‘Primitive War 2’ Announced: War-Horror Sequel Sends Dinosaurs Back to Vietnam

Luke Sparke returns to write and direct Primitive War 2, the official sequel to the cult war-horror hit, based on the books by Ethan Pettus.

Following the original’s underground success, Sparke Films has officially greenlit a second chapter in the Primitive War saga, expanding the series’ unique blend of grounded military realism and dinosaur survival horror.

A Darker, More Intense Sequel

The new film is set in the aftermath of Primitive War and follows a fresh U.S. platoon deep into an unstable Vietnam valley. There, Cold War secrets collide with rival kill zones, apex predators, and a growing sense of dread.

“The first film was about discovery,” said writer-director Luke Sparke. “This is about escalation—what happens when control is lost, when nature adapts faster than military doctrine, and when the war itself becomes secondary to what’s been unleashed.”

Same Team, Bigger Scope

Sparke—who handled writing, directing, editing, VFX, and production design duties on the original—is reuniting with much of the same Queensland-based production crew. Producers Carmel Imrie, Carly Sparke, Geoff Imrie, and Alex Becconsall are all back on board, with Let It Be Entertainment once again producing.

Casting is underway, and production is slated to begin ahead of a 2027 release. International buyers and studio partners are also returning, with new deals reportedly in the works to expand the franchise.

The Book Series Lives On

Primitive War 2 is once again based on the book series by Ethan Pettus.

“I had a blast watching the first Primitive War film,” Pettus said in a statement. “And I’m excited to see how the sequel goes!”

The original Primitive War developed a strong fanbase after its international release, praised for its serious tone, practical effects, and genre mash-up appeal. The sequel promises to push the franchise further into darker, more ambitious territory.

Luke Sparke is repped by Ben Levine (Link Entertainment), Vivek Kolli (Kolli Management), and Adam Vitable (Hirsch Wallerstein).
