Deadpool & Wolverine is getting a China release on the same date as the rest of the world, July 26, as announced by Marvel Studios on the Chinese social networks.
The flick will likely be censored, as Deadpool 2 had a China release, but it was the PG-13 Once Upon a Deadpool version.
Once Upon a Deadpool brought in over $42 million in China; the first one released in 2016 didn’t get released in the Middle Kingdom.
Insiders fill in THR that no cuts will be made to Deadpool & Wolverine in China that alter “the integrity of the storytelling” or the “Deadpool spirit” (so that confirms a censored version as Deadpool & Wolverine has been rated R for “strong bloody violence and language throughout, gore, and sexual references”).
Marvel also announced Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy will be visiting Shanghai on July 2 as part of their press tour.
How well the film does in China remains to be seen, but Marvel used to be huge there; however, similar to the rest of the world, the MCU has taken a downturn.
The Marvels grossed $15M in China while Captain Marvel grossed $154M; Quantumania grossed $39M; Guardians of the Galaxy 3 grossed $86.9M; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever grossed $15.5M.
Avengers: Endgame happened to gross $632M in China, and Infinity War brought in $359M.
