Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will be available for streaming on Paramount+ starting February 18 in the U.S. and Canada. Paramount Pictures and SEGA’s latest installment in the Sonic franchise follows the success of the first two films, both of which are also available on the platform. The streaming lineup includes classic animated series and the original event series Knuckles.
Following the theatrical release of Sonic The Hedgehog 3, viewership of the first two films jumped by 185%. The franchise’s next entry, Sonic The Hedgehog 4, is already set for a theatrical release on March 19, 2027.
Box Office and Critical Success
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 dominated the box office, securing the top spot in North America and breaking international records. The film has earned over $478 million globally, making it the highest-grossing entry in the series and the second highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. The franchise has now surpassed $1.2 billion in total box office revenue.
Critically, the film received an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes and an A rating from Cinemascore, the best reception in the series so far.
Plot and Characters
The film picks up after Knuckles, bringing Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails together for their biggest challenge yet. The trio faces Shadow, a powerful and mysterious hedgehog unlike anything they’ve encountered before. To stop him, they must form an unlikely alliance.
Cast and Production Team
Directed by Jeff Fowler, who has helmed all three films, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 features returning stars Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, and Shemar Moore. Keanu Reeves joins the cast as Shadow the Hedgehog.
The film is produced by Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, Toru Nakahara, and Hitoshi Okuno. The screenplay was written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.
Rating and Availability
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is rated PG for action, mild violence, rude humor, and thematic elements. The film’s availability in additional international Paramount+ markets will be announced later.
