Zack Snyder’s ‘Army Of The Dead’ Canceled At Netflix: Is ‘Rebel Moon’ Next?

Plans for the continuation of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead franchise have been canceled at Netflix. The same could also happen for Rebel Moon.

Army of the Dead and its spinoff, Army of Thieves, were released on Netflix in 2021. There was supposed to be additional spinoffs including an animated series and more live-action films.

However, The Wrap reports Army of the Dead has been “quietly canceled”:

“Army of the Dead,” a movie the Snyders made for Netflix before “Rebel Moon,” had a similarly ambitious plan, with several sequels and spin-offs in the works (one, the prequel “Army of Thieves,” was actually released), along with an animated series. The animated series was quietly canceled, along with plans for subsequent films.

Zack Snyder and his producer wife, Deborah Snyder, confirmed the cancellation.

“We are very ambitious with everything,” Zack told The Wrap.

Deborah Snyder did add that Army of the Dead isn’t entirely dead as she told the site there will be a themed experience coming to the Six Flags theme parks this Halloween. “It’s going to be a really cool experience.”

Mixed reviews, viewership dropped

The two Army of the Dead movies have mixed reviews from the critics and the fans. The Army of the Dead Rotten Tomatoes Score from critics is at 67% while the Audience Score is at 75%. The Army of Thieves critics and audience score are both at 69%.

We can probably assume the reason Netflix canceled Army of the Dead is because it didn’t meet their viewership expectations.

When Army of the Dead was first released, it topped the charts and saw 913 million minutes viewed. However, when Army of Thieves was released five months later, it didn’t make the Nielsen top ten charts, and was watched for 456 million viewing minutes.

What about Rebel Moon?

Similarly, Rebel Moon also saw its viewership plummet.

The first released PG-13 Part 1 version saw 23.9 million views.

Part 2 had 21.4 million views. However, in its subsequent days of release the viewership suffered a massive drop.

The recently released Rebel Moon Director’s Cuts had less than 3.6M.

All four Rebel Moon films have also bombed with both the critics and fans.
