Hellboy is getting rebooted starring Stranger Things‘ David Harbour as the titular character with Milla Jovovich playing the villain of the film, Nimue the Blood Queen.
While speaking with Collider, Harbour offers up some cool details about the flick.
On Milla Jovovich:
Sheâs super bad-ass! I watched some of her coverage, and I was like, âDamn, you know how to work a camera!â There are people that understand the camera, and Iâm not one of them. Man, she would do certain things and I would just be riveted and like, âWow, you are so sexy and exciting and powerful and crazy! I donât know how to do that. Thatâs amazing!â
On filming:
It was the hardest shoot Iâve ever done, primarily because there are just so many stunts in it. Itâs a very action-packed movie. Thereâs a lot of story, too, and a lot of big scenes, but thereâs a lot of action. Thereâs a lot of me running around, jumping and turning, and punching stuff. Itâs crazy! …Â but itâs also really thrilling âcause I get to carve out an entirely new mythos to this guy and I get to play on this big palette of witches and giants and demons.
On the Hellboy makeup:
In terms of the make-up, that was not that fun. I will say that I got to a weird place with it. I think we had 70-plus applications of make-up, which is a full mask. By day 30 or 35, Iâd wake up in the morning and look at myself in the mirror and everything was blurry. And then, Iâd sit in the chair and for an hour and a half or two hours, theyâd apply that face. Then, Iâd look back up in the mirror and be like, âOh, there I am!â I started to associate my own image with that other face. That was pretty cool!
On the Hellboy character:
I love that, as a character, heâs such a complicated guy…Â Heâs a half-demon/half-man whoâs lost in this world where he fights for human beings against monsters, so to speak, and yet he is part monster. Thereâs a very interesting thematic kernel about a guy whoâs lost and who doesnât understand who he is, and heâs really struggling with that.
Hellboy has a January 11, 2019 release date directed by Neil Marshall starring David Harbour as the titular character, Ian McShane as Professor Broom, Milla Jovivich as Nimue the Blood Queen, Sasha Lane plays Alice Monghan and Penelope Mitchell will play the role of Ganeida, an elder witch.
The Hellboy script is being worked on by Aron Coleite from a draft by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.
The film is said to be about Hellboy going to England, where he must defeat Nimue, Merlin’s consort and the Blood Queen. But their battle will bring about the end of the world, a fate he desperately tries to turn away.
