Evans & Renner In The Hot Seat Following Black Widow “Slut” & “Whore” Jokes

Perhaps the press tour for The Avengers 2 has gone on just a little too long (for both the actors and the fans).

Just the other day saw Robert Downey Jr. walk out an interview, and now both Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner are in the hot seat.

Evans, who plays Captain America, and Renner, who plays Hawkeye, both participated in an interview with the Digital Spy (watch above).

When it was brought up that fans’ had hoped Black Widow would have been linked romantically to either one of their characters, Renner responded with a straight face, “She’s a slut.”

Evans laughed and agreed with him saying, “I was going to say something along that line… a complete whore.”

Renner then added, “Trick, man.” With Evans laughing about “she’s a slut.”

The interviewer – who is female – then went with it and and added, “Whatever movie it is, she’ll be just the sidekick. She’ll be flirting away…”

“That’s right,” Renner agreed.

“Just flirting with everybody,” Evans said.

“She has a prosthetic leg anyway,” Renner said.

“Leading everybody on,” joked Evans, with the interviewer laughing along with them.

Note: The remarks were not made about Scarlett Johansson, but about the fictional Marvel character Black Widow. However, that didn’t deter fans as many took to social networks to voice their dissatisfaction for the Avengers actors’ behavior.

Evans has since apologized as his rep sent USA Today the following:

“Yesterday we were asked about the rumors Black Widow wanted to be in a relationship with both Hawkeye and Captain America. We answered in a juvenile and offensive way that rightfully angered some fans. I regret it and sincerely apologize.”

Update: Renner also released the following:

“I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone. It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour.”

Watch: Man Of Steel Superman’s Costume In Brighter Color

One of the complaints regarding Man Of Steel was Zack Snyder’s decision to go with a more “colorless” version of the film and in particular the Superman suit.

Fans have already colorized the Henry Cavill Superman suit, and even Batman Vs. Superman set images have seemingly revealed a brighter-colored suit.

Now the VideoLab YouTube channel has actually re-colored footage from Man of Steel and put together the above video.

Depending how you felt about Man of Steel, the brighter colors may or may not have made much of a difference as the movie was a bit dark in nature and Superman still snaps necks at the end of the movie.

Whedon Says Lots Of Deleted Scenes On The Avengers 2 Blu-Ray; Talks Vision

The Avengers 2 was rumored at one time to be around 3 hours, with the rough cut probably at least four hours long.

It would be a shame for all that footage to go unnoticed, but fear not as Joss Whedon lets it be known there will be a lot of deleted scenes once The Avengers 2 Blu-Ray is released.

“There will be very many scenes on the DVD,” Whedon stated in the above interview. “I think ultimately I might argue one or two little things I would have liked to put in the movie, but generally, most of them belong on the DVD. And people will see why, but I am still proud of them, and people will see why we had them in the first place. It’s not one of those things where it’s the Director’s Cut. This is the movie.”

Watch more from Whedon above talking Paul Bettany and the Vision.

Joss Whedon Talks Why Planet Hulk Might Not Work

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20190:]]

A Planet Hulk movie is currently all the rage amongst the online chatter.

The comic book storyline saw Marvel heroes trick the Hulk into space in a plan to maroon the Green Goliath on a planet where he would no longer be bothered and would no longer bother anyone else. The only problem is that instead of going to the planet, the Hulk goes through a wormhole and ends up a slave on the planet Sakaar.

Now Joss Whedon weighs in on a potential Planet Hulk movie with IGN offering it would be really expensive and at the same time says a Hulk movie should be more grounded and center around Banner. The Planet Hulk comic storyline featured virtually none of Banner as the Planet Sakaar was considered too dangerous for the puny Banner to survive so they remained in Hulk form.

It absolutely could be put onscreen. I don’t know if it should. I think part of what makes the Hulk great is the world around him and the Banner of it. And it would be mad expensive as well. I think if they were going to do a Hulk movie, they’d want to keep it more grounded.

Regarding the comment of Planet Hulk not featuring Banner, which Feige has also mentioned, obviously the movie could just be a different adaptation with more Banner elements added to the film.

Whedon also talks about the Hulk in both of his Avengers movies and offers his take on two different versions of the Hulk. Warning: There is a slight spoiler.

“I always think that there are basically two Hulks. There’s horror movie Hulk and superhero movie Hulk. In the first film we got a taste of both and it really has to do with Banner’s attitude about who he is when he turns into the Hulk. And since the movie begins with the team together, the first thing we see is superhero Hulk, who has a level of cogency that makes him still useful and he isn’t just swatting things madly. But then, once the Scarlet Witch gets done with him, we get to see a vision of him that we have never seen before where he is completely out of control. And also clearly in a lot of pain. It was kind of beautiful to be able to go that far with him.”

Whedon mentions the legal issues surrounding a Hulk solo movie as well as that Hulk is essentially not a classic superhero comparing the Hulk to a werewolf story (interesting enough, the Gray Hulk in the comics transforms at night and is strongest during a New Moon – because of less sunlight – and weakest during the Full Moon – because of the strong reflection of the sun’s light).

“Honestly I think it’s a legal thing. I think it’s because there’s other studio rights and this and that. It’s difficult. Hulk movies are very difficult because it isn’t a classic superhero story. It is more of a werewolf story, and finding a way to thread both of those makes if difficult. But I think it has more to do with the boring issues… because they love the Hulk and they love Mark as much as I do.”

Recently, both Whedon and Ruffalo seemed to tease the future of the Hulk, with Whedon stating it’s going to be “amazing.”

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” has  May 1, 2015 release.

Joss Whedon Still Considers Coulson Dead

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20189:]]

Coulson Lives!

Well, not according to director Joss Whedon who was responsible for killing off Agent Phil Coulson in The Avengers movie. Speaking with the UK’s mentalfloss.com, Whedon lets it be known that Marvel TV was responsible for bringing back Coulson, but almost seems to say that the movies and TV have different continuity, and that he still considers Coulson as being dead.

Whedon says Marvel TV brought Coulson back.

A lot of people come back in The Winter Soldier. It’s a grand Marvel tradition. Bucky was supposed to die. And the Coulson thing was, I think, a little anomalous just because that really came from the television division, which is sort of considered to be its own subsection of the Marvel universe.

Whedon says for the continuity of the movies, Coulson is still considered dead:

As far as the fiction of the movies, Coulson is dead.

Says he wasn’t happy that Coulson came back as it takes away from The Avengers movie:

But I have to say, watching the first one with my kids—I had not watched the first one since it came out—and then watching it with my kids and watching Coulson die but [thinking], “Yeah, but I know that he kind of isn’t,” it did take some of the punch out of it for me. Of course, I spent a lot of time making sure he didn’t.

Whedon offers there is no reference to Coulson’s death in Avengers 2:

And at the time it seemed inoffensive, as long as it wasn’t referenced in the second movie, which it isn’t.

Whedon feels that without death or loss during these great conflicts, they don’t come off as being real or sincere:

There’s a thing where you can do that so many times and there’s nothing at stake. But it’s difficult because you’re living in franchise world—not just Marvel, but in most big films—where you can’t kill anyone, or anybody significant. And now I find myself with a huge crew of people and, although I’m not as bloodthirsty as some people like to pretend, I think it’s disingenuous to say we’re going to fight this great battle, but there’s not going to be any loss.

Whedon does offer he is fine with it and is happy to leave it up to the fans:

So my feeling in these situations with Marvel is that if somebody has to be placed on the altar and sacrificed, I’ll let you guys decide if they stay there.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” has a May 1st release.

Robert Downey Jr. & Avengers 2 Cast Respond to Birdman’s Director’s Criticism (Video)

Check out the above video where Robert Downey Jr. and the cast of Avengers 2 respond to criticisms made by the director of Birdman, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

If you are not familiar with Inarritu’s comments, the director stated superhero films are “cultural genocide” and “right wing.” Here’s the blub from the Deadline interview:

I sometimes enjoy them because they are basic and simple and go well with popcorn. The problem is that sometimes they purport to be profound, based on some Greek mythological kind of thing. And they are honestly very right wing. I always see them as killing people because they do not believe in what you believe, or they are not being who you want them to be. I hate that, and don’t respond to those characters. They have been poison, this cultural genocide, because the audience is so overexposed to plot and explosions and shit that doesn’t mean nothing about the experience of being human.

That’s what I am saying. Superheroes…just the word hero bothers me. What the fuck does that mean? It’s a false, misleading conception, the superhero. Then, the way they apply violence to it, it’s absolutely right wing. If you observe the mentality of most of those films, it’s really about people who are rich, who have power, who will do the good, who will kill the bad. Philosophically, I just don’t like them.

“The Avengers 2” hits May 1st.

Joss Whedon & The Avengers Talk Batman Vs. Superman (Video)

With the release of the new Batman Vs. Superman trailer, Yahoo asked Joss Whedon, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner about their thoughts on the trailer and heroes vs. heroes.

Evans and Renner haven’t seen the trailer,, but the two went on to make fun of Superman as being too powerful of a character.

“How does anyone fight Superman?” asked Evans.

With Renner adding, “I know, that’s what I don’t get. What are you going to do with a Bat-belt?”

“I feel like [Superman] would bulldoze our whole squad, they really wrote him unfairly. It’s not fair, he’s got too much,” Evans said.

Whedon did see the Batman Vs. Superman trailer and offered he can understand why hero would fight against hero and says he is really excited for the movie.

“I found [the trailer for ‘Batman v Superman’] interesting,” Whedon offered. “Because they’re bringing up a lot of issues that we bring up in Age of Ultron and I think it’s inevitable. People with power, who are good, do not always agree and it makes perfect sense for me that [Batman and Superman] would fight. And besides… Batman and Superman are gonna fight! I’m so excited! I’m so excited!”

The Avengers 2” hits May 1st; “Batman Vs. Superman” has a March 26, 2016 release.

Watch: Robert Downey Jr. Walks Out On Interview

This is a big-time a-hole move on the part of the interviewer.

Watch above as Robert Downey Jr. participates in an interview promoting The Avengers 2.

The interviewer mentions RDJ is here to promote the movie, but then asks if he can ask about RDJ personally.

We see that RDJ gets rather uncomfortable and looks over to (whom I am guessing) is his publicist or PR person (who should have stopped the interview right there).

RDJ replies to the interviewer he has as much time as anyone, with the interviewer remarking they have 3 minutes left on their agreed upon time allotment.

The interviewer then asks Robert Downey Jr. about his past with drugs and alcohol – and asks if he is free of all of that.

The camera even zooms in on RDJ’s face as we see RDJ getting obviously more and more uncomfortable.

Robert Downey Jr. then questions – “what are we doing?” – and ends the interview.

It is a rather d— move on the part of the interviewer. Sure, you can argue he can ask whatever he wants, but these type of interviews are set-up beforehand and used for promotional purposes. We even see the interviewer mention the purpose of the interview is for promoting the movie, and they had a specified amount of time. Notice how the cameraman recognizes how uncomfortable RDJ is getting as he zooms in on his face at that moment? I believe the interviewer is known for being a d—-bag and had run-ins with Tarantino and Godfrey Bloom; RDJ and his people maybe should have skipped this guy.

The interviewer, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, does, however, claim on Twitter they discussed the questioning with RDJ’s PR people stating, “We’d told the PR we’d like to talk about the movie and his life.”

Obviously “life” could mean a whole hell of a lot.
