We have to guess that Connie Nielsen never watched WW84 as she comes out and says she thinks it’s crazy Wonder Woman 3 never happened and that she doesn’t understand why.
Jokes aside, Nielsen, who played Queen Hippolyta in the DCEU for Patty Jenkins and Zack Snyder, is left scratching her head by the decision to scrap Wonder Woman 3.
“I think it’s crazy. I mean, frankly, I don’t understand it,” she told Den of Geek. “[Wonder Woman] made $800 million just in the movie theaters, and it has an enormous and passionate, passionate fan base. These are spectacular films, and there’s just no reason I can understand whatsoever for not investing in that. If I were a business person, I would say that’s money on the table. It’s right there. Plus every time we’ve done it, [it was] with budgets that were way smaller than any of the other DC budgets.”
Worth a mention is that Wonder Woman 1984 bombed in movie theaters and reportedly it also bombed when it was released simultaneously on HBO Max.
She continued, “It’s a pity. I really hope that they change their minds, and that they realize this is crazy. This is a billion dollars that is lying on the table. Not claiming those fans and making them happy is something I just don’t really understand at all.”
What happened with Wonder Woman?
Nielsen is right. The first Wonder Woman movie was loved by a lot of critics and fans. The Rotten Tomatoes scores are 93% from critics and 83% from the fans. However, the sequel not so much: 58% and 73%.
Zack Snyder booted from Wonder Woman 1984
Rumors also offer that Zack Snyder was booted from being involved with WW84. For the first Wonder Woman, Zack came up with the story and from what I have been told was even on set helping to direct the movie. That all changed with WW84. Reportedly, the powers that be removed Snyder from being involved which includes his stellar VFX and stunt teams (Geoff Johns, from what I’ve heard). From what I have been told, it wasn’t Jenkins, as Snyder and Jenkins are friends.
What happened with Gal Gadot?
While Gal Gadot also teased or said she was still playing Wonder Woman when the new DCU was announced, it’s my understanding Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav demanded to James Gunn that he reboot the DCU with cheaper talent — meaning Gal Gadot is out.
Fans have pointed out that Gal Gadot apparently unfollowed Gunn on social media.
Presently, Gunn has plans for that Paradise Lost TV series. However, nothing has been said about it as of late.
