What is Elden Ring about?

Elden Ring is a dark fantasy action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco. Released in 2022, it was created by famed game director Hidetaka Miyazaki with worldbuilding contributions from author George R.R. Martin (Game of Thrones).

The story is set in the Lands Between, a vast, ruined world once governed by the power of the Elden Ring, a mysterious, divine force that maintained the natural order. After the ring is shattered and its fragments—called Great Runes—are claimed by demigods, the realm plunges into chaos and war.

You play as a Tarnished, a resurrected exile drawn back to the Lands Between to collect the fragments, challenge the corrupted demigods, and restore the Elden Ring to become the new Elden Lord.
