The Resident Evil franchise is getting rebooted with James Wan.

Deadline reports James Wan has signed on board the first of the Resident Evil reboots as a producer, with a script from Greg Russo, who is also involved with Wan in writing the new Mortal Kombat and Robotech movies.

It’s further reported the Resident Evil reboot will have a new cast.

James Wan is known for The Conjuring and Insidious movies and is also directing Aquaman for WB.

The Resident Evil movies are based on the video games of the same name, with the film franchise kicking off back in 2002 from Paul W.S. Anderson starring Milla Jovovich. The most recent movie, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, grossed over $312 million and did exceptionally well in China. The six Resident Evil movies have brought in over $1.2 billion.

Variety reports Paul W.S. Anderson’s involvement in the new Resident Evil reboot is open to question as he is going to start work on another video game adaptation with Monster Hunter.
