DC Reveals Milly Alcock Supergirl Variant Cover For New Comic

DC is keeping the push behind Kara Zor-El going as part of its “Summer of Supergirl” rollout, and now the publisher has announced a new one-shot special that also includes a Supergirl movie variant cover tied to Milly Alcock’s upcoming film.

The newly announced Summer of Supergirl Special #1 arrives June 24 and continues the bigger publishing initiative DC recently kicked off, which lines up with the character’s return to the spotlight ahead of the new movie.

This also follows DC putting Supergirl front and center for Superman Day and the broader “Summer of Supergirl” campaign, which made it clear the publisher is looking to capitalize on the growing attention around the character.

DC Announces Summer Of Supergirl Special #1

According to DC, the new 48-page anthology one-shot will feature three stories celebrating Supergirl’s place across the DC Universe.

The lead story comes from Sophie Campbell and Belén Ortega and pits Supergirl against Lobo in Midvale. DC also confirmed two additional backup stories, one from Mark Waid and Cian Tormey and another from Gail Simone and Emma Kubert.

DC says the special is meant to spotlight Kara “as she resumes her rightful place as the Heir to El,” which continues the messaging the company has been using throughout this latest Supergirl push.

Milly Alcock Movie Variant Cover Included

One of the bigger takeaways is that Summer of Supergirl Special #1 will feature a Supergirl movie variant cover by Mahmud Asrar.

That’s the movie tie-in angle fans will notice right away, as it connects the comics push directly to the new Supergirl film starring Milly Alcock.

DC didn’t reveal more movie details in the announcement, but using a film-themed variant cover makes it obvious the publisher wants to keep building momentum between the comics and the big-screen version of Kara.

Summer Of Supergirl Push Keeps Expanding

The one-shot is only part of the larger publishing lineup DC has planned.

The publisher says the Summer of Supergirl banner also includes Supergirl: Survive, facsimile editions of Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23 and Lobo #1, the oversized artbook DC W.I.P.: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, and additional Supergirl-themed variant covers across DC’s line.

So this is clearly more than a one-off comic announcement. DC is turning Supergirl into one of its bigger publishing focuses this summer, which also fits with the rising profile of the character thanks to the movie.

Supergirl Gets A Bigger DC Spotlight

Between the one-shot special, the expanding lineup of related books, and the Milly Alcock movie variant cover, DC is making sure Supergirl stays in the spotlight through summer 2026.

It also adds to the sense that DC sees Kara as a major piece of the brand moving forward, both in comics and on film.

Summer of Supergirl Special #1 releases June 24 for $5.99, with card stock variants priced at $6.99.
