I think we just found out why Josh Brolin turned down playing Green Lantern, and it’s because he is starring as the villain in The Running Man reboot opposite Glen Powell.
Via Deadline, Brolin is in final negotiations for a role in The Running Man, which is being directed by Edgar Wright, and is based on the novel by Stephen King.
It’s said while details on Brolin’s role is unknown, their sources say he will play “the antagonist behind the violent reality show.”
We can guess that Josh Brolin might be playing Damon Killian, who was played by Family Feud‘s Richard Dawson in the 1987 original that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I believe the original combined three roles from the books (executive producer, director and show host) into one role (Dawson), and since it’s said The Running Man reboot will be a more faithful adaptation, Josh Brolin could be playing executive producer Damon Killian and not the show’s host (my guess).
Glen Powell is set to star as Ben Richards, the role Schwarzenegger played in the original.
The Running Man reboot has a November 21, 2025 release date and also stars Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra. Wright is also co-writing the script with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Project X, 21 Jump Street) and will produce with his producing partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. George Linder will executive produce.
