‘Single White Female’ remake gets a new title

The original 1992 thriller was titled Single White Female, but for obvious reasons, the remake is now going by Single Female.

The project is being developed by 3000 Pictures, a division of Sony Pictures.

That title change is obviously going to get attention, especially since the original movie’s name was part of its identity for more than three decades.

What the original movie was about

Single White Female starred Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh and followed a woman who rents out a room in her apartment, only to become increasingly suspicious of her new roommate’s unsettling behavior. The 1992 film was based on John Lutz’s novel SWF Seeks Same.

The original movie pulled in nearly $200 million worldwide in today’s dollars, which helps explain why Sony is interested in reviving the property with two high-profile younger stars.
