Hunter Schafer Mystique Rumor Returns For Marvel’s X-Men Reboot

Hunter Schafer Mystique Rumor Returns For Marvel’s X-Men Reboot

Hunter Schafer is reportedly still in the mix to play Mystique in Marvel Studios’ X-Men reboot.

The latest rumor comes from MyTimeToShineH on X, who claims the Euphoria star is still being considered for the role.

Nothing has been confirmed by Marvel, so for now, keep this in the rumor category.

Hunter Schafer Mystique rumor returns

This isn’t the first time Schafer’s name has been connected to Marvel’s X-Men plans.

Back in February, the same scooper claimed Schafer was in talks to play Mystique in the MCU.

At the time, the rumor also included Elliot Page, who was said to have met with Marvel about an unknown role.

Mystique has already been a major live-action X-Men character, with Rebecca Romijn playing the role in the original Fox movies and Jennifer Lawrence taking over in the prequel films.

James Marsden Reveals Comic-Accurate Cyclops Costume For Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel’s X-Men reboot is still taking shape

The latest official update is that X-Men is still in development.

Director Jake Schreier recently confirmed Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are now working on a new draft of the movie. That appears to move the project away from the previous Michael Lesslie version and puts the script in new hands.

Marvel has not announced a cast, release date, or official lineup yet. However, Disney has several untitled Marvel movie dates set for 2028 and 2029, and one of them could end up being X-Men.

spider man brand new day sadie sink 3

Sadie Sink could be Marvel’s Jean Grey

The Schafer rumor also comes as Sadie Sink continues to be linked to Jean Grey.

Sink is officially part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Marvel and Sony have not revealed her role. Rumors claim she is playing Jean Grey and will later become a major part of Kevin Feige’s “new age of mutants” after Avengers: Secret Wars.

If true, Marvel may already be planting its mutant future before the actual X-Men reboot arrives. Jean Grey showing up in Spider-Man before the team movie would also be a big shift from the Fox era, where Wolverine quickly became the face of the franchise.

Sydney Sweeney Rumored For Emma Frost In Marvel’s X-Men

Other rumored X-Men names include Emma Frost, Rogue, and Beast

Schafer isn’t the only name making the rounds.

Sydney Sweeney has been rumored for Emma Frost, with MyTimeToShineHello previously claiming the actress is being eyed for the role in the MCU.

Other rumors have also linked Odessa A’zion to Rogue and Peter Claffey to Beast. That report came from The InSneider and has not been confirmed by Marvel.

Taken together, the rumors point to Marvel circling several major mutant characters, even if none of the casting has been made official.

Wolverine Rumors Surface Again: MCU X-Men May Start Without Logan After Secret Wars

Wolverine may not be part of the first X-Men lineup

One of the more interesting rumors is that Wolverine may not be part of the X-Men reboot at the start.

That would be a big change for general audiences, since Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine dominated the Fox movies for years. But it would line up with the comics, where Wolverine did not join the team until after the original X-Men had already been established.

Rumors have also claimed Marvel could keep Hugh Jackman involved separately after Secret Wars, while still preparing a new Wolverine for the long-term MCU. There has also been talk of a possible Hulk vs. Wolverine project, which would again connect to Logan’s comic book debut.
