Charlie Hunnam reveals he passed on playing Green Arrow for DC.
The actor happens to be starring in Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, so while promoting the upcoming release of the flick, it was mentioned to him that he has been a fan-favorite to play the character.
Hunnam was asked if talks ever happened and he answered not with Zack Snyder but suits at Warner Bros. wanted him to play the character.
“I never talked to Zack about it,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t remember who. It was some people in suits, who brought the idea to me and thought it would be terribly exciting for me to play Green Arrow and I did not share their enthusiasm.”
He added, “I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.’”

Not interested in superheroes
Back in 2017 while promoting the release of King Arthur, Charlie Hunnam actually said he would look into the character.
“You know, I’m not a comic book guy. I don’t know those comic books. I must look like him or something. I look like the guy in the comic book or something. People bring that up to me all the time. I have no idea what any of you are talking about. I’ll have to have a sniff about. Maybe I’ll do a bit of a google search tonight just to see who this Green [Arrow] chap is,” he said at the time.
Charlie Humman as Aquaman?
However, in an interview prior, he said he had no interest in superheroes.
“I didn’t grow up a comic book fan and I haven’t really seen any of those Marvel films or the Batman films,” Hunnam said. “It’s just not really my taste. I must confess I don’t really know who the Green Arrow is. It’s not part of my vision for my career or what I aspire to.”
I can also recall it said prior to the DCEU there was concept art floating around of Charlie Hunnam as Aquaman. The actor was super popular at the time with the Sons of Anarchy series so we see not only did a lot of fans cast them as their favorites but execs at WB, too.
Rebel Moon gets released on Netflix on Dec. 21.
