Legendary filmmaker Tim Burton isn’t happy with The Flash movie using his characters and might actually think the flick used artificial intelligence for the special effects.
The Flash features scenes with Tim Burton’s Batman of choice, Michael Keaton, as well as Nicolas Cage from Burton’s canceled Superman Lives movie.
In an interview with the BFI, it’s remarked that The Flash movie has a multiverse sequence featuring Nicolas Cage as Superman and that Superman Lives was only three weeks away from filming and questioned Burton if he has any regrets.
Tim Burton has no regrets about Superman Lives
About Superman Lives, Burton replied, “No, I don’t have regrets.”
“I will say this: when you work that long on a project and it doesn’t happen, it affects you for the rest of your life. Because you get passionate about things, and each thing is an unknown journey, and it wasn’t there yet. But it’s one of those experiences that never leaves you, a little bit,” he said.
What about The Flash?
While he didn’t specifically mention The Flash, Burton then brought up the use of artificial intelligence and said he is quietly revolting against the studios.
“But also it goes into another AI thing, and this is why I think I’m over it with the studio,” he explained. “They can take what you did, Batman or whatever, and culturally misappropriate it, or whatever you want to call it. Even though you’re a slave of Disney or Warner Brothers, they can do whatever they want. So in my latter years of life, I’m in quiet revolt against all this.”
Did The Flash use AI?
It’s actually unknown if The Flash used AI for its VFX, but that would explain things (Marvel did use AI for Secret Invasion).
However, it is known Nicolas Cage was on hand to film the Superman scenes and there is no question those scenes in The Flash, which also feature Christopher Reeve as Superman, Helen Slater as Supergirl, and Henry Cavill as Superman, look awful (I’ve also been told the intro with Keaton as a hermit was a redo).
A buddy of mine who lives in Hollywood spoke with VFX people who worked on The Flash and contrary to director Andy Muschietti claiming the look of the VFX are intentional, the VFX people said the CGI and special effects went unfinished, which is also evident by the behind-the-scenes practical effects looking better.
So as I have also been told Warner Bros. Discover is broke AF and that CEO David Zaslav has plans to sell, maybe a cost-cutting measure involved the use of AI for the unfinished special effects?
Regardless of whether The Flash used AI or not, we see Burton isn’t happy with the thought of the studios using artificial intelligence and potentially misappropriating his work.
There are now complaints about Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
The Flash bombed at the box office bringing in $268.5 million worldwide and lost money. The flick also marks the end of the Zack Snyder DCEU.
