A new rumor hits the net that The Flash director Andy Muschietti is on board a new Justice League movie as part of the James Gunn DCU.
The rumor comes from Jeff Sneider who says a source filled him in that a secret DCU project that is brewing is Andy Muschietti on a Justice League movie that adapts the popular “New Frontier” story by the late Darwyn Cook and that the villain will be The Centre, also known Dinosaur Island, a sentient island which is also the antagonist of the comic.
There actually have been rumors swirling for a while that Andy Muschietti is directing a Justice League movie when Walter Hamada was still in charge, and Gunn has also said Andy Muschietti will be sticking around the DCU after The Flash.
“We’re very close to Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the director and producer of The Flash. Andy’s going to be doing some more stuff for us,” said Gunn at the big announcement in January who also confirmed The Flash movie will reset things. “I will say here that Flash is probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
Regarding The Flash, insiders filled me in there is an alternate ending that will reveal the fate of Ezra Miller which leaves an out for him to return. We’ll find out which ending they choose next month when the flick debuts at CinemaCon.
Big things are expected for The Flash and even Tom Cruise loves it, and my insiders say it’s a masterpiece, so if the film goes on to be as big of a hit as everyone expects, maybe Andy Muschietti will be tacking the DCU’s new frontier in the form of a new Justice League movie.
What is Justice League: The New Frontier about and how does it fit with the DCU?
The Darwyn Cook cook story actually takes place in the 1950s so the movie would have to change things a bit, but what is interesting about the story is that it tells the story of a group of older heroes and new heroes where the “Age of the Superhero is in decline” and questions “But where are the heroes of tomorrow?”
Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman are said to be the Golden Age heroes, with Green Lantern, The Flash, and others the new Silver Age heroes.
So perhaps James Gunn will use a Justice League: The New Frontier movie with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman introducing and leading to additional DC heroes?
Or maybe it’s symbolic of the transition from the Zack Snyder DCEU to the James Gunn DCU? It’s rumored Zack Snyder is going to give James Gunn his DC blessing at SnyderCon with big news about his Rebel Moon shared universe.
What is the comic book about?
Here is the description of the comic book and the story was also adapted into an animated movie, so again, it’s likely if Gunn is doing something, it will be different but similar in tone:
“Mr. Cooke’s drawings are striking, and his plot makes good use of DC’s diverse characters.”—THE NEW YORK TIMES”Using a classic style, Cooke creates a classic of his own.”—THE ONION
