Back to the Future Writer Thinks Doctor Strange Movie Will Be Horrible

Marvel Studios has found themselves in the hot seat due to the Doctor Strange casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One and the change in the character’s ethnicity and origin (so as not to tick off the Chinese).

Now we hear from the writer of Back To The Future, who also happened to pen a Doctor Strange screenplay in the ’80s and is described as a “huge fan” of the character.

Bob Gale told Movie Pilot,”You’ve got the Ancient One as Tilda Swinton. Give me a break! Really? I mean, it’s stupid. You know?”

Obviously, Gale isn’t a fan of the gender-swapping and white-washing of the character, and when asked if he is excited for the Doctor Strange movie, replied with, “No.”

The article further notes that Gale doesn’t think Marvel Studios will be able to adapt the right vision for Doctor Strange on the big screen, at least as how Gale envisions the character, which basically sounds like the comic book version.

It’s further noted the main reason that Bob Gale doesn’t want to see Doctor Strange is because he didn’t think too highly of the first trailer.

“Doctor Strange” has a November 4, 2016 release also starring Chiwetel Ejiofor,  Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Benedict Wong and Mads Mikkelsen.

Synopsis:

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.

Clancy Brown Wants To Play Sean Connery’s Ramirez In Highlander Reboot

Clancy Brown, who plays Blackhand in this month’s release of Warcraft, chatted with Total Film magazine where the topic of Highlander was brought up in the article.

Brown played the iconic bad guy Kurgan in the 1986 classic, and now says he wants to play the part of Ramirez in the Highlander reboot.

“I remember they tried to make Highlander into a franchise, but the producers f—ed up; they were knuckleheads,” Brown said. “I think the reboot is going to be terrific. If they want to give me a cameo, I’ll play Sean Connery’s part, that’d be great!”

Clancy Brown also talked about the fighting in the movie.

“We had some great fights on Highlander. I made great friends with Bob Anderson, the sword master on that, and he was the greatest guy. I was 25, he showed me how to be a gentleman. I didn’t really take,” Brown joked.

Clancy Brown also commented on that well known Kurgan line, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away.”

“Yeah, that’s from Neil Young, but I was listening to Def Leppard at the time and that was on my soundtrack for Highlander… It is better to burn out than to fade away, but as long you can burn it for long… I’ve been able to burn it for a long time and I’m not anxious to fade away just yet. My last one, I’ll burn out, don’t you worry. I’ll go out with a bang.”

Regarding the Highlander reboot, The Huntsman: Winter War‘s Cedric Nicolas-Troyan has been working on it for a while and is on board to direct. Dave Bautista has been rumored to play the villain.

Warcraft has a June 10, 2016 release.

Update: Following our article, Deadline has since corrected themselves with note Avengers 3 is currently untitled.

With the news that Brie Larson is in talks to play Captain Marvel, comes a tidbit that the Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 movie may have been renamed to Avengers 3.

In Deadline‘s report about Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, they make mention that the character may first appear in a different Marvel franchise “possibly Avengers 3 (formerly Avengers: Infinity War Part One).”

The report also states Captain Marvel may appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Regarding the reason for the change to Avengers 3, we can speculate it’s for branding and marketing purposes, and it might even signity the first Infinity War movie is set more on Earth.

Captain America: Civil War Concept Art Features Bryan Cranston

New Captain America: Civil War concept art has surfaced from the Art of the Movie book which features a character that looks a lot like Bryan Cranston.

The book describes the scene as featuring Tony Stark and General Thaddeus Ross confronting the team to deliver the Sokovia Accords, but it’s pretty obvious the General Ross in the image doesn’t resemble William Hurt.

As noted by the eagle-eyed fans on Reddit, it’s possible William Hurt may have not been signed on to the movie when the art was created, so they used a fill in (or the script didn’t feature Ross at that point).

It should probably also be noted the art “resembles” Cranston.

James Gunn Teases Beta Ray Bill For Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

Will we see Beta Ray Bill in Guardians of the Galaxy 2?!

If James Gunn’s recent Facebook post is anything to go by, it could be possible.

Gunn took to Facebook to post an image of himself holding Mjolnir — the magical hammer of Thor.

Gunn has said numerous times that no Avengers will be appearing in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, so that leaves the mighty Beta Ray Bill as the only option.

It was also thought a Beta Ray Bill Easter Egg was a part of the Collector’s collection in Guardians of the Galaxy, but Gunn previously shot that down.

Beta Ray Bill would be pretty awesome for the MCU, and you have to admit, would probably fit in with the Guardians of the Galaxy pretty well.

If you haven’t read it yet, I suggest picking up a copy of the Stormbreaker: The Saga Of Beta Ray Bill trade. It’s pretty awesome!

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has a May 5, 2017 release starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. New cast members include Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.

Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4 Details Become Known

Following the release of the Spider-Man 4 art, the artist who worked on the storyboards has offered new details.

io9 caught up with artist Jeffrey Henderson who offered the following about Sam Raimi’s cancelled Spider-Man 4:

Bruce Campbell would have been in Spider-Man 4 in a cameo role as Mysterio that would have been a part of the beginning of the film featuring “a montage of C and D- list villains that we knew would never be used as main antagonists: Mysterio, the Shocker, the Prowler, the old school-onesie-wearing version of the Rhino, maybe even the Stilt Man, etc.”

Vulture would have been the main villain: “The thing we kept coming back to was that, as a character, everyone was going to dismiss the Vulture as just an old guy in a silly green suit,” Henderson said. “So we wanted to go the opposite way and really make him the most fearsome and formidable adversary that Spider-Man had faced in the series.”

You can check out the Spider-Man 4 art up at Henderson’s site.

As a bonus, here is video featuring Toby Maguire talking about Spider-Man 4 days before it got cancelled:

The Flash Movie Gets New Director

Following Seth Grahame-Smith parting The Flash movie over reported creative differences, now Warner Bros. has brought on newcomer Rick Famuyiwa to helm the Ezra Miller speedster flick.

Rick Famuyiwa recently directed the Sundance pic Dope, about a young geek trying to survive in a tough Los Angeles neighborhood, and Confirmation, the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas HBO drama.

It’s noted WB is still using Seth Grahame-Smith’s version of The Flash script which is based on a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The Flash has a March 16, 2018 release.

Ezra Miller recently had a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman and will be featured in Justice League and WB’s Fantastic Beasts.

Bryan Singer Suggests Mystique X-Men Spinoff Movie

Anybody up for a Mystique X-Men spinoff movie?

X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer recently appeared on an Empire Online podcast and suggested he thinks it’s a good idea.

“I think [Mystique’s] right for [a solo movie], whether it’s Jennifer or not,” Singer said. “[Mystique] as this different view of the world. Xavier can get into Cerebro and look at the world but he’d rather just teach classes and see the beauty of mutants and humans co-existing in his mansion in Westchester. Along comes Raven with a reality check on the state of the world. It opens up a lot of avenues.”

Mystique has appeared in six X-Men movies to date, with Rebecca Romijn first playing the character. Though Lawrence happens to be a more popular actor, I would have to say a majority of fans prefer the Rebecca Romijn version, which is more of a villain, similar to the comics.

The Jennifer Lawrence Mystique has become too much of a hero, at least in my opinion, and was a pretty weak character overall in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Honestly, I would much rather prefer a Psylocke spinoff movie or even Quicksilver.

Ghostbusters Reboot Producer May Let Fans See Movie For Free

Good news for Ghostbusters fans everywhere — the producer on the movie may let you go see the movie for free.

So if you are on the fence about seeing it, or even loathe the idea of Hollywood remaking another classic, no worries as you won’t have to drop a dime to go see the movie.

Actually, someone else might pay for you to go see it.

Ghostbusters reboot producer Judd Apatow recently said in an interview that he equates the Ghostbusters reboot haters with the same people that support Donald Trump. So from that we can assume he is either a Hillary Clinton supporter or a Bernie Sanders supporter. That means free movies for all, and that he doesn’t want you to pay.

“I would assume there’s a very large crossover of people who are doubtful Ghostbusters will be great and people excited about the Donald Trump candidacy,” Apatow told Uproxx. “I would assume they are the exact same people. That movie is made by the great Paul Feig and stars the funniest people on Earth, so I couldn’t be more excited. I think people have paid too much attention to just some angry trolls.”

“And it will be judged on its own greatness,” he continued. “I don’t think anything really matters the way you think it does. The movie comes out, and it will be great, and people will just be happy to have it. It’s not like anybody really cares about a couple of idiots who hold onto the idea that things never evolve.”

Marvel’s Mark Ruffalo also insinutated fans may get to see Thor 3 free as well.

We also wondering if Apatow is going to give his cut from Ghostbusters away. Are you Judd?

At least we don’t have to pay to go see Ghostbusters now.

Wonder Woman Movie Is A Fresh Approach To Ass-Kicking

The latest issue of Total Film magazine features an article about Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins.

Gal Gadot talks what the movie is about, with the article noting “Diana (as she is initially known) goes from a timeless isle to trenchwarfare in the 20th century.”

“This is the character’s origin story. She’s not American – she comes from Themyscira, where she’s raised by her mother [Connie Nielsen’s Queen Hippolyta] and all the other Amazons,” Gadot offers. “She’s never seen a man in her entire life. This is the journey of her coming of age, of how she sees the world through different eyes.”

It’s also said the Wonder Woman movie “promises a unique mix of fantasy and historical reality,” and that it will also feature a “fresh approach to ass-kicking.”

“I feel like we’re not the first people to have female fighting going on, but I feel that something very successful has come together here that is fully feminine, but still incredibly strong and sexy,” director Patty Jenkins said as well as adding the Amazons have an ample skill-set, and are less about raw force than good, honest teamwork.

“Gal Gadot, really, truly is Wonder Woman. I’ve said so many times [on set], ‘Gal, in the worst-case scenario, just be yourself – because you really are so true to the sprirt of this character,” Jenkins said.

“Wonder Woman” has a June 2, 2017 release directed by Patty Jenkins also starring Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis , Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, Lucy Davis and Connie Nielsen.

James Gunn Talks Chance of A Nova Movie; GOTG 2 Might Be At SDCC

In between shoots, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 director James Gunn took part in another live Facebook Q&A.

Worth a mention is that toward the end of the video, Gunn said a Nova movie could happen.

“I think there is always a chance of a Nova movie,” Gunn said. “I don’t think it’s something I would do. But it’s possible.”

A Richard Rider Nova movie makes perfect sense for the MCU as it was the sister title to the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book that inspired Gunn’s movie, and both were written by the cosmic duo, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. Nova still has a hard core fan base that supports anything Richard Rider — even the Richard Rider Nova Marvel Legends Guardians of the Galaxy movie action figure sold better than all the other Guardians characters, and Nova wasn’t even in movie.

–>SIGN THE BRING RICHARD RIDER NOVA TO THE MCU PETITION

Fans have also been wondering if Marvel Studios will be appearing at this Summer’s San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios skipped out on it last year, but in the video below, Gunn says he would love to come to Comic-Con.

“Am I going to San Diego Comic-Con?! That’s a good question!” Gunn teased. “You guys want me to go to San Diego Comic-Con? You’ll have to see! I would like to go. That would be amazing, wouldn’t it? I would like to come and see you all at San Diego Comic-Con and bring some friends along. That would be awful fun. That would be awful fun. I would really love to do that.”

Gunn also apologized if his recent Captain America comments upset any of the fans. He says his comments were meant to be a joke, but apologized if they came off the wrong way.

Gunn also says no Avengers characters in Guardians of the Galaxy 2; mentioned an emotional scene featuring Drax and Mantis in the movie, and no — we won’t be seeing Drax do a Bautista Power Bomb!
