion, and for BvS to be as profitable as the lower budget Man of Steel, it would have needed Avengers numbers: a gross of $1.15 billion worldwide.

“They have to be pretty satisfied; they probably aren’t elated,” said Matthew Harrigan, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities, who also thinks profits on Batman Vs. Superman will be lower than the estimated $278 million mentioned above.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is currently in theaters. “Justice League” starts filming April 11th.

Gal Gadot Says Wonder Woman Movie Is Dark

Following Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman, it’s learned the Wonder Woman movie is dark as well.

Gal Gadot filled in Digital Spy.

“In Batman v Superman, you get a glimpse of who she is but not where she comes from. In Wonder Woman, this would be the first time we ever tell the coming-of-age story of how Diana becomes Wonder Woman,” Gadot told Digital Spy. “It’s very interesting. It has moments of humour, but it’s pretty dark.”

Gal Gadot continues with mention where Wonder Woman will be in the movie, which is set before the events seen in Batman vs. Superman.

“We all saw before the beautiful coming of age of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman. We don’t know anything about Wonder Woman. We go back 100 years to when she’s more naïve,” explained Gadot. “She’s this young idealist. She’s pure. Very different to the experienced, super-confident, grown-up woman you’ve seen.”

Wonder Woman has a June 23, 2017 release directed by Patty Jenkins also starring Chris Pine Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis , Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and Connie Nielsen.

Batman Vs. Superman Performing 40% Less Than Man of Steel At Box Office

For those keeping track, the last four days have seen Batman Vs. Superman perform less than Man of Steel at the box office in the U.S.

Batman vs. Superman is actually now performing 40% less than Man of Steel following both movies’ second weekend release.

Batman Vs. Superman has totaled $12,842,495 from this past Monday to Thursday.

Back in 2013, Man of Steel netted $18,847,309 on the same four days.

The difference is $6,004,814.

It’s currently a toss up whether or not Batman Vs. Superman will remain #1 for the third weekend in a row as it faces competition from Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss, which is currently doing pretty well.

Man of Steel for its third weekend netted around $20.7 million. If Batman vs. Superman continues the current trend, it will do considerably less for its own third weekend.

Currently, Batman vs. Superman has a $723,550,542 worldwide total: $273,250,542 in the U.S., with $450,300,000 internationally.

Man of Steel finished at $668,045,518 worldwide: $291,045,518 in the U.S, $377,000,000 in foreign markets.

Zack Snyder Reveals New Batman Vs. Superman Deleted Scene

Zack Snyder reveals a new deleted scene for Batman Vs. Superman, which I guess sort of explains why the Man of Steel didn’t find his mother when Lex Luthor kidnapped her.

Honestly, it’s a pretty weak argument from Snyder as we already know Superman could find Lois Lane half way around the world when she was held hostage by terrorists in Africa.

Here’s what Snyder revealed to IGN:

“I think all the way – to me, from Metropolis to Smallville is probably just on the edge of his range of hearing” he explained. “Also the clutter of the city makes it difficult as well.”

“We had a scene that we cut from the movie where he tries to look for her when he finds out that Lex has got her,” Snyder continued. “It was a slightly dark scene that we cut out because it sort of represented this dark side. Because when he was looking for his mom he heard all the cries of all the potential crimes going on in the city, you know when you look.

“I kind of like the idea that he’s taught himself not to look because if he looks it’s just neverending, right? You have to know when, as Superman, when to intervene and when not to. Or not when not to, you can’t be everywhere at once, literally you can’t be everywhere at once, so he has to be really selective in a weird way about where he chooses to interfere.”

As noted, it’s unknown if the deleted scene will make its way in to the Batman Vs. Superman director’s cut.

Our biggest assignments were the actual fight between Batman and Superman in the 2nd act and the Gotham Battle, featuring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Doomsday, in the 3rd, final act. The IMAX resolution required that we push the technology and quality of our digital doubles further than we ever did before, which was an exciting challenge. We also created the new Gotham City, which was a vast complex digital environment that required months of planning and detailed mapping. We also had the fun project of introducing Flash and Cyborg in brief sequences.

Zack Snyder Rumored To Lose Justice League Control; Adjustments Made Following Batman Vs. Superman

With Batman vs. Superman getting such mixed reviews, and it now looking likely the movie won’t reach that magic billion dollar mark, the rumors are starting to fly.

The first rumor actually came out prior to the release of Batman Vs. Superman, which stated execs at WB were worried about the film and future of the Justice League universe. Looking back at it now, the rumor may hold merit, and now it’s also suggested Zack Snyder may no longer be in charge of Justice League (see below).

The second rumor – which turned out to be true – is that WB decided to do Suicide Squad reshoots. Now whether it’s to add in more humor like the rumor stated or more action like Jai Courtney offered is unclear, but reshoots are happening nonetheless.

The latest batch of rumors courtesy THR:

A new producer could be brought on to WB DC’s universe to take control over from Zack Snyder:  “…maybe add a new producer? — rather than allow BvS director Zack Snyder to proceed with the two-part Justice League.” However, the article notes: “But sources with firsthand knowledge of the situation say the studio has no such plans.”

(my thoughts: What’s up with Geoff Johns? Certainly he has to realize the movies aren’t in line with the comics, especially what they did with Superman in the last two movies. The bad news: Johns was on “Green Lantern.” The obvious problem could be is that Geoff Johns’ opinions hold no weight. Is anybody listening to Johns at WB?)

It’s rumored Batman Vs. Superman may make little profit:  “…competitors say the film may turn a profit but hardly will be the money gusher studios hope for when they pour massive resources into making a giant tentpole with a big star — with a budget in this case said to be in excess of $300 million, and Ben Affleck.”

DC movies are not like Marvel movies: “The biggest problem is that it is not turning [DC] into Marvel,” a rival studios head is quoted as stating. “The audience has communicated, as have the critics.”

Something is wrong with Batman v Superman:  The movie should be hitting a billion because Batman and Superman are two of the most iconic characters, and Jurassic World did hit a billion:  “…you can’t tell me Batman v. Superman is so much less valuable…” an agent argued.

• WB execs are clueless: “Warner Bros. executives were convinced they had the goods with BvS and were shocked when negative reviews began pouring in.”

(my thoughts: herein may lie the problem: The WB execs are obviously clueless about comic book movies and properties. Did they see the same movie as we did? Why not create a DC writer’s/consultant group consisting of Paul Dini, Bruce Timm, etc.? Use assets from DC properties that are already successful — animated and video game universes.)

• WB is said to dismiss the rumors: but will “naturally evaluate what went wrong with BvS.”

Regarding Justice League, WB says: “…we’re not going to take a movie that’s supposed to be one thing and turn it into a copycat of something else.”

“Instability” at WB: is a result of the ouster of Alan Horn (who is seeing huge success at Disney) and Jeff Robinov (who was in charge for the Nolan movies, Harry Potter, etc).

Superman Man Of Steel 2 Not On The Table; But Possible (Video)

I just went over possible details for Man of Steel 2 yesterday that included Zack Snyder revealing a possible ending, and now we hear from Snyder, Henry Cavill and Batman producer Charles Roven on the potential for another Superman movie.

The bad news is that no new Superman movie is on the table, but both Zack Snyder,  Henry Cavill and Charles Roven offer it’s a possibility down the road.

I’ll say after what Snyder did with Superman in Batman Vs. Superman, I hope WB brings someone else on board who understands and is a fan of the character. Snyder is 0-for-2 in my book.

You can watch the video below as well (via IGN).

Snyder: I think if we can get a good script, it would be great to get a standalone Superman movie. I think that would be fun to do.

Cavill: I do believe it depends on the success of this movie.  If this goes well then we can start to negotiate with Warner Bros. for a standalone Superman movie.  But they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies, so it’s about finding the time, really.  It’s something that I would be very keen to do.

Roven: We’re in the process of looking at that, but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled.

Sndyer: Part of the reason we didn’t announce a standalone superhero movie this time was to support some of the events of [Batman vs Superman].

Batman Vs. Superman Darkseid Knightmare Said Not To Be A Dream

I think this is pretty much in line with what most people think in regards to the Batman Knightmare scene from Batman Vs. Superman that hints at Darkseid with the omega symbol and the parademons.

Jay Oliva, who directs some of the WB animated films and worked on both Man of Steel and Batman Vs. Superman as a storyboard artist, compares the scene to something out of DC Comics’ Flashpoint Paradox. The long story short is that time travel in the DCU doesn’t necessarily directly change events, but creates alternate timelines which may or may not eventually happen.

“You want to know the answer? Okay… you’ve watched The Flashpoint Paradox, my movie, right? In the DC Universe in the comics, there’s this thing where– it’s a little different than the Back to The Future thing where you can go back in time and change your threads and stuff, but in DC, when you go back in time you create this kind of ‘Time Boom’ kind of thing where lots of things change.

“Okay, so let me just tell you this. Again… I don’t know if this is Zack’s thinking, but this is mine: what if that isn’t a dream sequence? What if what you saw was a Time Boom, a latent memory from the future when Flash comes back? If you look at the cut, he doesn’t go to sleep! He’s waiting for the [Lexcorp file decryption] and suddenly this [Knightmare sequence] comes in, and he’s jogged out of it seeing his own death. And what does he see? He sees Flash. And if you’re a DC fan, you know what’s happening. You know that Flash going back in time, that memory is now coming back to him… mind you, it’s jumbled.”

Obviously, the Batman Knightmare sequence may not directly happen in the DCCU, but something along the lines (i.e. Darkseid) will.

Zack Snyder Reveals Man Of Steel 2 Ending

Following the initial release of Man of Steel, there was talk of doing another Superman movie, which didn’t include Batman.

Obviously, that didn’t happen, but now a new detail is learned about Man of Steel 2 that references the Dark Knight.

In the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Art of the Film book, Zack Snyder reveals an ending discussed for Man of Steel 2.

“Originally, it was going to be a straight Superman movie,” Snyder explained. “One of the ideas was that at the end of the movie, a crate of kryptonite would be delivered to Wayne Manor. That didn’t happen, but once Batman was mentioned, he wouldn’t go away. It couldn’t be undone.”

Other details we know about the what-could-have-been Man of Steel 2 movie is that it featured an older Lex Luthor. Zack Snyder recently revealed they spoke with Bryan Cranston for the role, and Snyder told Total Film magazine a while back they had to tweak the Batman Vs. Superman script to accommodate using a younger 32-year-old Jesse Eisenberg.

“We talked about the usual suspects that you would imagine; any actor who has been bald, probably,” Snyder previously told Entertainment Weekly. “Bryan Cranston would have been great, right? And by the way, he’s an amazing actor. Can you imagine how different the movie would be?”

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice art book also reveals that Chris Terrio wrote (or rewrote from David Goyer’s script) scenes involving Laurence Fishburne’s Perry White, another Superman character.

“Chris Terrio has done such a great job of continuing what we’ve established with Perry White, but just turning him up a notch,” co-producer Curt Kaneomoto offered. “It’s really, really fun to see how he takes these gentle and not so gentle stabs at Clark in the film.”

The book even mentions the neon LexCorp sign seen in Batman Vs. Superman belonged to Lex’s father, and that Lex featured the sign in the lobby as a trophy over his victory of taking the company from his father, among their troubled relationship.

“Zack wanted Patrick [Tatopoulos] to come up with this gigantic old neon sign that maybe belonged to Lex’s father,” Batman Vs. Superman art director Gregory S. Hooper said. “It was on a rooftop. So, our graphic artist designed an enormous sign. I went down to Cleveland and had that built and installed, and it looked amazing.”

Details are also mentioned that under Lex Sr., LexCorp was more focused on Wall Street or The Big Three automakers. When Lex Jr. came on board, Lex Corp was then modeled on Silicon Valley.

The various details for Man of Steel 2 that we can put together are rather interesting as:

Obviously Man of Steel 2 would have solely focused on Henry Cavill’s Superman/Clark Kent.

• Would not have featured Batman (or any other Justice League characters most likely).

• Would have featured an older Lex Luthor.

• Would have featured Kryptonite.

• The ending would have seen a crate of kryptonite delivered to Wayne Manor, which we can speculate:

• Batman would have obviously taken notice of whatever happened in the movie and had the crate delivered to himself.

Or

• Lex Luthor Sr. delivered the kryptonite crate to Bruce Wayne (which is similar to what happened in Batman Vs. Superman), and this also would have revealed Lex Sr. knew about Bruce being Batman (and possibly other metahumans, again similar to BvS).

There were also rumors following Man of Steel that WB was going to do a solo Batman movie (possibly with a younger Bruce Wayne). It’s possible we could have had Man of Steel 2, a new solo Batman movie, possibly Batman vs. Superman or Batman AND Superman, then Justice League.

Or, for that matter, following Man of Steel 2 and a standalone Batman movie, right to Justice League.

Going the Man of Steel 2 route seems as if the Justice League universe may have been built up more slowly (compared to the Batman Vs. Superman cameos), and that Superman would have been the lead.

Batman Vs. Superman’s LexCorp Teases Something Big In 2017: Justice League?

Following the news that LexCorp had parted ways with Jesse Eiseberg’s Lex Luthor following the events of Batman Vs. Superman, now LexCorp has announced something big is coming in 2017, which also coincides with the release of the Justice League movie.

Obviously this may not mean much as it’s just part of the LexCorp viral marketing strategy, but seeing how many fans were disappointed with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, perhaps it is time for a change?

Batman Vs. Superman Box Office Less Than Estimated

The numbers for Batman Vs. Superman‘s second week at the box office have come in, and they are less than first estimated.

Batman Vs. Superman finished with $51.8 million, which is not only less than the estimated $52.4 million, but now sees the movie having dropped a whopping 69% and ties X-Men: Origins Wolverine for largest comic book movie drop.

Deadline notes it’s not time to throw in the towel just yet, but similar drops have caused other studios to rethink their strategy, such as with Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 (61% drop leading to Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot).

Reasons for the big second week drop (well, other than audience dissatisfaction) could be the Final Four airing on Saturday, and Wrestlemania and The Walking Dead on Sunday.

While nothing official regarding any future changes has come from WB about the negative reaction and possible low box office return for Batman Vs. Superman, it is rumored they are having David Ayer retool Suicide Squad to lighten up the movie a bit by adding more humor, which is similar to what is featured in the trailers.

It’s also noted that on social media, fans are unhappy with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor where it’s mentioned it has “ticked fans off.”

Zack Snyder is set to start filming Justice League next week.

Jason Momoa and Ray Fisher, who had cameo roles in Batman vs. Superman, are pretty excited about it as Momoa posted the following images of the pair on Instagram.

Justice League starts filming April 11th in the UK for its November 17, 2017 release.

Zack Snyder returns to direct, and Justice League also stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman (but in what form is anybody’s guess), Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Ezra Miller as The Flash.

It also recently became known that Ray Fisher will be starring with Ezra Miller in the 2018 Flash standalone film.

IS THAT……

No Worries: Batman Vs. Superman Remains #1 At Box Office

Despite Batman Vs. Superman having a less than stellar Friday performance at the box office, the movie did as expected for Saturday and will more than likely match estimates of a $52.4 million gross for its second weekend, giving “Dawn of Justice” the #1 spot again.

The good news is that Batman vs. Superman jumped 48% from Friday to Saturday: $22.6 million on Saturday compared to Friday’s $15.3 million.

The less than good news is that Batman Vs. Superman dropped 68% overall for the weekend, which is only a point behind the disastrous X-Men Origins: Wolverine’s 69%, and BVS faced no competition this weekend.

Domestically, Batman Vs. Superman has grossed $261.5 million in just 10 days; worldwide it’s approaching $600 $700 million (currently $682.9 million).

Final numbers will be in Monday.

Update: WB released the following (via THR):

“We’re not concerned with the drop,” said Warners domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein. “No matter how you slice it, to get to $52 million on any given weekend is an enormous accomplishment. We’re most focused on where we are in total. And our global number is huge.”

Watch The Awesome Flashpoint Paradox Fan-Trailer

Check out a cool fan-trailer for The Flashpoint Paradox featuring footage from the DC TV universe, DC TV and other sources put together by the UltraSargent YouTube channel.

Flashpoint was the DC comic book event that precended their 2011 New 52 relaunch. It was a pretty awesome series that saw The Flash change history and the DCU completely (for better or worse depending how you look at it).

The last scene in the above trailer features a Batman Vs. Superman cameo spoiler.

I’ll also include an explanation below for some of the footage (watch the trailer first if you are unfamiliar with the DC Comics Flashpoint storyline).

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Comedian Watchmen role is used as the footage for Thomas Wayne. In Flashpoint, a young Bruce Wayne is the one that gets killed, and Thomas Wayne takes up the Batman mantle, which is a gun-toting version of the vigilante. He battles his arch-nemesis The Joker — his wife, Martha Wayne.

Watch How Zod’s Body Was Created For Batman Vs. Superman

Check out a cool video above going over how they created Michael Shannon’s Zod body for Batman Vs. Superman.

For the blockbuster BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, ADI created two ultra-realistic replicas of the deceased General Zod that would withstand close scrutiny by a camera lense. Fitness trainer Greg Plitt came to ADI for us to lifecast his body from the neck down while our colleague Barney Burman loaned us a headcast of actor Michael Shannon. Once the Shannon headcast was copied both the head and body were run in silicone with a polyfoam fill to make them solid. Tony Matijevich, Brian Clawson, and Tim Leach created both Zod bodies; Denise Baer punched hair; Mike Larrabee painted both Zods.

Batman Vs. Superman Off To Slow Second Weekend

Just last night I wrote this weekend is a big test for Batman Vs. Superman.

Now the numbers have come in for Friday, and they are a bit low.

Batman Vs. Superman brought in $15.3 million on Friday, down a whopping 81% from last Friday (and Thursday previews). When Thursday previews are taken out of the equation, the drop is stil pretty high at 72%, which is on par with X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

There is no need to panic just yet as WB sources note to Deadline that similar drops happened with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and The Twilight Saga films New Moon and both Breaking Dawns.

It’s now suggested Batman Vs. Superman may bring in only $50 million for the weekend, when just a day or two ago it was upwards of $65 million.

That Friday $15.3 million is also pretty close to what Man of Steel did on its second Friday ($12.5 million), and we know WB shelved the sequel because of MOS’s poor box office performance (not a billion). Man of Steel also outperformed Batman Vs. Superman on Wednesday ($9 million to $8.1 million).

Deadline also says WB is well aware of the critic and fan reception to Batman vs. Superman, which is why the rumor about the Suicide Squad reshoots looks to be accurate as more humor will be added to that film (to be more in tune with the trailers).

Batman Vs. Superman has a current U.S. gross of $224,422,793; an international gross of $363,400,000; for a total worldwide gross of $587,822,793.

Man of Steel finished with $668 million.

Kevin Smith Says Ben Affleck Batman Script Will Be Better Than Batman Vs. Superman

With it recently confirmed Ben Affleck has written a solo Batman movie script, following his positive portrayal in Batman Vs. Superman, now many people are excited about the next adventures of the Dark Knight.

King of the comic fanboys Kevin Smith, who wasn’t all that happy with the characterization in Batman Vs. Superman and noted Batman in the movie was “not the world’s greatest detective,” now says Affleck’s script will be better than Batman Vs. Superman.

“I guarantee you he’s read everything [Batman vs. Superman review-wise] … and he’s like: ‘OK, these are all the pitfalls my script isn’t going to fall into,’ ” Smith told the Freep Film Fest in Detroit

Kevin Smith even spun it (as he’s known to do), that Affleck could even get an Oscar nomination for the Batman movie.

“[Ben Affleck] could get another nomination or even a win for his Batman film,” Smith said, as Affleck won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting (original screenplay) and Argo (best picture).

Ben Affleck also previously let it be known that DC Entertainment chief creative office, Batman Vs. Superman producer and DC Comics writer Geoff Johns had helped out on the Batman movie script.

The Batman solo movie has yet to be announced and Affleck is currently only signed on to do Justice League Part 1 and Part 2, but he is appearing in August’s Suicide Squad.

With the critical reception so poor for Batman Vs. Superman, and depending how the movie does in the long run at the box office, it’s possible WB could fast track a new Batman movie starring Affleck.

Big Test This Weekend For Batman Vs. Superman

Update: Friday numbers are in, and Batman Vs. Superman is off to a slow second weekend start.

Haters are going to hate, hate, hate, right?

Well, all the hate hasn’t stopped Batman Vs. Superman from taking over the box office; more than likely it has helped fuel the Zack Snyder-directed Dawn of Justice to break numerous box office records due to all the buzz created online.

To date, Batman Vs. Superman has amassed around $540 million, with almost $210 million in the U.S. Expect the numbers to be a higher following the weekend, which will be a big test for the movie.

Initially, there was a report out from Forbes that predicted Batman Vs. Superman would flop big time this weekend; however, the good news (or bad news depending how you look at it, I guess) is that most analysts have been revising their projections in favor of the movie, with it said Batman Vs. Superman may make as much as $60-70 million, which is in part due to absolutely no competition as well as the fact that Batman Vs. Superman hasn’t slowed down in its daily run.

If Batman Vs. Superman does happen to peter out, which is similar to Man of Steel, more than likely we can expect WB to revise Justice League and their approach to further DC movies. It’s already been said WB is reshooting Suicide Squad to add in more humor (which may or may not be legit as the info comes from a known Marvel sympathizer site), but there is no denying that if WB deems the box office returns of Batman Vs. Superman a failure, things will change. That’s why we didn’t get a Man of Steel sequel and why Batman was added to the movie.

It’s also probable that even if Batman Vs. Superman is a billion dollar success, WB will take note of all the negative reviews and chatter and change things accordingly. There is no denying the script for Batman Vs. Superman was rather weak. By all accounts, the visual effects and acting choices were pretty much top notch, but the story was what most complained about. Essentially, the Batman Vs. Superman screenplay was a combination of three scripts: The David Goyer Man of Steel 2 script, a Batman script, and Chris Terrio and Zack Snyder’s rewrites.

Again – good or bad news depending on how you look at it – is that Terrio and Snyder also wrote the Justice League script. Prior to Batman vs. Superman, Chris Terrio never read a comic book in his life, and he’s thought to be responsible for the Jesse Eiseberg Lex scenes and dialogue (at least). Hopefully, the Justice League script is a noticeable improvement, and as JL starts filming in ten days, if need be, they can make the script work (especially Superman).

Regarding fan sentiment about Batman vs. Superman, there seems to be a wide range of emotions, opinions and thoughts. Lots of fans absolutely hate it, while at the same time fans loved it. There is also the fact that respected comic book professionals have come out and publicly condemned the movie (Kevin Smith, Max Landis, Peter David — Mark Waid is silent this time around oddly enough), which was also similar to what happened with Man of Steel. It’s never a good thing when the fan base is split as such; certainly WB has to recognize this and possibly adjust their approach.

Batman Vs. Superman Cut Scene & Star Wars Easter Egg & Trailer Revealed (Video)

Watch video below featuring Batman Vs. Superman producer Deborah Snyder talking about a Star Wars Easter Egg that was included in the movie as well as a Henry Cavill cut scene.

Both Batman Vs. Superman and Star Wars: The Force Awakens filmed at the same time. Zack Snyder happens to be a big fan of Star Wars (and was at one time rumored for a SW movie). Snyder released an image of a Jedi Superman Henry Cavill (above), which saw Abrams follow suit with images of his own, only for Snyder to do so as well (see below).

Deborah Snyder actually reveals they created a special Batman Vs. Superman Star Wars-themed trailer, which was for their personal use, but hints it may be released at some point.

The Batman Vs. Superman Star Wars Easter Egg is of Lex Luthor as prisoner TK-421, which is the name of the Stormtrooper from Star Wars: Episode IV that Luke and Han stole the stormtrooper suit from used to infiltrate the Death Star.

Regarding the Batman Vs. Superman cut scene, it involved Henry Cavill as Clark Kent investigating Batman in Gotham City.
