The Death of Robin Hood Gets New Trailer With Hugh Jackman Going Full Dark Legend

A new trailer for The Death of Robin Hood has been released, and it doubles down on the movie’s grim take on the legendary outlaw.

The A24 film from writer and director Michael Sarnoski stars Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe, and it is now set to hit theaters on June 19.

Hugh Jackman’s Robin Hood Rejects The Myth

The new footage paints Robin Hood as something far darker than the heroic folklore version fans are used to.

In the trailer, Jackman’s character says, “People speak of Robin Hood. Tell his stories. They’re all lies,” before adding that the lies were stories he told himself “so that fools would follow me into the dark.”

That fits with what has already been revealed about the movie. A24’s synopsis says Robin is grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder, while Sarnoski has described the character as someone forced to confront the legend built around him.

The Trailer Teases A Brutal, Bleak Story

The trailer also leans into the idea that this is not a swashbuckling adventure. Jackman says, “We were monsters,” and later warns, “This world cares only about blood. And blood is all I will give in return.”

The tone lines up with Sarnoski’s earlier comments that the film is more intense than expected and closer in feeling to a brutal war movie than a traditional Robin Hood action film.

Bill Skarsgård appears again as a version of Little John, while Jodie Comer remains one of the movie’s bigger mysteries.

Entertainment Weekly also previously reported that Comer is not playing Maid Marian, which already signaled this film is taking a different route with the mythology.
