‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Sparks $3.4 Million Thursday Box Office

‘Shazam: Fury of the Gods’ Sparks $3.4 Million Thursday Box Office

The Shazam: Fury of the Gods box office opened with $3.4 million on Thursday with the preview screenings which is below the first movie’s $5.9 million.

The sequel is also estimated to have a lot lower opening weekend box office with around $35 million if it’s lucky.

Shazam! released in 2019 opened with $53.5 million and went on to bring in $365.9 million worldwide but barely made any profit.

Update: $30 million is likely.

The sequel is also getting hammered on Rotten Tomatoes as while the first film comes in at 90%, Fury of the Gods is only at 53%. The Audience Score is pretty much the same at 84% while the first film is at 82%. Ditto with IMDb, as Fury of the Gods has a 6.8 rating and the first film a 7.0.

Aside from the release of The Batman ($770.9M), DC has been taking a beating as of late at the box office as Dwayne Johson’s Black Adam couldn’t crack $400 million, and the releases of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad ($168M) and Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 ($169M) bombed. Big things are expected with the release of The Flash movie in June which cost $200 million to make and features the return of Michael Keaton as Batman.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is directed by David F. Sandberg and produced by new DC co-head Peter Safran and stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel as Billy Batson; Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman; Adam Brody as Super Hero Freddy; Ross Butler as Super Hero Eugene; Meagan Good as Super Hero Darla; D.J. Cotrona as Super Hero Pedro; Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield / Super Hero Mary; Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley; Ian Chen as Eugene Choi; Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña; Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez; Cooper 2 Andrews as Victor Vasquez; with Djimon Hounsou as Wizard. Joining the cast are Rachel Zegler, with Lucy Liu, and Helen Mirren.
