Producer Charles Roven Describes Batman In Dawn of Justice

The latest issue of Empire Magazine has a featured article on Batman Vs. Superman. You can head on over here for a ton of details ranging from Batman’s nightmare sequence, to Doomsday, to Henry Cavill talking Clark Kent and more.

Now producer Charles Roven talks about Batman with Empire Online.

“[Batman] is not giving people a chance,” explained producer Charles Roven. “He is more than a vigilante. He has become not only the cop, if you will, he has also become the jury and executioner. He’s older [and] he’s seen the worst of what man can do. He’s been darkened by it, he’s tougher, he’s angrier, I guess. He’s still lost those that are near and dear to him, and not necessarily from old age or disease.”

Another previous detail also mentioned that Batman’s foes are locked up in Arkham Asylum.

In addition to the Batman image above, the magazine officially released five image stills and 14 scans have hit the net.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” has a March 25, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. Justice League is to follow directed by Zack Snyder as well.

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Lots Of New Batman Vs. Superman Details Via Empire Magazine

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23997:]]

In addition to the 14 new images, below you can check out details from the latest issue of Empire Magazine that has a featured article and cover on Batman Vs. Superman.

On Batman’s nightmare sequence:

• Takes place in the fictional nation of Kandahar

• Described as “pure Mad Max”

• Scene described as: Batman…shouldering a machine gun, walks unbowed through the blizzard to greet an armoured juggernaut pulling up in a desert compound that’s walled with rusty containers.

No mention of the Darkseid references

On Batman:

• Batman’s voice is digitally altered by the cowl

• Batman’s foes are said to be locked up in Arkham Asylum

On Alfred:

• Described as a butler “when required”

• Will be more “hands-on” in the movie

On Doomsday:

• “To go up against heroes like Batman and Superman, we wanted to introduce one of the DC Universe’s most iconic and powerful villains. He is essentially an unstoppable force. He poses a real threat to the world within the film.” -Zack Snyder

On Lex Luthor:

• “You learn pretty early on that Lex is interested in metahuman existence and that there might be some relationship between that investigation and the appearance of Diana Prince.” -Zack Snyder

On Wonder Woman:

• “It was incredibly organic how Wonder Woman came into the story. The whole concept came of, ‘Let’s not save anything. Let’s try it all.’ Then Wonder Woman’s entrance made us realise we were much closer to the Justice League than we thought. We realised we were one movie away.” – Zack Snyder

• Wonder Woman is over 5000 years old and has long given up her superhero days. Why is that:

“Because she’s seen it all, she has seen what humans can do, so it was very hard for her to come back and fight. They have the same attitude. Although when she is Diana she tries to blend in, she is not too outgoing. I don’t want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty.” -Gal Gadot

• “Her sexuality is part of her power, but she is also a feminist icon. Gender has been a hot topic, so it is very timely to bring her back. The way we have approached it, especially in the stand alone ovie, that is definitely there. Looking back and doing an origin story – and it is a period piece – see the role of women through history. There is a great source of humour in that now. It is so unbelievable you can’t even fathom it. You are still making a statement, but having some fun with it.” – Deborah Snyder

Henry Cavill On Superman:

• “He’s more used to this gig, doing his best to save as many lives as he can. He is no longer frantic. He’s no longer a wet behind the ears kind of superhero. He doesn’t agree with his form of justice. For this farm boy, who tries to do things the right way, justice at any cost is not something he can come to terms with.”

Henry Cavill on Clark Kent:

• “…show the world what this Batman dude is doing.”

• “He is the human side of the character, but there is often this idea that Clark and Superman must be so different. He can only get away with wearing the glasses so much. If he’s drawing attention to himself by being clumsy, that’s not going to work.”

Henry Cavill on Superman vs. Batman:

• “It’s not about one on one. Of course Superman is going to win. But it’s deeper than that. It’s nore that these two great powers exist and are actually trying to acheive the same thing, but in such different way…”

• [Superman is] “the guy who can kick anyone’s ass” [but is still] “the nice one.

Amy Adams on Lois Lane:

• “She may have some tunnel vision, but she’s got a job, moral standards. [When] we met her before she would do anything to get the story – now Clark has instilled some faith in humanity in her.”

• “Although moving in with Clark brings issues. It’s not a normal relationship. How could it be? One of them is an alien.”

• On potential scenes with Wonder Woman: “I am too busy sleuthing, but she definitely brings another dynamic.”

• Confirms scenes with Batman: “…[requires a lot of] wirework and special effects work” and is “a big moment.”

Darkseid Teased In Batman Vs. Superman Footage

Batman Vs. Superman Trailer #2

Update: The image comes from Empire Magazine. Check out 13 more.

Update #2: Check out Batman, Alfred, Doomsday and Wonder Woman details.

Do we have confirmation of Darkseid in the Justice League movie universe as Batman vs. Superman footage teases the big cosmic baddie?

Previously, Batman Vs Superman footage featured what looked to be Darkseid’s parademons – the winged creatures in Batman’s nightmare – and now new footage features none other than Darkseid’s Omega symbol.

It’s been said the scene is more or less a dream/nightmare sequence of Batman’s, but with two references to Darkseid, we’re guessing there has to be more to it. Maybe a premonition of some sort? Maybe we’ll get Desaad first (or even Granny Goodness!) appearing in Batman Vs. Superman?

Check out the latest Darkseid evidence for yourself (via reddit):

Kevin Smith also told Variety the following about Affleck as Batman:

“Right away, he’s the best looking Batman we’ve ever seen. The hardest thing to nail about Batman is Bruce Wayne, because that’s where you’ve got no mask and you’ve got to be a human being. But that dude is Bruce Wayne, so he’s born to play that role.

Now it looks like he is the best Batman we’ve seen so far.”

Kevin Smith Says Justice League Movie Universe Crossing Over With TV A Possibility

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23982:]]

With the controversy surrounding the casting of The Flash in the Justice League movie universe, with Ezra Miller, and the TV universe, Grant Gustin, there may come a potential resolution.

Have them both appear on screen together.

While it has been said the DC movies and TV shows are separate, if you happen to be a fan of the comics, you know there is an infinite number of possibilities that could make the two connect — all we have to do is point to this season of The Flash as evidence enough as we see there are alternate universes and portals.

Kevin Smith recently co-hosted the “Dawn of the Justice League” special with DC Entertainment chief creative officer and DC comic book writer Geoff Johns. Following the special, Smith appeared on his podcast and mentioned he talked with Johns about the possibility of the DC movie universe crossing over with the TV universe, which was cut from the show (via CBR):

“We did a piece where we talked about — I don’t know how much I’m supposed to say because they cut it out,” Smith said on the podcast. “But the idea [came up] of, ‘Hey man, DC is known for nothing if not a multiverse,’ so at which point I was like [to Johns], ‘Could they fucking crossover?’ And he was like, ‘Ahh.’ So doors are being left open and stuff like that. Think about this, you can have Ezra Miller be the Flash and you could also have Grant be the Flash, because there’s a multiverse at work.”

Even Arrow‘s Stephen Amell has campaigned to appear in the movie universe and backed Gustin as The Flash. Perhaps either Part 1 or Part 2 of the Justice League movies will be some sort of adpaptation of DC’s Crisis On Infinite Earths featuring all the DC heroes on screen together?

Ezra Miller may have hinted at the possibility of a crossover as he talked about other realities in the “Dawn of the Justice League” Flash segment:

Zack Snyder Talks Batman Vs. Superman & Reacts To Man of Steel Criticism

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23944:]]

The latest issue of Famous Monsters magazine features an interview with Batman Vs. Superman director Zack Snyder. Check out highlights, which includes Snyder commenting on Man of Steel criticisms and more.

On Batman Vs. Superman:

“The discovery of the story is that Batman fights Superman. Now move your superhero chess pieces so that can happen. And it can happen in a credible and interesting way. … It’s just incredibly satisfying and fun to dig into these two mythological characters and find a through line that allows them to come into conflict in a way that not only is philosophically satisfying, but also physically real.”

On Batman:

“He’s not yet tired of his place in the world. He’s definitely still tooth-and-nailing it.”

On Man of Steel cricism:

“I stand by it, because for me, I’ve always said when I was working on WATCHMEN — and maybe it’s sort of left over from a WATCHMEN philosophical sort of thing — that there should be consequences to superheroes’ interaction with the earth. And that was kind of the way that we approached MAN OF STEEL. I wanted a big consequence to Superman’s arrival on earth. Certainly, BATMAN v SUPERMAN sort of cashes in all its chips on the ‘why’ of that destruction.”

You can pick up the Batman Vs. Superman issue of Famous Monsters here.

Watch: Geoff Johns Talks Green Lantern From Dawn of the Justice League Special

Noticeably absent from the Justice League concept art is none other than Green Lantern.

We already know a Green Lantern Corps movie is planned for 2020, and that’s about all we know.

Green Lantern concept art was previously released at last Summer’s Comic-Con (see below), but it still has yet to make its way officially online. Interestingly enough, the art looked a lot like Chris Pine, who recently denied GL rumors, and has a role in Wonder Woman as Steve Trevor. The “Dawn of Justice” special didn’t feature the art, either.

During tonight’s “Dawn of the Justice League” special, Kevin Smith asks DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns to fill them in about something nobody knows.

Johns said Green Lantern will be coming to the Justice League Universe.

“We’ve been to the bottom of the oceans. We’ve been to ancient Green mythology. We’ve been to the past and future of Flash. We’ve been to the digital world with Cyborg,” Johns said. “We still got to go to space. So the Green Lanterns and the Green Lantern Corps will be coming to join the Justice League Universe.”

While Geoff Johns really didn’t offer much, if we take his words literally, it sounds as if the Green Lantern Corps already exists and will be making themselves known to the rest of the Justice League characters (at least that’s my understanding) some time down the road. Johns’ words also seem to confirm the rumors of more than one Earth-based Green Lantern  (as Johns says “Lanterns”).

A potential big Green Lantern spoiler recently hit the net as well.
