Ant-Man Trailer Hits Monday: Feige Talks Ant-Man In MCU

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20020:]]

Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige has been making the press rounds as of late for The Avengers: Age Of Ultron where he recently discussed Spider-Man in high school and the new costume.

Now Feige discusses Ant-Man’s part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s also been announced a new Ant-Man trailer will be released on Monday.

Via SlashFilm:

The truth is the phases mean a lot to me and some people but…Civil War is the start of Phase Three. It just is. And Ant-Man is a different kind of culmination of Phase Two because it very much is in the MCU.

You meet new characters and you learn about Hank Pym and his lineage with the MCU over the years. But at the same time, it also picks up the thread of Age of Ultron in terms of heroes – major heroes, Avengers – coming from unexpected places. Whether it’s prison in the case of Scott Lang or being a very disgruntled Sokovian Twins as Wanda and Pietro are in Age of Ultron. And in that way it connects a lot.

Also, Hank Pym’s attitude towards Avengers, towards S.H.I.E.L.D, and kind of the cinematic universe in general, is much more informed after the events of Age of Ultron, and in a certain way, before the events of Civil War.

“Ant-Man” has a July 17, 2015 release directed by Peyton Reed starring Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne and Corey Stoll as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket.

Synopsis:

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Viggo Mortensen Talks Turning Down Wolverine & Man Of Steel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20019:]]

Viggo Mortensen has always been in high-demand even previous to landing Aragorn in Lord of the Rings as the actor was offered the part of Wolverine for the 2000 X-Men movie.

Mortensen discusses turning down the Wolverine role with the Daily Beast.

“I was offered Wolverine for the first movie—I guess it would have been for the franchise then,” Mortensen recalls. “That was before I got Lord of the Rings. I remember going to the meeting with the director, Bryan Singer, with my son who was a total comic book expert. He was about 10 at the time. Henry came, and Bryan showed us all these models and storyboards, and Henry was instructing the director, saying, ‘Oh, you’re going to change this thing right here.’

“I believe it coincided with another project, and I couldn’t do it,” Mortesen offered.

Mortensen also says he was offered two parts in the Zack Snyder Man of Steel movie (I’m guessing General Zod and Jonathan Kent).

“Every once in a while, I get an offer like that. I was offered two different parts in the last Superman movie they made, but I wasn’t available to do that either,” says Mortensen.

Another movie that Viggo Mortensen turned down is Snow White and the Huntsman, with the role going to Chris Hemsworth.

“When they offered it to me, it was a different story and seemed more justified to be called Snow White and the Huntsman. The movie they ended up making should have been called Snow White and the Wicked Witch. The original script was a lot funnier and there was a longer apprenticeship. It was almost like The African Queen a little bit.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man Gets New Costume & No Origin

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20016:]]

Earlier saw Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige confirm that Peter Park is in high school, and now Feige offers further details.

While doing press for Avengers 2, Kevin Feige speaks with Crave Online about Spider-Man stating there will not be not an origin story and confirms a brand new costume.

“It will not be an origin story,“ Feige offered. “But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is. But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers.

“There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU, you just don’t know it yet,” Feige said with a laugh.

Feige continues with mention of an idea what they will do with Spider-Man.

“And also the notion that he is very, very funny and very, very witty when he’s in that costume, swinging around,” Feige said. “Not as a standup comedian, obviously, but as almost his nervous energy, bothering the criminals with banter as much as with his powers. That’s something that I think we’re excited to explore.”

Kevin Feige also confirms they have designed the new costume, and that they have been thinking of Spider-Man for a while – ever since the Phase 3 plans started.

“…we’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before. And yet ours is classic Spidey, as I think you’ll see,” Feige said. “Spider-Man we knew about when we were doing that announcement in October. It could have gone either way, and Marvel as you well know doesn’t announce announce anything officially until it’s set in stone. So we went forward with that Plan A in October, with the Plan B being, if it were to happen with Sony, how it would all shift. We’ve been thinking about it as long as we’ve been thinking about Phase Three.”

Spider-Man is speculated to first appear in “Captain America: Civil War” in May 2016, with the standalone Spider-Man movie, of which Feige is producing, due out from Sony in 2017.

Mark Ruffalo Teases Hulk Going To Space & Planet Hulk

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20008:]]

Two big questions regarding what takes place in Avengers 2 happen to be: What happens to Thor, but perhaps the bigger question is what happens to the Hulk?

Just about all the Avengers in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron have already been announced to be a part of another movie – except for the Hulk.

Captain America: Civil War, which follows The Avengers 2, will feature Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner.

Likewise, the third Thor film, “Ranarok,” has been announced to have a 2017 release date.

So what about Banner?

There has been rumor/speculation/theory flying around the net for some time that the Hulk will get jettisoned to space leading to “Planet Hulk.” At one time, the Hulk was even rumored to be a part of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (which James Gunn shot down). The current theory is that following the events in Avengers 2, Hulk gets sent to space, which – similar to the comics – would leave the Green Goliath absent from Civil War

While Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige did say that they aren’t adapting the “Planet Hulk” storyline anytime soon, Mark Ruffalo recently spoke with IGN about the idea.

“I think there’s a lot of places to go with him [Hulk]. Well he’s going to space. Yeah, I mean there’s some talk of maybe Planet Hulk. I’d be completely interested in entertaining that.”

While Ruffalo states the Hulk is going to space, it seems from the context of the interview that the statement is to be read more as a sarcastic remark.

With the Hulk seemingly not being a part of the other movies (or at least not announced as of yet), it also begs the question whether or not the Hulk will be a part of The Avengers: Infinity War movies, with Part II coming out in 2019. Certainly, they are not going to put the Hulk on the backburner for the next few years? Or are they?

I’m actually wondering if they are going to skip the “Planet Hulk” story altogether, and just have the Hulk arrive back on Earth with his Warbound declaring “World War Hulk,” perhaps following The Avengers 4 and go from there.

Kevin Feige Confirms Peter Parker Is Spider-Man (Video)

While promoting The Avengers 2, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige discusses Spider-Man.

Feige is in part responsible for bringing Spider-Man to the MCU as well as is a producer on the upcoming standalone Spider-Man movie from Sony in 2017.

Feige not only confirms Spider-Man will be Peter Parker, but also confirms the new Spider-Man will be in high school.

“We want to play with Spider-Man in the high school years,” Feige says in the above video. “Because, frankly, there have been five Spider-Man films and the amazing thing about it, is even though there have been five Spider-Man films, there is so many things from the comics that haven’t been done, yet. Not just characters or villains or supporting characters, but sides to his character. The most obvious being sort of the young-doesn’t-quite-fit-in-kid before his powers, and then the fellow that puts on a mask and swings around and fights bad guys, and doesn’t shut up [laughs]. Which is something we want to play with, and we are excited about, but also I think it was midway through the first film, he graduated high school. The beginning of the second Marc Webb film, he graduated high school. Some of my favorite Spider-Man arcs and Spider-Man stories –  he’s in highschool for a lot of it, and we want to explore that. That also makes him very, very different from any of our other characters in the MCU -which is something else we want to explore – is how unique he is in now put against all these other characters. In terms of the age of an actor we’ll eventually cast, I don’t know. In terms of the age who we believe Peter Parker is, I would say close to 15-16 is right.”

Spider-Man is also heavily speculated to be appearing in Captain America: Civil War, which debuts May 2016.

Update: Feige also confirms a re-designed Spider-Man costume and no origin.

Fast & Furious 7’s James Wan Wanted For Aquaman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19995:]]

It’s reported James Wan is WB’s top choice to direct the Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa.

THR reports that hot off the heels of the of Fast & Furious 7‘s $500 million debut, Warner Bros. is in preliminary talks with Wan.

It’s said there is no offer on the table, but the hope is in choosing Wan that the director would bring both critical and financial success to Aquaman.

It’s unknown if Wan would be able to find time to direct Aquaman as Wan may potentially direct the Fast & Furious 7 sequel and has The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist in the pipeline as well.

WB wants someone like James Wan to bring a more serious approach to Aquaman, whom has been the butt of jokes amongst fans for decades. We see that WB is pretty serious about the character by choosing Momoa as well.

Jason Momoa will first appear in Batman Vs . Superman before Aquaman and will be a part of the two Justice League movies.

Aquaman is due in 2018 with two separate scripts being written by Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad, respectively.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:19977:]]

The LEGO Movie writers and directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, are developing The Flash movie for Warner Bros.

Deadline reports Lord and Miller are working behind the scenes developing the story and currently working on a treatment.

It’s stated it’s unknown if the duo will direct The Flash.

It’s also stated that Lord and Miller’s The Flash will “take on a totally different dimension” than the 1940s character or the small-screen interpretations.

What exactly that entails is also unknown, but a different take on The Flash is already speculated as Ezra Miller has been cast as the DC movie universe Speedster.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller also directed the Jump Street movies for Sony as well as wrote and produced the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs animated films and are involved with the LEGO Batman movie spinoff.

The Flash has a 2018 release and is expected in the 2017 Justice League movie.
