The Fantastic Four: First Steps has officially passed the $500M mark at the global box office, but the numbers tell a different story when it comes to Disney’s bottom line.
Box Office Update
As of day 39 in theaters, the film has grossed:
- Domestic (52.5%): $265,826,180
- International (47.5%): $240,500,000
- Worldwide: $506,326,180
On the MCU domestic charts, out of 36 movies released, Fantastic Four comes in at #22. However, it dips a bit in the worldwide gross to #26, sharing company with the other MCU flops including Quantumania, Shang-Chi, Captain America: Brave New World, Eternals, and Thunderbolts.
The Real Budget Problem
Reports peg Fantastic Four’s budget at $200M, but we’ve been told the number is much higher due to reshoots, ballooning closer to $350M. Adding marketing costs pushes the break-even point to around $875M, if that sky-high budget is indeed the case.
Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld put it bluntly on X: “$300 million with marketing, get outta here shill.”
At its current pace, Fantastic Four will fall well short of that mark, joining Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World as more losses for Kevin Feige.

The Captain America: Winter Soldier Comparison
Some desperate shills are also claiming Fantastic Four has topped Captain America: The Winter Soldier domestically. That’s not accurate. Winter Soldier was released 11 years ago.
Adjusted for inflation, its domestic total is $354,475,329.28 — far above Fantastic Four, and proves more people went to see Winter Soldier than FF.
Even without inflation, Winter Soldier’s worldwide take was $714,421,503, a number Fantastic Four won’t come close to reaching, so making any comparisons is simply a complete joke.

Digital Release Coming
As previously reported, the film is said to be hitting digital on September 27, with Blu-ray and 4K arriving on October 28. Disney clearly hopes home release sales will help soften the financial blow. The Disney+ release is expected in November.
But the bigger picture remains: Fantastic Four: First Steps is yet another MCU underperformer, and expectations for Avengers: Doomsday continue to fade.
