Elon Musk Cancels Netflix After Director Hamish Steele Mocks Charlie Kirk

Elon Musk calls out Netflix after LGBTQ+ animated film director Hamish Steele mocked the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Steele, creator of DeadEndia and Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park, posted on Bluesky calling Kirk a “nazi” and dismissing his death with profanity-laced comments. Screenshots of Steele’s post quickly spread online after Libs of TikTok highlighted it, pointing out Steele’s background and ties to Netflix.

The reaction was swift. Musk responded to the post directly, calling Steele “a groomer.”

When former Department of Energy nuclear scientist Matt Van Swol replied that he had just cancelled his Netflix subscription, Musk reposted with a simple response: “Same.”

The exchange has since gone viral, with users praising Musk for taking a stand and urging others to follow his lead by cancelling their Netflix subscriptions.

This is just the latest fallout from Kirk’s assassination, which has roiled Hollywood, gaming, and media circles as more companies and creators come under fire for their responses.

Backlash Spreads Across Entertainment and Media

As previously reported, the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination has sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood, gaming, and media. In comics, DC canceled Gretchen Felker-Martin’s Red Hood series following inflammatory remarks, while Stephen King was forced to apologize after posting false claims about Kirk before promoting his new movie. Hollywood names like Michael Keaton and Ava Raine have also come under fire for their comments, while Star Trek actor Tim Russ mocked Kirk’s death online.

The gaming industry has faced its own controversies. Bethesda, Epic Games, Blizzard, and SEGA all faced backlash after developers mocked Kirk’s murder, while Ghosts of Yōtei drew fan outrage for how its developers responded. In toys, Bandai Namco condemned AI-generated images linking their brand to the assassination.

On the political front, Rep. James Comer has called on tech CEOs to testify before Congress about online radicalization, while Elon Musk has repeatedly blasted figures like Destiny and Hasan Piker for what he described as “incitement to murder.”

Meanwhile, the late-night world was shaken as Jimmy Kimmel was pulled from ABC following his comments, only to see his ratings collapse after returning to air. Some fans even called for Ricky Gervais to replace him.
