Zack Snyder teases that his big four hour-cut of the Justice League movie is getting a theatrical release.
The film was released on HBO Max back in 2021 and is his version of the movie as he intended, which features Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League never got a theatrical release. According to my understanding, Warner Bros. had Snyder do the film to bolster their new HBO Max streaming service, which also saw WB release a bunch of movies on the service including Wonder Woman 1984. Well, all those releases didn’t do much for HBO Max, which is now been changed to Max. It’s thought the movies would have better performed theatrically.
Coming to the big screen
So here we are three years later, and Zack Snyder is basically confirming his Justice League for a theatrical release.
Snyder teased on the Vero app with an image of Ben Affleck as Batman, “Want to see ZSJL on the big screen… stay tuned for a date.”
Worth a mention is that the news comes ahead of Comic-Con later this month, so maybe we’ll get the official release date at the SDCC.
Recall how my DC insiders told me Zack Snyder could come back to DC if he wanted to. Lately has seen Snyder also state he wants to adapt and direct Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.
Zack Snyder back at DC?
It will be pretty wild if Snyder is back doing another DC movie.
Snyder also said he wants Ben Affleck back as his Batman for the role. Affleck has ran into more than one problem playing Batman. The latest was when James Gunn said he asked Affleck to be involved in the DCU. However, Affleck shut that down right away and said “absolutely not” and that he’s not interested. From what I am told that’s because the original ending of The Flash had Affleck spearheading a Batman Multiverse, but that was nixed by WBD CEO David Zaslav.
So while the DCEU didn’t work out and is over, we could get Snyder on his own separate DC project.
Years ago before Man of Steel, his Superman movie was supposed to be separate and not a part of Justice League, which would have been separate from Snyder’s stuff with its own version of Superman. Talk about full circle, eh?
