Andy Muschietti Again Rumored Off James Gunn’s DCU Batman

It’s again claimed that Andy Muschietti is no longer directing the DCU’s Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold, for James Gunn.

Rocha and Sneider Double Down

During a recent episode of their Hot Mic podcast, a viewer asked, “Hey, any word if Andy Muschietti is still directing DCU Batman?”

Rocha shot back, “I told you he is not doing it! Why don’t you listen?” He added, “I just can’t see him competing against Matt Reeves. Why not just incorporate the Reeves-verse? Two Batmans is a mistake.”

Sneider laughed and chimed in, “I don’t know what you’re talking about. This is surely not something John and I have been saying for two years.”

James Gunn Says Muschietti Is Still Attached

Despite the podcast comments, DC Studios co-head James Gunn has stated Andy Muschietti remains attached to direct The Brave and the Bold. Muschietti even attended the Superman premiere and was seen with Gunn’s producing partner and DC co-chief Peter Safran at the Emmys on Sunday night (Muschietti is also behind HBO’s IT and Welcome to Derry spinoff series).

However, Gunn has also previously hinted that he’s not happy with the current draft of the Brave and the Bold script. There’s still no official release date for the film, and it hasn’t entered pre-production.

DCU Uncertainty Grows

The future of Gunn’s DCU is also now in question. Warner Bros. Discovery may be sold off to a bigger player like Skydance, Paramount, Netflix, or Apple. That adds more uncertainty to Gunn’s reboot plans.

At the same time, Muschietti has moved on to other projects. He’s attached to direct Drift and a live-action adaptation of Attack on Titan, which suggests he’s filling his schedule with non-DCU work and that Brave and the Bold – if it happens – is a ways off.

Is Brave and the Bold Even Happening?

Technically, Muschietti might not be off Batman—but the movie might be. Without a firm script, production schedule, or release date, there’s growing speculation that The Brave and the Bold might never happen at all.
