DCU: Clayface Movie Said To Still Be Happening

It’s claimed that a Clayface movie known to be pitched to James Gunn is still happening and that it could be a part of the DCU.

Recently also saw the big news that Alan Tudyk is going to voice Clayface in Gunn’s Creature Commandos animated series.

Gunn has previously confirmed the DCU voice actors will play their respective live-action counterparts. So if a Clayface live-action movie is going to happen in the DCU, Alan Tudyk could be playing the character.

Update: Clayface movie is underway with Matt Reeves producing.

What does the Clayface rumor say?

Scooper Daniel RPK is stating that DC Studios is moving forward with a Clayface movie and that the script is currently being written.

Another X user claiming to have said the same last year, added, “We reported on this last year actually. The script is finished and was written by Mike Flanagan.”

The X account continued, “Expect this to be one of the next films after Supergirl. It’s aiming to shoot in Spring last I heard.”

Clayface also happens to be rumored for Matt Reeves’ Batman: Part II. However, according to the X user, the Clayface movie will likely be DCU.

“Everyone seems to be asking this and I’m not quite sure but I believe it’s DCU,” said the account.

Mike Flanagan pitched Clayface

Mike Flanagan is a director known for The Midnight Club and Midnight Mass TV series, The Shining sequel Doctor SleepThe Haunting Of Hill HouseGerald’s Game, Ouija: Origin of Evil, andOculus — an obvious interest in horror. Flanagan actually previously confirmed he pitched a Clayface flick.

“Re: CLAYFACE – the news today is entirely speculative. When or if something like that ever becomes real, I promise I’ll tell you guys. :),” he tweeted back in March of 2023.

A tweet from 2021 also sees Flanagan saying he is interested in Clayface.

“Well I’ve wanted to do a Superman movie since I was a kid, but I would also be really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a
horror/thriller/tragedy,” he said at the time.

Gunn has made it clear that no DCU project is moving forward without an approved script and that it has to be good, so Clayface won’t be happening until it gets the approval.

Which Clayface?

We can also question which version DC will be going with: Most fans know Clayface as the shape-shifting blob of a monster, but the original version was actually Basil Karlo, a B-list actor who began a life of crime using the identity of a villain that he had portrayed in a horror film. There are also a couple of other versions, which all have some sort of shape-shifting ability.

Gunn’s DCU Phase 1 also happens to be called “Gods & Monsters,” so Clayface would fit.
