Jesse Hutch Wants Batman Or Wolverine Role After Almost Playing Superman

Jesse Hutch says he once came close to playing Superman, and now he’s throwing his name out there for Batman or Wolverine.

The actor revealed he screen tested for Superman Returns back in 2005, sharing old audition footage of himself as both Clark Kent and Superman. Brandon Routh went on to land the role in the Bryan Singer-directed movie, but Hutch says it was down to only a couple of actors.

Now Hutch is saying that while the Superman ship has sailed, he’s ready if DC or Marvel comes calling.

Jesse Hutch Wants Batman Or Wolverine

In his post, Hutch said he screen tested for Superman Returns and explained what that meant.

“I screen tested for the role of SUPERMAN,” Hutch wrote. “That means it was down to a couple dudes.”

Hutch then added a new hook for the present day.

“Some boats have sailed, but I hear they might be looking for a new BATMAN and WOLVERINE. Call me. I’m in.”

If James Gunn’s The Brave and the Bold happens, DC Studios will need a new Batman for the DCU. Robert Pattinson’s Batman exists in Matt Reeves’ separate Elseworlds universe, while the DCU Batman has yet to be cast.

Marvel will also need a new Wolverine at some point. Hugh Jackman returned for Deadpool & Wolverine, but the MCU will eventually reboot the X-Men, meaning Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios will need another actor to take over the claws.

Hutch is known for When Hope Calls, Crossroad Springs, Blue Ridge: The Series, Homestead: The Series, and Have We Met This Christmas. He also has a DC connection, having played Agent Russell Tavaroff in The CW’s Batwoman.

Jesse Hutch Screen Tested For Superman Returns

Before mentioning Batman and Wolverine, Hutch revealed he came close to playing Superman.

In the video, Hutch says a screen test means an actor is “really, really, really, really close,” adding it usually means the role is down to only a couple of people.

Hutch then revealed the role.

“In this case, I auditioned for Superman in 2005 for Superman Returns,” he says. “And I was that close.”

He also said he had to speak with Bryan Singer by phone before filming the audition.

“I had to call Bryan Singer on the phone,” Hutch says, explaining Singer “led me through what he needed.”

Hutch also wrote that he hadn’t heard anything about the audition for over six months and thought Matt Damon had booked the role.

“In fact, I heard Matt Damon booked it,” Hutch wrote, tagging Damon and asking, “is that true?”

The role ultimately went to Brandon Routh, who played Superman and Clark Kent in the 2006 movie.
