Marvel and DC Comics writer Deniz Camp is facing backlash after posting “Missed again :(” on X following the shooting scare involving President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Camp did not mention Trump by name in the post, but the timing led users on X to accuse the writer of reacting to the suspect failing to hit the president. The post quickly spread after it was picked up by political accounts and comic book readers.
Trump is safe following the incident. The shooting disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, where Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other officials were in attendance. The suspect, identified by authorities as teacher and video game developer Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of Torrance, California, was taken into custody.
Deniz Camp Posts ‘Missed Again :(’
Camp posted on X, “Missed again :(” after the shooting scare.
The post drew immediate criticism from users who interpreted it as a reference to the attack on Trump.
One user replied, “Pretty sickening to see a writer I once admired wishing death upon the President of the United States.”
The same user added, “And to think I bought Absolute Martian Manhunter to support your work. Never again.”
Another user wrote, “Bro remember that one writer after Kirk. Delete quickly.”
The accusation spread further when Antonio Chavez posted, “DC Comics and Marvel Comics’ writer Deniz Camp is upset tonight’s assassination attempt on Trump was not successful.”

Camp Follows Up With Dart Joke
Camp later followed up with another post, writing, “I am so bad at darts!”
The post included an image of a dartboard with darts missing the target area. Critics took that as Camp mocking the backlash or trying to frame the first post as a joke about darts.
Camp then added in another post, “People are really passionate about darts.”
The follow-up posts did not calm the reaction. They fueled it, with users arguing the dart joke made the original post look even worse given the timing of the shooting scare.
Camp Writes For Marvel And DC
Camp is known to comic readers for his work at both Marvel and DC. He’s also written for Image Comics, including Assorted Crisis Events.
He has written Marvel’s The Ultimates and DC’s Absolute Martian Manhunter. That connection is what made the post spread through comic book circles, where readers began tagging Marvel and DC and questioning whether the companies would respond.
As of now, there does not appear to be any public statement from Marvel or DC about Camp’s posts.
Trump Is Safe After Dinner Shooting Scare
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting scare happened Saturday night in Washington, D.C.
Authorities said the suspect was armed with multiple weapons and charged toward the ballroom area before being stopped. Trump and Vance were unharmed. One Secret Service agent was struck but protected by a bullet-resistant vest, according to reports.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said the suspect is expected to face charges including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assaulting a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. Authorities have not announced a final motive.
