Fans expecting movie-length episodes for Stranger Things 5 on Netflix might be surprised by the official runtimes just revealed.
While earlier speculation had each episode pushing 90 minutes to two hours, co-creator Russ Duffer took to Instagram to set the record straight.

Runtimes Now Confirmed
In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, Duffer showed a behind-the-scenes look at the Netflix production interface displaying work-in-progress versions of the final season’s episodes. The actual runtimes appear much shorter than previously rumored:
- Episode 1 – “The Crawl”: 1 hour, 8 minutes
- Episode 2 – Title TBA: 54 minutes
- Episode 3 – “The Turnbow Trap”: 1 hour, 6 minutes
- Episode 4 – “Sorcerer”: 1 hour, 23 minutes
The video emphasized “ACTUAL runtimes ✌️,” suggesting these are final cuts or very close to locked. The reveal also hints that earlier reports were based on production assumptions, not completed episodes.
What It Means for the Final Season
Stranger Things 5 still looks to pack a lot into its runtime, even if it’s not delivering a string of feature-length episodes. The fourth episode, “Sorcerer,” is the longest confirmed so far and likely represents the season’s mid-point crescendo.
The season kicks off November 26 with Volume 1 (Episodes 1–4), followed by Volume 2 (Episodes 5–7) on Christmas, and the final episode on New Year’s Eve — all streaming on Netflix at 5 p.m. PT. / 8 p.m. EST.

What is Stranger Things 5 about?
Stranger Things 5 picks up in the fall of 1987. Hawkins is torn apart after the rifts opened to the Upside Down. Vecna has vanished, and the group has one goal—track him down and kill him. But the government has quarantined the town and resumed its hunt for Eleven, pushing her back into hiding.
With the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaching, the threat grows. Netflix says the final battle is coming, and it’s the most dangerous one yet. The full group will need to reunite if they want to stop Vecna and end the Upside Down threat for good.
Season 5 will also answer remaining questions about the Upside Down. The Duffers created a 25-page internal guide to the alternate dimension when the series began, and this final chapter will finally reveal what’s left in that document.
“We’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” Ross Duffer previously said. “And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”
