With James Gunn back on Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the rumors are starting to fly, which revolves around the High Evolutionary said to be a part of the film, possibly as the villain, in addition to Zac Efron playing Adam Warlock, Beta Ray Bill appearing in the film, Drax finding his daughter, and more.
Let’s dive in!
Beta Ray Bill For Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Earlier saw a batch of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 rumors mention that the High Evolutionary is responsible for the creation of Rocket Raccoon, with the latest rumor offering that none other than the fan favorite Korbinite Beta Ray Bill will be another of the High Evolutionary’s experiments and will meet Thor in the movie. Recall that during Thor: Ragnarok (pictured above), Beta Ray Bill’s face was on top of the tower, meaning that Beta Ray Bill is a former champion of the Grandmaster. What is also interesting is that the end of The Avengers: Endgame saw Thor seemingly join the Guardians where he kept the Stormbreaker ax. In the comics, Stormbreaker belongs to Beta Ray Bill (the graphic novel of the same name is awesome). Obviously, James Gunn will be going a different route than the comics – per the norm – but simply including anything from Beta Ray Bill would be pretty sweet.
Zac Efron as Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Regarding Zac Efron, it is again rumored that Efron is wanted to play Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy 3. No further details are known, but a previous rumor offered that Lucas Till was also up for the role. Regarding Zac Efron playing Adam Warlock, he might actually be able to pull it off as he as the “perfect” look required for Adam Warlock, and he was pretty good in the Ted Bundy movie, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. I’ve always thought Adam Warlock had a bit of an ego and was full himself, so Efron seems to fit (no offense, Zac). Adam was first introduced during Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with the cocoon scene.
Phyla and Moondragon for Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Another rumor floating around is that Quasar will be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. James Gunn actually teased Quasar a while ago, plus a version of Quasar was a part of the original 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy comic, so Gunn may be including Phyla-Vell. Let’s hope Gunn doesn’t go with the Quasar name for Phyla, as that belongs to the original Quasar Wendell Vaughn created by the late and great Mark Gruenwald. Following the Annihilation comics and with Phyla joining the Guardians of the Galaxy, fans (led by yours truly) petitioned Marvel Comics with the legendary Quasar cake to bring back Wendell Vaughn as Quasar. Marvel Comics Editor Bill Rosemann took a liking to myself and fellow cosmic fans and brought back Wendell Vaughn as Quasar who went on to team with Richard Rider Nova and star in Realm of Kings (which led to me creating this site, Cosmic Book News, to promote the Marvel Cosmic comics). It would actually be pretty wild if Gunn was going to introduce the Wendell Vaughn Quasar and Richard Rider Nova along with Phyla.
Quasar and Nova
Wendell Vaughn Quasar is one of my favorite characters, so let’s hope Gunn throws us cosmic fans a bone and uses the Phyla name if he decides to go that route. With Drax’s daughter possibly being alive and in the movie, it’s probably Moondragon. Fans of the comics know that Phyla and Moondragon are in a relationship together, so possibly Guardians of the Galaxy 3 could feature some of that. We should also probably bring up that Phyla is the artificially created offspring of Captain Mar-Vell in the comics, so it will be interesting to see if Gunn touches upon that or drops the “Vell” from Phyla, as the Captain Marvel movie changed things up a lot. Moondragon and Phyla (not Quasar) are in the current Guardians of the Galaxy comics from Donny Cates which is really good, as is Beta Ray Bill.
Regarding Gunn going with Wendell Vaughn Quasar and Richard Rider Nova in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is unknown, but The Avengers: Infinity War seemingly set up the origin for Nova, which is similar to the Annihilation event comic. Director Joe Russo recently said Gunn should handle Nova, so we’ll have to wait and see.
More Guardians of the Galaxy 3 rumors
Additional rumors reported earlier include that Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will see Star-Lord and Nebula become closer while they search for Gamora; that Rocket Racoon’s soul mate Lylla will be in the movie; and again that Drax finds out his daughter is still alive (in the comics she is known as Heather Douglas aka Moondragon).
The Beta Ray Bill, Zac Efron for Adam Warlock and Quasar rumors come from 4Chan, so bear that in mind, but 4Chan rumors for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 did prove legit.
James Gunn has also said Guardians of the Galaxy 3 will feature the last iteration of the team as we know them, so if any of the above rumors are true, possibly the third flick could be introducing characters to be a part of a new Guardians team.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has no release date, with an announcement expected this Summer, and it has been reported James Gunn will start filming in 2020 after he finishes DC’s The Suicide Squad.
