With the release of the new Rebel Moon video game on Netflix, Zack Snyder spoke to Variety and gave an update on the franchise’s future — and it’s not sounding promising.
Snyder Takes a Break From Rebel Moon
While fans might expect more Rebel Moon sequels or spin-offs, Snyder cast doubt on whether anything else is even happening, saying he’s taking a break from that world after the exhausting process of making both films back-to-back.

What did Zack Snyder say about Rebel Moon?
“I got sidetracked into this — not sidetracked, it’s all uptown problems, as they say — for Netflix, I’m working on an LAPD SWAT movie,” Snyder told Variety. “So I was like, OK, well, I’m gonna just sort of let that ‘Rebel Moon’ world boil for a minute, and I’m gonna go do this. And frankly, it was a very exhausting, long process doing the two movies together. So it was nice to have a bit of a break from it. I love it like crazy, but it’s nice to have a bit of a break.”

The Franchise’s Future Is Uncertain
Snyder didn’t confirm any concrete plans moving forward.
“There’s tons of stories. So, I mean, I think it’s literally, it’s endless. But, again, like I say, I’m waiting to see how we want to and in what way we would move forward, if at all,” he said.
The phrase “if at all” stands out, as it sounds like Snyder may be done with Rebel Moon. That would line up with what his co-writer recently said, confirming the franchise is effectively dead unless a miracle happens.
Snyder Moves On to New Netflix Projects
Meanwhile, Snyder is currently focused on his LAPD-SWAT action movie for Netflix and also has a UFC drama titled Brawler in development. No release date has been announced for either project.
