Captain America

The Avengers 2 Movie Gets Crossbones; Masters Of Evil?

I suppose this could be a pretty big spoiler seeing how it reveals that the villain for Captain America 2 “The Winter Soldier” survives.

It was just confirmed that actor Frank Grillo will be playing Crossbones in Captain America 2, and now the actor has apparently confirmed an appearance in The Avengers 2.

The original source that broke the story about Frank Grillo’s involvement with Marvel Studios, which the actor also confirmed on Twitter, spoke to Grillo who gave an affirmative to The Avengers 2.

The host of the Matthew Aaron Show let it be known that Grillo will be in The Avengers 2. (via Matthew Aaron Show) reports that Grillo is confirmed to play Crossbones in three Marvel Studios movies as well.

In the comics, back in House of M, Crossbones was a member of the Masters of Evil, which was led by The Hood. The Hood eventually went on to become a big part of Brian Michael BendisAvengers run, and interestingly enough, sought the Infinity Gems, which have been rumored to play a part in the Marvel Studios movies with mention of Thanos.

And the apparent Roger Wardell Marvel Studios Twitter scooper also let it be known that the Masters of Evil would be featured in The Avengers 2, albeit after this information already came out by the looks of it.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, and the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014.

Captain America 2 Production Title Revealed

When movies film they don’t use the actual title so as to try and remain under the radar.

Of course, that never works, but film studios use a production title anyway.

For Captain America 2 “The Winter Soldier,” the name that is being used is “Freezerburn.”

Now whether or not the title means anything in regards to the movie is highly doubtful, but “Freezerburn” is obviously a play on Captain America being put on ice.

For comparison, the production title for Iron Man 3 is “Caged Heat,” with “Thursday Morning” for Thor 2.

Captain America 2 also looks to be filming starting March 1st in LA and Cleveland as well as Washington D.C., if is anything to go by.

The Russo Bros. are directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier which has an April 4th, 2014 release date and stars Chris Evans.

Captain America 2: Frank Grillo Confirmed as Crossbones

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3645:]]Previously, a couple tweets hinted at Crossbones being in Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” as Frank Grillo was said to have tried out for a role in the movie.

Now we have confirmation as Variety reports that Frank Grillo will, indeed, play the villain known as Crossbones in Captain America 2.

Crossbones aka Brock Rumlow, was created by Mark Gruenwald, and has worked with the Red Skull and trained under Taskmaster becoming a deadly fighting machine, even though he has no super powers. He was actually the one to assassinate Captain America following Civil War in Captain America #25 as well.

Review: A-Babies vs X-Babies #1

“Avengers vs X-Men,” the massive Marvel Comics event, has come to an end. But now we get to see the Avengers and the X-Men battle it out like we’ve never seen them before – as babies! When little Steve Rogers has his Bucky Bear stolen by baby Cyclops, everyone who isn’t grounded or down with the chicken pox is called into action!

This comic is adorable. Not only is it a great all-ages book, but it’s also very fun to read. There are lots of hidden Marvel jokes, but all of them are funny whether you know the history of the characters or not.

Skottie Young has written another example of why all-ages comics can thrive in the market. All they need is the right creative team and the chance to shine. He writes the little Avengers and X-Men as cute but true miniaturized versions of themselves. You could also deconstruct this whole scenario as a metaphor for how the Marvel superheroes act sometimes during a conflict, but it’s much more fun to just love it as a humorous story.

Gurihiru does the interior art for this first issue. Each panel has life and energy that you wouldn’t expect from a book like this. When baby Thor throws his hammer it’s just as dynamic as when the adult Thor does it. The characters are expressive, the cartooning is spot on, and the tone makes you want to go back to your old neighborhood and play in the street again.

Marvel may have released the best all-ages title this year. Let’s hope that the series continues so that we can share this book with the younger people in our lives and the young at heart.

Iron Man 3: Mandarin Has A Captain America Tattoo!

Check out this little Easter Egg from the recent Iron Man 3 trailer.

It’s Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin sporting a Captain America tattoo — anarchy style!

Or is that “A” for the Avengers?!

And why is it so big and on the back of his neck?

I’m guessing either there is history between Captain America and the Mandarin, going back to WWII? Or the Mandarin hates everything that Captain America represents, so he tattoos himself to remember etc. etc.

Kinda wild.

Does that mean Chris Evans will appear in Iron Man 3? Or even that Ben Kingsley could make an appearance in Captain America: The Winter Soldier?

Things just got interesting.

Iron Man 3 blasts off May 3rd, 2013 directed by Shane Black and starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle.

Head on over to the Cosmic Book News The Avengers Movie Hub for more news, images and trailers.

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.

Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Captain America 2: Frank Grillo Might Play Crossbones

It seems likely that Crossbones might be featured in Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” as a pair of recent tweets seem to reveal as much.

This past Saturday saw a rumor hit the net that Frank Grillo (The Grey, Warrior) screen-tested for Crossbones, with a recent tweet by Grillo stating that he had a good trip with Marvel and that he hopes it all works out.

See Ya LA. It was a a good trip. Marvel was a lot of fun. Be cool if it works out. #CaptainAmerica

Crossbones aka Brock Rumlow, was created by Mark Gruenwald, and has worked with the Red Skull and trained under Taskmaster becoming a deadly fighting machine, even though he has no super powers. Michael Bay Blasts Hugo Weaving Over Megatron

Hugo Weaving is on quite the roll as of late with the actor not only stating he doesn’t want to reprise his Red Skull role, but now he sounds off about voicing Megatron for the Transformers franchise.

Earlier, Weaving mentioned to the Collider that he is not really interested in doing the Red Skull again and hopes Marvel Studios doesn’t force his hand, as he is technically signed on for more than one movie.

In the same interview, Weaving voices his thoughts about voice-acting for Megatron and states he really had no idea what the movie was about, but that he went and did the job, while feeling it to be meaningless.

“That’s a weird job for me because it honestly was a two-hour voice job, initially. I was doing a play and I actually didn’t have time, anyway. It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it. They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don’t mean that in any nasty way. I did it. It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things. Of course, it’s a massive film that’s made masses of money. I just happened to be the voice of one of the iconic villainous characters. But, my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal. I have never met him. I was never on set. I’ve seen his face on Skype. I know nothing about him, really. I just went in and did it. I never read the script. I just have my lines, and I don’t know what they mean. That sounds absolutely pathetic! I’ve never done anything like that, in my life. It’s hard to say any more about it than that, really.”

Well, if you are familiar with Transformers director Michael Bay, you know Bay doesn’t take much – stuff – as previously, I believe, Megan Fox was canned from Transformers for a Jewish comment about Steven Spielberg.

Now, Michael Bay sounds off via his official website (via Blastr) on Huge Weaving. While the director doesn’t specifically name Weaving, it’s all but a given.

“Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs? With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t ‘artistic enough’ or ‘fulfilling enough’? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so. “What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job – let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America. “I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their ‘unhappy job money’ to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate.”

I would also say that it is safe to assume that Hugo Weaving will not be back to voice Megatron for Transformers 4.

At least Peter Cullen will for Optimus.

Ant-Man Movie Gets November 6, 2015 Release Date; Thor 2 & Iron Man 3 in 3D

Disney sent out a press release announcing that the Ant-Man movie will be released on November 6, 2015.

In addition, both Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, “The Dark World,” will be released in 3D.

As it stands, the Ant-Man movie will be the first Marvel Studios movie after The Avengers 2, which has a May 1, 2015 release date.

Director Edgar Wright recently brought with him, to the recent San Diego Comic-Con this Summer, his Ant-Man movie test footage that is said to be getting cleaned up and eventually released. For an idea of what was shown, an artist put together his own Ant-Man movie footage from what he viewed at the Comic-Con.

Captain America 2 Films In Cleveland, Ohio

Press Release

Greater Cleveland Film Commission Announces Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Film in Cleveland, Ohio

CLEVELAND, OH – (Sept. 28, 2012) The Greater Cleveland Film Commission today announced that Marvel Studios will film portions of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier in Cleveland, Ohio. Set for release by The Walt Disney Studios in 2014, the movie is a sequel to the 2011 hit Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans. Marvel Studios will film stage work for the production in the studio’s home state of California.

Filming for Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled to begin next yearThis film project follows on the heels of Marvel Studio’s 2012 blockbuster Marvel’s The Avengers, which filmed in several locations throughout Ohio in 2011, broke a number of box office records, and was the fastest film ever to gross $1 billion in sales worldwide.

“Marvel is pleased to return to Ohio, this time with our Captain America: The Winter Soldier production. The location, talent and people of Ohio are sure to benefit our film, and we look forward to beginning production,” said Louis D’Esposito, Co-President, Marvel Studios.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier will pick up where Marvel’s The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world. The film will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, Cleveland natives whose credits include the movie Welcome to Collinwood, the Fox TV series Arrested Development, and the NBC TV seriesCommunity.

The Greater Cleveland Film Commission was in talks with Marvel Studios for weeks, sharing information about Ohio’s physical assets and helping them learn about the benefits of filming in Ohio — including the recently expanded Ohio Motion Picture Tax Incentive.

In June, the State of Ohio expanded the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Incentive, a critical tool for strengthening Ohio’s growing film industry and creating jobs for Ohioans. The tax incentive provides for a refundable credit against the corporation franchise or income tax for motion pictures produced in Ohio.

“We’re thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing another major motion picture project to Cleveland, and we’re committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer,”  said Ivan Schwarz, executive director of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. “We proved with the filming of Marvel’s The Avengers that Cleveland has the talent, architecture and amazing locations that will provide filmmakers everything they need to ensure a successful filming experience, and the economic impact of this new project can’t be denied. Filming will create a number of jobs for Ohioans and will give our region another chance to demonstrate how skilled, professional and dedicated our workforce truly is. We especially appreciate Governor Kasich and the Ohio Film Office for their support and timely approval of these exciting opportunities.”

The Greater Cleveland Film Commission is committed to building a year-round, sustainable statewide film industry through job creation, workforce development, and attracting media production.

Frank G. Jackson, Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, stated, “We are thrilled to host Marvel and the filming of Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2013. We have worked diligently with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission to make our city an attractive location for films of all sizes. Marvel’s return to Cleveland shows we can provide a film-friendly atmosphere that will ultimately lead to a permanent presence of the film industry in Northeast Ohio.”

About 1,143 full-time equivalent Ohio jobs and $35.5 million in household income are estimated to have been credited to the 27 projects that took advantage of the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit since its 2009 inception, and the tax incentive returns $1.20 into the Ohio economy for every $1 invested by the incentive, according to a Cleveland State University study released earlier this year.

“We are thrilled that Cuyahoga County is being seen as a destination for filmmakers,” said Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald. â€œThe resources that we have to offer, including our skilled workforce, makes our region a natural fit for the film industry. Projects like this means jobs and economic development for Cuyahoga County.”

Captain America’s Long Hair Explained: It’s Cosmic!

About a week ago Marvel released the cover to the new Marvel NOW! Captain America which featured Steve Rogers sporting Thor-length hair.

That isn’t the Cap most are used to, and we know if his superiors caught a glimpse, Captain America would get an Article 15 faster than he can shake a stick at.

Marvel released the full December solicit for Captain America #2 where we see the reason for Captain America’s long hair is that Cap gets stuck in another dimension — Dimension Z!

Dimension Z is said to be a dimension with no atomic energy technology. They have previously attempted to steal Earth’s scientists – including Hank Pym – to develop their own. However, Earth’s mightiest heroes have put a stop to the inhabitants of Dimension Z, including the Living Eraser, numerous times.

We take it Captain America must have left his combat knife at home.

Dimension Z continues!
• “Remember their faces, their families. Remember what they love. Learn how to turn it against them. “
• Arnim Zola’s ambitions leave Captain America stranded in the upside-down territory known as Dimension Z.
• Steve has saved the life of Zola’s son, but can he keep him alive?

Amazing Spider-Man Ends In December; Wolverine and Captain America, Too

This is not really that much of a surprise with the coming Marvel NOW! relaunch.

As of this December, Marvel will be ending the Amazing Spider-Man with issue #700.

No further information is given about an Amazing Spider-Man relaunch, but a previous Marvel NOW! teaser featuring “Superior” – with more info forthcoming at the NYCC – was revealed last week.

In addition to Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine and Captain America and Black Widow are getting canceled as well.

There is already the standalone “Captain America” Marvel NOW! book, so as Robot 6 notes, Marvel may be just trimming the line down to one.

Most likely a new Wolverine will be announced as well.

Now Marvel Spoils The Ultimates

We just heard from a comic book reader about Marvel spoiling Avengers vs. X-Men, and now we get a spoiler for both Ultimates #15 and #16.

I posted on my personal Twitter account (no, I’m not the Penn St. QB), if folks would stop buying the issues that Marvel spoils, the problem would be solved real fast.

Marvel released spoilers through The Washington Post as well as to the inboxes of comic book news sites.

So what’s the big spoiler? Captain America becomes President.

Right in time for the elections.

Marvel also sent out these pages:

Captain America Wants To Appear In Thor 2; Talks Winter Soldier

Thor 2, “The Dark World,” is currently filming in Bourne Wood, England, the current scene of a major battle between races.

Lots of images have been hitting the net, ranging from Chris Hemsworth as Thor to more Asgardians, to aliens and their advanced high-tech weaponry.

So with Thor 2 including so much war, who better to have on your side than — Captain America?

Chris Evans recently attended the Toronto Film Festival promoting his upcoming movie, Iceman, and spoke on just that.

“[Chris] Hemsworth and I even talked about that. I would love to do a little thing in Thor 2,” Chris Evans told the Collider. “It is obviously going to be tricky trying to work out the plot, the reason why I am not there to help him, and why he is not there to help me. But the best thing about Marvel is that, like I said, the movies were so good and we had such a good time making them.”

Obviously this is not confirmation that Chris Evans will be appearing in Thor 2, but it does show that there is the potential for it. And as the Collider notes, the actors are signed on for numerous Marvel Studios movies, so an appearance by Captain America in Thor 2 could be a strong possibility, and be one certainly welcomed by the fans.

Speaking of the fans, comic book readers will like what Chris Evans says about the Winter Soldier comic book. As we previously heard about the use of the Winter Soldier in Captain America 2, there have long been plans for it. Now, Chris Evans says that he is fully up on his comic book reading about James “Bucky” Barnes, the Winter Soldier, and even teases about the third movie.

“Oh, I am fully up to date with my comics. I know all about it. Kevin Feige was talking about [Winter Soldier] when we were filming the first Captain America and well before The Avengers. During the first Captain America we were talking about potential futures and, you know, I don’t want to give too much way,” Evans said.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3176:]]Regarding The Avengers movie, we learn from Chris Evans that some of the deleted scenes from The Avengers movie might make their way into The Winter Soldier, as a lot of the scenes dealt with the personal nature of Steve Rogers (such as this Blu-Ray feature with Stan Lee).

“The most I am looking forward to is exploring a little bit of Steve’s…they had all those deleted scenes with The Avengers because a lot of those scenes are for Captain 2, you know what I mean? It was good stuff, but it all felt like that was his story. It is a different movie. With The Avengers there was so much to cram in. Like I said, it was a long movie anyway. So I think making it any longer would have just been exhausting,” Evans said.

Captain America 2: Anthony Mackie Talks Falcon

We just heard from Chris Evans who recently spoke about Anthony Mackie playing Falcon in Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” and now Mackie comments as well.

“I’m playing the Falcon,” Anthony Mackie tells Newsday. “He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers. He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That’s a huge honor for me.”

In the Marvel Comics, Sam Wilson became the Falcon after crashing on an island and getting his powers from the Cosmic Cube via the Red Skull who erases Wilson’s memories of his criminal past. Eventually Wilson meets up with Captain America on the island where they come up with the idea of the Falcon super hero and go on to overthrow the Red Skull.

However, if we look to the Marvel Ultimate Comics version of Falcon, which the Marvel Studios movies more resemble, Sam Wilson is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. under Nick Fury with high-tech wings controlled through the use of nanotechnology.

Obviously it remains to be seen which version of the story Marvel Studios will go with, because as we saw in Captain America: The First Avenger, the cosmic cube played a role. Maybe some kind of combination of both?

The Russo Bros. are directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier which has an April 4th, 2014 release date and stars Chris Evans.
