David Harbour Boards John Rambo Prequel as Major Trautman

David Harbour has joined the cast of John Rambo as Major Trautman, the commanding officer tied closely to Rambo’s story.

Variety confirmed the casting, with Harbour joining Noah Centineo, who is already set to star as the younger John Rambo in the prequel from director Jalmari Helander.

David Harbour Cast as Major Trautman

Harbour taking on Major Trautman is a big addition because the character is one of the most important figures in the Rambo franchise.

In the original films, Trautman was portrayed by Richard Crenna and served as Rambo’s commanding officer, mentor, and one of the few people who understood what he had been through. Harbour now steps into that role for the new origin movie.

John Rambo Is an Origin Story

John Rambo is being positioned as an origin story that goes back to the beginning of the character before the events of First Blood.

The film will explore the early life of the iconic soldier and the emotional scars that helped shape him into the hardened warrior fans came to know in the Stallone movies.

Director Jalmari Helander has already described the movie as a more grounded take on the character rather than a larger-than-life action spectacle.

When the project was first announced, Helander said the movie would be “stripped down, raw, and real,” with a survival-story angle focused on endurance, persistence, and lost innocence.

Stallone Is Also On Board

The project also has Sylvester Stallone officially involved as an executive producer.

Stallone confirmed in a social media video that he would serve as executive producer on the origin story, giving the prequel a direct link to the franchise’s longtime star.

No Release Date Yet

John Rambo is currently in production, but no release date has been announced so far.

Noah Centineo also stars in the upcoming Street Fighter movie.
