This past Comic-Con saw a viral site and teasers released for Pacific Rim Uprising.
Now speaking with MTV, producer and star of the movie, John Boyega, offers and update.
That’s right, John Boyega doesn’t only star in Pacific Rim Uprising, but he is also on board as a producer. John Boyega tells the story of how he came to nab Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which the money from that he used to help finance Pacific Rim Uprising and join as producer. Boyega says he tried out for lead roles in both Kingsman and Maze Runner, but didn’t get the parts. Regarding the latter, John Boyega offers he stayed in Los Angeles on a friend’s couch thinking he locked the role, was broke and waiting for confirmation; however, he didn’t get the part, so he went back to the UK. Eventually he landed the lead role in Star Wars, and the rest they say is history.
Regarding Pacific Rim Uprising, John Boyega offers some information on his character, Jake Pentecost, which is the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first movie, talks about the return of the Kaiju and even offers he had a hand in giving the new Jaeger mechs an upgrade! Boyega says new footage is coming soon, and that they are finishing up with some special effects.
I play Jake Pentecost. He’s been a way in Pacific Rim one. He’s like the prodigal son that never came back. Now he’s given a chance and oppurtunity to join the PPDC and earn his right to be there. It’s not all that it seems. Obviousyly the breach was closed in Pacific Rim, but there are other ways of doing things [laughs] for these Kaiju. They are very, very intelligent. What do we do? Upgrades! Oh, yeah! Up! Grades! Some of which came from here [points to head]. So don’t worry nerds. Everything you wanted I made sure to inject in to this! It’s really cool. Some really cool stuff going down.
