Rambo Inspired Sylvester Stallone To Join Guardians of the Galaxy & MCU

If you grew up in the 80s, First Blood was a big part of your childhood!

What kid didn’t go around pretending to be Rambo with a machine gun and a bandanna tied around their head?!

I know we all did!

While speaking at a recent press event in Beverly Hills, Sylvester Stallone offers up his character, Rambo, was in part responsible for him joining the MCU and Guardians of the Galaxy 2.Ā Stallone offers (via Inside The Magic):

ā€œEarly on in my career I became fascinated with mythology. Joseph Campbell’s ā€œHero with a Thousand Faces,ā€ and so on and so forth. When I started doing ā€œRambo,ā€ [I came to understand] there’s an evolution that takes place. Every generation has to find itself, define its own heroes, define its own mythology. And [the MCU] is this generation’s– and maybe even the next generation’s– mythology. And when Kevin invited me on board I said, ā€˜This is interesting because I haven’t gone here. I’m kind of Earth-bound. I’m terrestrial. This is something that takes place in a whole other sphere where James and the Marvel people have created their own world, their own reality.ā€

So I said, ā€˜Yeah, let me visit. Let me drop in here and see what’s up, where the future is going.’ And it was great. It got me out of the house [away] from my three daughters. And that’s why I gave them my salary back.ā€

Speaking of the future, director James Gunn also recently said Sylvester Stallone has a future part of the Marvel COSMIC Universe!Ā

Sylvester Stallone also spoke about his Guardians of the Galaxy 2 character here (warning: spoilers).Ā

ā€œGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2ā€ has a May 5, 2017 release directed by James Gunn starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn.Ā New cast members include Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.

Synopsis:

Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, ā€œGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2ā€ continues the team’s adventures as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage.
