X-Men: Apocalypse Stan Lee Cameo Spoiler

Slight spoiler for Stan Lee’s cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Stan Lee previously made it be known his upcoming cameo in X-Men: Apocalypse will be different than any of his previous cameos because he did it with someone very special to him.

It’s now known who that very special person is: Stan Lee’s wife Joan.

“X-Men: Apocalypse” has a May 27, 2016 release directed by Bryan Singer starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Olivia Munn, Lucas Till, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Josh Helman, Lana Condor & Ben Hardy.

Synopsis:

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

MCU Rumors Include: Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers Infinity War & More

A batch of rumors regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have hit the net, which includes Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: RagnaorkDoctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther and more.

I took a quick glace, and some of them are news already known or speculated about, but it’s still fun to check out.

I think these come from 4chan (via reddit):

Mads Mikkelsen is playing Dr. Anthony Druid in DOCTOR STRANGE. He’s the main villain. Amy Landecker and Scott Adkins are playing his followers. Michael Stuhlbarg is playing a LHC scientist who assists Doctor Druid. Dormammu is referenced.

Kurt Russell is playing Stakar in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. He’s Star-Lord’s father and the main villain. Secondary villains include Tullk and Taserface. Ego, the Living Planet, will appear, and they’re scouting high-profile actors to voice him.

Sylvester Stallone, Sharon Stone and Christopher Lloyd have minor roles in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2.

The main villains of SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING are Norman Osborn and the Vulture, with appearances by Spencer Smythe and Miles Warren.

Michael Keaton was approached to play Osborn, but declined because he didn’t want to commit to a multi-picture contract. Other actors are now being approached, including Jason Clarke and Dougray Scott.

Mark Rylance has been approached about playing the Vulture and Gary Oldman is in negotiations to play Smythe. Andrew McCarthy is in early talks to play Warren.

Peter won’t have a prominent love interest in the first movie, although he will have a crush on Liz Allan, who is being played by Laura Harrier. Flash Thompson will also appear, with Blake Jenner in talks to play him. Daniel Zovatto and Charlie Rowe are in talks to play Harry Osborn.

THOR: RAGNAROK will feature Cate Blanchett as Hela and Surtur will be unleashed in the third actor. Josh Brolin will have an appearance as Thanos that leads directly into AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

Tessa Thompson is indeed playing Broomhilde, the warrior valkyrie. She is Thor’s new romantic interest. It will be established Thor and Jane Foster’s relationship ended on amicable terms due to his responsabilities as the guardian of the Nine Realms preventing them from committing to a life together.

Villains of BLACK PANTHER are High Priest Achebe, Ulysses Klaue and M’Baku. Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Klaw. Martin Freeman is also reprising his role as Everett Ross.

Black Panther’s love interest will be Monica Lynne, reinvented as a political envoy employed by Ross. Other supporting characters are Shuri, T’Challa’s sister; N’Gassi, the royal advisor; Okoye, the leader of the Dora Milaje; Adenbi, Achebe’s loyal follower; and Jack Truman, Lynne’s handler.

Casting is still in early stages, but Marvel has already named Michael Jai White as one of the frontrunners for M’Baku, and had meetings with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nicole Beharie, Yaya DaCosta and Sharol Leal for the lead female roles, either Lynne or Shuri or both.

Carol Danvers will appear in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR before CAPTAIN MARVEL, and Emily Blunt is lined up to play her. Emily Carmichel in talks to direct.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 will be renamed. First draft has recently been delivered. Apparently set on Earth and centered on the assembly of the Infinity Gauntlet.

CAPTAIN MARVEL will feature the Kree as villains. Not much is set.

ANT-MAN & THE WASP will feature the return of Janet Van Dyne and Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne fighting an old enemy of Hank Pym’s past familiar with the Quantum Realm, but his identity hasn’t yet been determined.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 2 will be set in Space and feature the final battle against Thanos.

INHUMANS will most likely be scrapped.

Chris Evans is expected to renew his contract for more CAPTAIN AMERICA movies in Phase 4. Robert Downey Jr., however, is not. although there’s renewed interest in IRON MAN 4 lately.

Sequels for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, DOCTOR STRANGE, BLACK PANTHER and SPIDER-MAN already in discussions. They’re being optimistic, but more reserved with CAPTAIN MARVEL.

SECRET INVASION and SIEGE are popular storylines that are being considered as overarching storylines of Phase 4 and beyond.

There is a plan for the potential return of the Fantastic Four to the MCU. However, there are no contigencies for the X-Men, which are unlikely to ever return. There is interest in Namor, too.

There is interest in the Sentry, Spider-Woman, Hercules, Photon, Nova. the Young Avengers and the Thunderbolts for Phase 4 and beyond.

Blade, Moon Knight and Ghost Rider are being lined-up for Netflix shows.

BLACK WIDOW is actually of interest, but likely won’t happen in phase 3. Likewise, there’s been debate about a standalone WINTER SOLDIER movie.

There’s a running gag about producing a Supreme Squadron movie, but chances of it actually happening are virtually zero.

Ben Affleck Said To Be Working On Justice League Rewrites

A couple of days ago saw it revealed that Ben Affleck has been named as an executive producer on the Justice League movie.

It was reported that Ben Affleck “will work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be.”

Now it’s learned that some of Affleck’s duties will be to help rewrite the Justice League script (which is currently filming).

While Forbes is spinning the news that Affleck is simply helping out to get the Justice League script more in tune with his Batman solo movie, I’m guessing it has more to do with the trainwreck of a script that was Batman Vs. Superman (and of course the negative reviews, reactions and poor box office performance).

While Terrio might be an Oscar award-winning Hollywood screenplay writer, his Batman Vs. Superman script was a complete disaster. Now whether that’s Terrio’s fault, Snyder’s fault or David Goyer’s fault is anyone’s guess (or all three), the fact is Terrio never read a comic book in his life prior to writing Batman Vs. Superman, and Terrio is said to have at least written the new and younger Lex Luthor, which a lot of fans loathed.

So it’s definitely a good thing Ben Affleck is coming on board to offer his two cents on Justice League. Affleck also co-wrote the upcoming solo Batman movie with DC Entertainment chief creative officer and comic book writer Geoff Johns. It’s assumed Affleck will direct the solo Batman movie as well.

Affleck is also currently in the UK with his family for the filming of Justice League.

“Justice League” has a November 17, 2017 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon and Willem Dafoe in an unknown role.

Captain America: Civil War Scores Fifth Highest Opening At Box Office

Estimates are pegging Captain America: Civil War with the fifth highest opening off all time at the domestic box office.

While Captain America: Civil War didn’t hit the $200 million mark, it did bring in $181.8 million for its opening weekend, which is a tad bit lower than some of the estimates of $188 million, but obviously nothing to complain about.

Captain America: Civil War also scored a huge international box office gross with $496 million.

To date, Captain America: Civil War has already amassed $678,391,000 million worldwide.

For those keeping track of the Batman Vs. Superman box office comparisons (opened $166 million), Batman Vs. Superman beat Captain America: Civil War in its Thursday and Friday screenings, but Civil War is estimated to come out on top for Saturday and Sunday.

And if you are wondering, the top four grossing movies for opening weekends goes to:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens  ($247.996m)
Jurassic World  ($208.806m)
The Avengers  ($207.438m)
The Avengers 2  ($191.271m)

“Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Review: Captain America: Civil War

Ultimate Victory

A Film Review of Captain America: Civil War

There are event films and then there are EVENT FILMS.  So many studios own so many licenses and they all want to convert them into license-to-print-money franchises and most of them fail to reach that threshold because the studios want their cash back and then some ASAP.  Phenomena like Star Wars (for instance) don’t just happen overnight and these types of cinematic universes require multiple, high quality entries to build legacy.  As we look back to the beginning of these Avengers films, few could have predicted that the first Iron Man could have set the stage for the immense and ever growing success of this franchise as a whole.  Even super-producer Kevin Feige, the man most singularly responsible for making these films reality, could not have predicted this kind of windfall even if he was gifted with infinite resources and unrivaled decision making power.  The latest entry in Marvel Studios’ amazing galaxy of super-people represents a new pinnacle for what these films can accomplish in the entertainment industry.  The genre is not about cookie-cut-outs in cheesy costumes playing hyper stereotypes in fictional scenarios anymore.

Of course, no film is without flaws and this film did have some practical difficulties.  To begin, I saw this movie in IMAX 3D, and I must say that I do not recommend anyone to experience this film in that format.  There seemed to be frame rate issues from the opening action sequences that my eyes never fully adjusted to even by the film’s end.  I don’t know if the reason for this is because I wear glasses and placing the (rather uncomfortable) IMAX 3D glasses on top of them causes too much distortion for my eyes to process as smooth motion or the rotoscoping effect the filmmakers used inside the frame to enhance the already hectic action.  Either way, I found it physically uncomfortable to process all the action on such a large screen with 3D that I would recommend standard screenings (editor’s note: we noticed frame rate issues in 2D as well)

Second, a runtime of 2 hours and 27 minutes seems about standard for epic blockbusters these days, but that doesn’t make it any less of a challenge to sit through despite even this film’s excellent effort at balanced pacing.  Obvious tips like “don’t drink too much soda” and “go to theaters with comfortable seats” helps with every cinematic adventure, but I would also add “don’t see this at the end of a busy work day.”  Third, there is a ton of content in this film to process.  Without at least a cursory following of the Iron Man and Avengers (proper) films, Civil War can be difficult (but still enjoyable) to follow and only the most devoted fans that have seen every satellite installment will connect all the dots.

Captain America: Civil War is a chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe primarily interested in expansion.  The Avengers’ roster of super-people has grown and thus, its ability to intercede anywhere on the planet has become unprecedented.  With Hydra in shambles and other nefarious individuals causing trouble off-planet, the only conflict currently posing a challenge to this new global power is itself.  This presents a convenient opportunity for the movie to spend an inordinate percentage of its total runtime on character development rather than presenting another single-serving antagonist to punch in the face.  As such, every single hero has a moment to shine both in drama and in combat all while introducing two brand new and pivotal characters to the franchise in Black Panther and Spider-Man.

Normally, this type of film buckles under the pressure of accomplishing so much in so little time resulting in abandoned characters and abbreviated subplots, but those films also had a “big bad” to wrap up by the end.  Civil War has no such task and this film’s story yields fragmentation and uncertainty; a recession if you will for an organization representing the pinnacle of human endeavor.  Some may see this overarching plot as dull and unproductive, but it demonstrates a maturity in its self-criticism of the inevitable fallout that occurs when heroes save the day.

Action Style

There’s so many different styles of action to make note of.  We begin with high speed vehicular chases bridging to firearm combat to fisticuffs to super-powered stunt work and then Spider-Man does what a spider can on top.  There’s almost something for just about everyone who likes action.

5/6

Action Frame

Granted, the dynamic cinematography on display throughout is thanks most in part to frames compiled purely in a computer, but they had to be conceived by someone and the frame is anything but static.

4/5

Lead Performance

Almost everyone qualifies as a lead and not one single person phones it in.  Chadwick Boseman is impressive in his debut as T’Challa/Black Panther.  Anthony Mackie continues to exude pure charisma as Sam Wilson/Falcon.  Scarlett Johansson is reliably unpredictable as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan’s intensity is unrivaled as Bucky/Winter Soldier, everybody likes Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man, Elizabeth Olsen shows a more tender side to her Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany continues mystify as the Vision, Jeremy Renner brings the all important sarcastic laughs, Don Cheadle produces a fine rationalist perspective and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man brings great hope for the future of his satellite franchise as well as the importance of his character in the grand scheme of things moving forward.  Amidst all these fine performances it is easy to overlook our diametrically opposed protagonists: Chris Evans as Captain America and Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.  Evans once again channels the tempered idealist from the classic white knight archetype while Downey discovers a new level of concern and despair for Tony Stark that has transplanted Stark’s signature attitude with something more dire and serious.

6/6

Supporting Performance

Not to be outdone by a healthy contingent of leads, the supporting roles effectively round out a brilliantly assembled cast.  William Hurt’s Thunderbolt Ross is a prototypical authoritarian without coming off as whimsically maniacal.  John Kani’s King T’Chaka is absolutely brilliant in virtually no screen time.  Emily VanCamp continues to add credibility to her Sharon Carter.  Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo may not have been a physical, mental or phsycological match for the heroes, but no one could argue with his motivations and his ability to convey his character’s despair makes him Marvel’s most effective villain since Loki.

4/5

Music

Acceptable, but not quite iconic enough.  My favorite soundtrack moments were those stylized instrumental screeches signifying Winter Soldier activity.

4/6

Sound F/X

Sharp.  Clean.  Diverse.  Creative.  No complaints whatsoever.

5/5

“Moving” = 28/33

Digital F/X

These films exist to deliver top mark CG and the fusion with live action is all but seamless.  Surprise, surprise, these moments peak at the battle royale among our heroes showcasing everyone’s abilities in an explosion of visual brilliance.

6/6

Special F/X

With so many computer generated imagery flying about the screen simple pyro, wall crumbles and explosions pale in comparison.

3/5

Costumes

Every hero looks as great as they have in their respective films while the new Black Panther is much more ornate than film trailers make him and Spider-Man’s costume is a welcome classic configuration.

5/6

Hair & Makeup

Well done, but nothing exceptional being accomplished here.

3/5

Exteriors

An exceptional collection of diverse locales representing very different parts of the world.

5/6

Interiors

These also do no not fail to impress as the futuristic tech of Avengers’ facilities contrasts quite well with more mundane government facilities and even more average settings such as obscure apartment spaces in Queens.

4/5

“Picture” = 26/33

Hook

The Avengers may be the newest superpower in the world, but they are beyond perfect and not above the machinations of those who wish to control them as agents of some prescribed agenda.

4/4

Conflict

Heroes have been beating each other up in the comics for many years thanks to underdeveloped villains, but their live-action counterparts now going through the same motions adds to the realism because even people of supernatural ability are bound to disagree with the fundamentals of what they do and who they are.

3/4

Resolution

Agreeing to disagree is as open ended (or non-existent) as resolutions come, but it also leaves the audience in an uncertain and uncomfortable place regardless of whether they were on #teamironman or #teamcaptainamerica.

2/4

Dialogue

For all the characters that already know each other, their natural speak and camaraderie shines through.  For newcomers Black Panther and Spider-Man, their fresh takes and commentary are well placed, justified and completely in character.

5/6

Exposition

With so many MCU films in the can, the only real exposition required are the one or two films that preceded it.  A couple of expository sequences early in this film attempt to bring everyone up to speed, but every Marvel movie from this point forward cannot be relied upon for a thorough rehash at some point in every first act.  Also, more probably could have been done to flesh out the antagonist’s perspective, motivation and methods.

2/5

Character Uniqueness

Black Panther and Spider-Man provide some welcome new blood, but I am even more impressed with Tony Stark’s shift back towards the establishment as it shows that even a man of his infinite ego is not beyond an ever growing sense of guilt over his inability to solve every problem.  Then again, it is almost as surprising for Steve Rogers to take the path he chooses after his insider information is revealed.

5/6

Character Relatability

Not to continue beating a dead horse, but once again, Black Panther and Spider-Man provide the perfect gateway for all viewers to get in on the ground floor in terms of connecting with these super-people.  Vengeance and the desire to please/impress are powerful and commonplace motives that most can identify with.  Still, these people can bench press cars and we did just meet them.

3/5

“Story” = 24/34

Overall MPS Rating:  78/100

Captain America: Civil Waris as entertaining as special effect blockbusters featuring larger than life spectacles come.  Kevin Feige and whoever else he considers his brain trust at Marvel Studios continue to prove they know how to make spectacular comic book adaptations.  They have also proved they know who else to trust with their most prized licenses with the Russo Brothers directing their first Avengers film and absolutely delivered the goods.  This installment also happens to be its darkest not because it coats the frame in black, but for people that have this kind of ultimate power, their worst enemy is what they see in the mirror; that is until Thanos reveals himself to Earth’s mightiest heroes.

P.S.  I found it interesting that the directors of Infinity War Parts 1 and 2 did not deliver even a hint of Infinity Stones, Thanos or anything else even remotely cosmic to parallel the chaos on Earth with the chaos amassing in the cosmos.  It is a bit disappointing, but not entirely soul-crushing.

“I am going to do a Marvel movie,” Sharon Stone told James Corden. “I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”

Sharon Stone starred with Michael Douglas back in 1992 on Basic Instinct. It’s possible Stone may reunite with Douglas on the sequel to Ant-Man as the “wee” part could be a reference to Janet Van Dyne who got lost in the quantum realm as a result of shrinking too much. Michael Douglas plays Hank Pym.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” has a July 8, 2016 release starring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly.

Marvel Almost Sold Rights To Captain America & Thor

It’s learned back in the Marvel bankruptcy days, that the licenses for Captain America and Thor were almost sold off to other studios.

THR has an article taking a look inside Marvel from the perspective of former Marvel president and chief operating officer David Maisel, who, like a lot of people, you probably haven’t heard of. Maisel is behind the upcoming Angry Birds movie.

Among some of the highlights:

Maisel was in part responsible for selling Marvel to Disney at a value of $4 billion.

It’s said Maisel was responsible for the Marvel-method of movies, which he borrowed the idea from George Lucas and Star Wars.

Maisel put the stop on selling Captain America to Warner Bros. and Thor to Sony, noting: “If I had gotten there three months, six months later, those deals would have been done,” he says. “And there would be no chance to bring all these characters together.”

Maisel was behind releasing the direct to DVD Avengers and Iron Man movies as a way of showing people there was a value to the products:  “It allowed me to say to people: ‘Look at the value of our IP. Here’s someone paying all the money, and we have creative control and get half the profits,’ ” says Maisel.

Ike Perlmutter (who Kevin Feige recently had booted from being involved with the movies) gave Maisel the go ahead for Iron Man as long as Marvel didn’t have to put up a dime.

Maisel is said to have had tensions with Spider-Man producer and former Marvel Studios CEO Avi Arad (Feige also booted Arad from any involvement in the new Tom Holland Spider-Man movies). Arad is said to have left Marvel and sold his stock for around $20 a share (Disney ended up purchasing Marvel for $51 a share).

Regarding the 2008 Iron Man movie, the board of Marvel is said to have been just happy enough to break even on the movie, but more excited for toy sales: “Don’t worry. We’ll be very happy if this breaks even and we can sell more toys.” Iron Man went on to gross $585 million worldwide.

Maisel made a deal with Universal Studios where Marvel would get the rights to the Hulk back, but Universal would be able to distribute any Hulk solo movie (which is why there is no new Hulk movie since). Universal would have no rights and receive nothing if Hulk appeared in other films (i.e. The Avengers happened).

February of 2009 saw Maisel meet with Disney’s Bob Iger. Maisel set up a meeting between Iger and Ike Perlmutter. Six month later Marvel was sold to Disney for $4 billion, ten times what Marvel was worth when Maisel started at Marvel.

Ghostbusters Director Paul Feig Calls Geek Fans A-Holes

Ghostbusters reboot director Paul Feig is back at it — cussing at the internet fans.

Feig previously told Ghostbusters reboot “trolls” to go f’ themselves, and now offers more.

“Geek culture is home to some of the biggest a-holes I’ve ever met in my life,” Feig told the Daily News. “Especially after being attacked by them for months because of this ‘Ghostbusters’ project.”

Feig is probably also upset by the fact that the Ghostbusters reboot trailer is the most disliked movie trailer on the internet ever. Even Melissa McCarthy wasn’t a fan.

I’ll also add, in defense of the “trolls,” that a lot of fans are simply upset by fact that the original Ghostbusters movie is getting remade and their beloved characters replaced, not just because the reboot features females.

It will be interesting to see how well or not the movie performs at the box office this Summer, something which Feig can thank the internet fans for, eh?

“Ghostbusters” has a July 15 2016 release directed by Paul Feig also starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Charles Dance and Michael Kenneth Williams.

Synopsis:

Ghostbusters makes its long-awaited return, rebooted with a cast of hilarious new characters. Thirty years after the beloved original franchise took the world by storm, director Paul Feig brings his fresh take to the supernatural comedy, joined by some of the funniest actors working today – Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth. This summer, they’re here to save the world!

Batman Vs. Superman Bat Crypt Creature Concept Art & Figure Revealed

Check out concept art of the “Bat Creature” from the Wayne Family Crypt scene in Batman Vs. Superman as well as the DC Comics Multiverse action figure.

The text on the concept art reads:

The nearby family crypt containing the remains of his parents, Thomas and Martha, is also in a similar state of neglect. It is a reminder of the night they were murdered, when the three of them went into the city to take in a movie. The loss of his parents at such an early age was the impetus for his crime-fighting career, but that event still has the power to invade his sleep with nightmarish visions, all these years later.

Looks a bit like Man-Bat, too.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Ray Fisher as Cyborg with Callan Mulvey, Holly Hunter as Senator Finch and Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves. J

Synopsis:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Ben Affleck Named Executive Producer On Justice League Movie

More than likely as a result of the lackluster performace and reviews for Batman Vs. Superman, Ben Affleck has now come on board the Justice League movie as executive producer.

Deadline reports Ben Affleck “will work with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio behind the scenes to make the film the best it can be.”

The article also notes: “Affleck is doing this to be supportive of Snyder, with whom he worked well on Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” and also that: “Warner Bros is still figuring out its stylistic superhero mojo, and Affleck will help.”

Affleck is also co-writing, directing and starring in the upcoming standalone Batman movie.

Batman Vs. Superman has grossed $864 million, which is shy of the $900 million needed for the movie to take a profit and well shy of the magic billion dollar number WB was hoping for.

There have been a lot of rumors and controversy as of late surrounding Zack Snyder and Batman Vs. Superman ranging from comic book professionals telling Snyder FU, to The Flash losing its director, to the panic button being hit.

Kevin Feige Comments On Captain America: Civil War Mid-Credit Scene

SPOILERS FOLLOW.

Captain America: Civil War features not one, but two post-credit scenes. The mid-credit scene features Bucky voluntarily going back under the cryogenic freeze because of the events that happened in the movie and the fact he’s still capable of being brainwashed.

The scene features Bucky, Cap and Black Panther, as Bucky is frozen at a location in Wakanda. Cap tells Black Panther if they know Winter Soldier is in Wakanda, they will come for him. Black Panther says let them, as the camera pans revealing Wakanda and a Black Panther statue.

Here is what Kevin Feige offered to Cinema Blend about the Captain America: Civil War mid-credit scene:

That was always sort of the idea for the end of the movie, and as the movie was being developed, it felt like it would be additionally cool to have that happen in Wakanda – a super advanced place. They’ve got something that he could go in. And also, it speaks to Panther’s arc. The person that he was out to kill early in the movie, he’s now nobly helping. And then, of course, that led organically to a cool moment, where Cap can go, ‘Thanks for doing this, but they’re going to come get you.’

“Captain America: Civil War” is now in theaters directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Synopsis:

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Captain America: Civil War Trails Batman Vs. Superman For Thursday Advance Screenings

Round 1 goes to Batman Vs. Superman.

Captain America: Civil War opened last night with advanced screenings and brought in $25 million domestically, which is less than the $27.7 million Batman Vs. Superman did for its own Thursday night screening and less than last year’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which did $27.6 million.

Civil War is still expected to have a hefty opening weekend, close to or even surpassing $200 million, with some estimates stating $188 million.

My thoughts:

I saw the movie last night and honestly felt it was “okay.” It didn’t blow me away, though the airport scene was pretty solid. Similar to Batman Vs. Superman, I felt the story was a bit lacking (and felt the Civil War comic book was a lot better). It was pretty much a “popcorn” movie, not that there is anything wrong with that of course. I’ll also add Disney released way too much footage online, which is a reason – similar to Avengers 2 – that Civil War may come off as underwhelming for some. I also felt some of the camera work was off in certain places (some fight/action scenes seemed too fast and CGI wasn’t that good).

“Captain America: Civil War” is now in theaters directed by Anthony and Joe Russo starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle, Emily VanCamp, William Hurt, Martin Freeman and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

Ant-Man Writer To Direct Mark Waid’s Irredeemable

It’s announced Mark Waid and Peter Krause’s “Superman-gone-bad” story, Irredeemable, from BOOM! Studios is getting adapted into a feature film by Fox Studios.

Deadline reports Ant-Man writer and Oscar award winner Adam McCay is attached to direct the Irredeemable movie with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters writer-director Tommy Wirkola writing the script.

BOOM! Studios’ Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are producing with Gary Sanchez’s McKay and Kevin Messick. Adam Yoelin is co-producer for BOOM!

I’ve read every issue of Irredeemable, which is a great read. The series kicked off back in 2009 featuring The Plutonian, who is basically a Superman gone bad — really bad! I wouldn’t be surprised if Irredeemable gets an R-rating. I’ve been wondering if Hollywood was ever going to get to another Superman-type of movie. I thought Mark Millar’s Superior might be the first, but it doesn’t appear to be so.

Congrats to BOOM!, Waid and Krause.

You can order the Irredeemable graphic novel through Amazon. Here’s the description:

When the Plutonian, the world’s greatest superhero, snaps and turns into the world’s greatest villain, only his former teammates have a chance at stopping his rampage. But while on the run from the world’s most powerful and angry being, will these former teammates discover his secrets in time? How did he come to this? What became of the hope and promise once inside him? What happens to the world when its savior betrays it? What makes a hero irredeemable? An apocalyptic superhero tale by the author of Empire and multiple Eisner Award winner Kingdom Come!

Mark Waid is one of comics’ favorite storytellers, having amassed a long list of critically acclaimed hits in his 20-year career and writing such iconic characters as Superman, Captain America, Batman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. Waid earned a legion of fans because his stories tended to ground seemingly infallible heroes, and in titles like DC’s Kingdom Come, Gorilla Comics’ Empire, and BOOM! Studios’ own Irredeemable, he showed the other side of what it’s like to wear the capes and tights. We are proud to present Waid’s award-nominated Irredeemable in a new collection of oversized, deluxe hardcovers for existing and new fans to enjoy!

First Look At Power Rangers Movie Suits

Check out a first look at the new Power Rangers movie costumes below which is described as “translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies.”

“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” director Dean Israelite told EW.com. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

“It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume,” production designer Andrew Menzies said. “Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

“It’s the coolest costume ever,” Becky G, the Yellow Ranger, added. “I’m gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.”

“Power Rangers” has a March 24, 2017 release starring Becky G as Trini, the Yellow Ranger; RJ Cyler as Billy, the Blue Ranger; Naomi Scott as Kimberly, the Pink Ranger; Ludi Lin as Zack, the Black Ranger; Dacre Montgomery as Jason, the Red Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks stars as the villain, Rita Repulsa.

Synopsis:
